Jungmun Godeungeo Ssambap

중문고등어쌈밥 Jungmun is the resort district of Seogwipo; godeungeo ssambap is mackerel served with rice and leafy greens to wrap it in.

Compiled from 26 blog posts read in fullSources →

A large Korean restaurant on Iljuseo-ro in Sangye-dong, Seogwipo, just west of the Jungmun resort area. The signature is mackerel braised under whole leaves of aged kimchi, with an abalone stone-pot rice for each diner, at 18,000 won a head (36,000 for two) by many accounts. You wrap the fish and kimchi in greens or laver and finish with scorched-rice tea from the pot. Almost every post mentions the self-serve bar with greens, japchae and spicy pork, the free abalone porridge before noon, and the roses and pink muhly in the garden out front. We read 30 posts dated 15 July to 27 October 2026; one was about another restaurant and two were list articles, leaving 27 actual visits.

Rows without a count: 9 of 20 posts.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. The self-serve bar is half the meal. Eleven posts went back for more: besides greens there are japchae, spicy stir-fried pork, abalone porridge and sweet rice drink, and posts mention second helpings of japchae and porridge. One notes a 5,000-won charge if you leave food uneaten.
  2. Parking is easy. Twelve posts said so from experience — one estimated room for over 40 cars, another compared it to a hypermarket lot — and several mention a separate annex for tour-bus groups.
  3. Many came with children: ten posts brought kids and eight saw high chairs. Two were given children's tableware, and one family was seated where the stroller fit beside the table. Fourteen posts came with family — the largest group — against three with a partner, two with friends and two in groups.
  4. Four posts ordered at a table kiosk or tablet. One notes the braised mackerel cannot be ordered for a single diner.

Getting inside

Ramp at the door1 of 26 posts
Step-free access1 of 26 posts
Toilet inside3 of 26 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 26 posts

No post says which floor the dining room is on or whether there are steps; the "1F" in the address is copied. That means nobody wrote about it, not that it isn't there.

No post describes entering in a wheelchair. One saw accessible parking bays and a ramp; one wheeled a stroller to the table. Nobody mentions an entrance step, and "wheelchair accessible" lines copied from the listing were not counted.

Three posts say the toilets are inside the restaurant; one confirms separate men's and women's rooms.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Step at the entrance · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Waits vary. Four posts walked straight in (a weekend at 10:30, a weekday afternoon), while one saw eight parties on the CatchTable queue as they left. Three mention seating to wait in at the entrance; two booked ahead.
  • No post arrived by bus; the walking directions from the Soborida-ng entrance stop appear only as copied listing text in two posts. Most visitors drove.
  • Eighteen posts give opening hours of 09:30-20:00 and thirteen a 19:00 last order; one each says 08:30-18:30, 09:30-22:00 and a 20:00 last order. Closing day splits two to two between Mondays and open every day. Four posts say there is no break but floors are cleaned from 15:00 to 17:00. Most of this is copied listing text, so check before going.
  • Prices are reported consistently: 18,000 won per person for the signature or the seaweed-soup set; tilefish is 28,000 alone or 30,000 with rice. Recorded bills: 97,000 won for three adults, 59,000 for a family of four, 73,000 with two nephews. Five posts called it good value; one said it is on the pricier side.
  • Fourteen posts give the phone number 0507-1361-2457; one list article also gives 064-738-2457. Two posts booked ahead, and others saw tables laid out for group reservations.
  • Many October 2026 posts use "Seogwipo breakfast" in the title and repeat the same phrases in the same order — five minutes from the Jungmun resort, ten from the Daepo cliffs, a 3,500-pyeong garden, 16 side dishes, TV appearances — which suggests commissioned content. One post discloses sponsorship, three say they paid themselves, the rest are silent. Claims like 480 seats, celebrity regulars and home-grown greens come from the restaurant and were not used as evidence.
  • The boneless braised mackerel was reported discontinued in a July 2026 post, but three October posts list it at 30 servings a day, so it appears to have returned in between.
