Matna Sikdang

맛나식당 Matna comes from matnada, 'to taste good' — the name simply means 'the Tasty Diner'.

Compiled from 22 blog posts read in fullSources →

Matna Sikdang is a braised-fish house on a residential lane at Dongnyuam-ro 41 in Seongsan, five to ten minutes' drive from Seongsan Ilchulbong. The menu is hairtail braise at 14,000 won a head, mackerel braise at 12,000 won and extra rice at 1,000 won; parties of two or more usually get both fish mixed on one platter, sized to the number of diners. It opens at 8:30 a.m. and closes around 2:30 p.m., so several writers put their names down early in the morning and came back later to eat. We read 30 posts dated 29 August to 21 October 2026; 23 record an actual meal, 6 are roundup lists by people who did not go, and 1 was about a nearby hotel and set aside.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Of 19 posts that mention waiting, 12 waited and 6 walked straight in. Recorded waits were 10 minutes four times, 20 minutes once and 30 minutes three times. Some signed up hours ahead: one writer arrived at 5:50 a.m. and was ninth on the list, one signed up at 7:10 and was told to come back at 9, another arrived at 8:30 and got a 9:50 slot. There is no remote queuing app — you give your party size and phone number to staff in person. The six who did not wait went on a Monday, a weekday morning or at 10:30 on a public holiday; one walked in at 12:20 on a Saturday and found a line had formed by the time they left.
  2. You order one portion per diner. Three posts describe being served by head count, one noting a wall sign asking customers to order according to the number in their party. Many said hairtail alone was not available; the house split reported was one hairtail and one mackerel for two, two and one for three, three and one for four. Some ordered and paid while still on the waiting list.
  3. Seating is a mix of floor tables and chairs. Five posts mention floor seating, two of them saying you take your shoes off; three mention back rooms, and one family of seven sat at a six-seat table in an inner room. Opinions on size split three to two: some found the place deeper and roomier than it looks, others said it is cramped and you sit elbow to elbow.
  4. Eight posts called it cheap and none called it expensive. One pair paid 26,000 won; six adults and a baby spent under 90,000 won. One writer said three people ate for 28,000 won, which does not square with the per-portion prices others list. The fish are not large — several said so while calling the price fair, and one found the portions on the small side.

  1. Five posts describe going with children. Parents wrapped rice in seaweed, soaked rice in the seaweed soup, or picked out mackerel flesh the sauce had not reached. One said there was no high chair, so the baby sat in a carrier strapped to an ordinary chair.

Parking

5 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park5 of 22 posts

There is no restaurant car park. All five posts that describe parking used the public lot across the road (Seongsan Goseong 1); one noted a sign by the door warning that parking in front of the restaurant is enforced. One writer paid 1,500 won for an hour, two said it was free on weekends and holidays. One suggested dropping a passenger off to claim a table while the driver parks.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

No post says what floor the restaurant is on — nobody wrote about it, which is not the same as there being nothing to say.

Nobody mentioned steps or a threshold at the entrance, or whether a wheelchair or pushchair gets in. Some seating is on the floor with shoes off.

None of the posts we read mention the toilet — where it is or whether it is separated by sex. We do not know.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 6 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-152 posts in one day
2026-10-132 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Heat is disputed: three posts said it is not spicy (milder than Shin Ramyun, one said), one said the chillies on top are properly hot, and one called it warming rather than hot. Three found the sauce sweet; one said it was neither salty nor sweet.
  • Service splits two to one: two posts found the person taking orders unfriendly, one said they were greeted warmly despite what reviews claim. One family found the food ordinary and not worth a long wait.
  • Eleven posts list opening hours, all copied from listings rather than observed: ten say 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., one says until 2 p.m., and every post that gives closing days names Wednesday and Sunday. Several say it shuts early when ingredients run out; one writer found it closed and returned the next morning.
  • Several posts give the same phone number, 064-782-4771. Listings copied into posts say reservations are not taken by phone — you sign up in person on the day. One writer did call on a weekday afternoon and was told to come over.
  • No post describes getting there by bus. One traveller did the whole trip on public transport but did not say how they reached this restaurant, another took a taxi, and most drove and used the public car park.
