Gogung Bomal Son-kalguksu

고궁보말손칼국수 Bomal is the Jeju word for small sea snails (top shells) and son-kalguksu is hand-cut noodle soup; Gogung appears to be the name of the guesthouse building it is run from.

Compiled from 18 blog posts read in fullSources →

A sea-snail (bomal) restaurant on the ground floor of a building at 54 Seongsanjungang-ro, Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo, a short walk from Seongsan Ilchulbong. The signature is hand-cut noodle soup in a broth of ground sea snails; posts from September and October 2026 put it at 12,000 won, with porridge at 11,000 won and the snail pancake and sea-urchin seaweed soup at 15,000 won. Of the 21 posts that record a meal, 20 ordered the noodle soup and 7 each had the porridge and the pancake. Side dishes are self-serve refills, and posts keep mentioning the 7 a.m. opening, so it is often written up as a breakfast stop after the sunrise climb. We read 30 posts dated 16 August to 22 October 2026; 21 record a meal, and 6 of those disclose sponsorship or payment.

Rows without a count: 2 of 4 posts.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Side dishes are self-serve. Nine posts said they topped up from the self-service counter; one went back for more kkakdugi because it was so refreshing. Several list kkakdugi, kimchi and pickled radish as the default set, and one December 2023 visit noted water was self-serve too.
  2. Eight posts called the portions generous. A pair who ordered noodle soup, sea-urchin soup and the snail pancake for 42,000 won said it felt like food for three or four. Four of the eight, though, are disclosed sponsored posts.

Posts saying you can park8 of 18 posts

Eight posts said they parked right in front. One from 1 September 2026 describes a small free lot inside the villa building. The only figure for capacity, about three cars, comes from a post copying Kakao Map; nobody counted the spaces themselves.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 2 (of 18 posts read)

Two posts place it on the ground floor: one in October 2026 says it sits on the first floor of a guesthouse, another in September says it is tucked inside the ground floor of a villa building. No post mentions a basement or stairs.

We don't know whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. Nobody wrote about it.

We don't know whether the toilet is inside or separated by gender; no post mentions it.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 9 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-08-212 posts in one day
2026-08-163 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Of the eight posts praising friendly service, six disclose payment and the other two share the same late-August 2026 wording. None of the self-paid posts comment on service; a December 2023 visit only noted the owner was cooking and serving alone.
  • Similar posts cluster between 16 and 28 August 2026: five carry an identical string of five hashtags (three of them disclose payment), and on 16 August three bloggers published posts with the same section order and the same metaphors. We did not count those three or the posts that only describe the place without a meal.
  • Only one post dissented on taste: a December 2023 visit found it bland, with only a few snails, like ordinary kalguksu. Every other post recording a meal liked it.
  • Only one post mentions waiting: on 1 September 2026, a queue had formed by the time they left. The others say nothing, which means nobody wrote about it, not that there is never a line.
  • Opening hours disagree. All agree on a 7 a.m. start, but two posts from September and October 2026 say it closes at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays and 8 p.m. otherwise, one from 28 August says 8:30 p.m. daily (last order 8), and another from 21 October says 8 p.m. daily (last order 7:30). All are copied from map listings. Three posts say it has no regular day off.
  • Two phone numbers appear: 0507-1419-8199 in eleven posts and 064-782-8199 in two. Nobody wrote about whether reservations are taken.
  • Prices come from five posts in September and October 2026 and did not change across them. Five posts said it was not expensive, three of them sponsored. One pair paid 42,000 won for three dishes.
  • We don't know how to get there by bus. One post says it is under five minutes' walk from Seongsan Ilchulbong, but no one wrote about arriving by public transport; most came by car.
