Jeju Gimmanbok Bonjeom

제주김만복 본점 Gim is both a common Korean surname and the word for the dried laver that wraps gimbap, manbok means 'ten thousand blessings', and bonjeom marks this as the main branch.

A gimbap shop at 41 Ora-ro, Jeju City, which posts place three to fifteen minutes by car from Jeju airport. The signature Manbogine gimbap — rice stir-fried with abalone innards around a thick omelette — is 8,900 won, usually ordered with bracken yukgaejang ramyeon (10,800 won), radish tteokbokki (7,500 won) or crunchy bibim noodles (10,500 won). You order at a kiosk, collect your tray when your number is called and return the dishes yourself. Most writers stopped here right after picking up a rental car or on the way back to the airport. We read 30 posts published between 5 and 27 October 2026; 26 describe an actual visit (visit dates include one from July 2025 and some from July–August 2026).

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. It is self-service from start to finish. Twelve posts ordered at a kiosk (one calls it a tablet), picked up their food when the number came up and bussed their own trays. One writer learned that drinks are handed out by kitchen staff rather than taken from a fridge, so ordering one later meant waiting; another wished the self-service routine were better signposted.
  2. It is not just a takeaway counter. Sixteen posts sat down to eat, and seven of them describe tables plus a long counter along the windows — one lists a straight bar, four-tops in the middle and two-tops along the wall. Two posts mention power outlets, one counting several along the window bar. Nine writers called the room spacious; one alone found it small compared with the car park.
  3. Inside, the ceiling is high and a whale-shaped sculpture hangs overhead. Two posts mention the high ceiling — one said it felt like an aquarium — and several more mention the whale. One writer found the room quiet despite its size.
  4. Five posts came with children and three noticed high chairs. One child happily ate the bite-size gimbap set; another family's kids preferred the jambon-beurre gimbap and noodles; a five-year-old in a third post refused everything, even layered gimbap with the ham taken out.

  1. Eight posts mention the review event: show a Naver receipt review or an Instagram post tagging the shop — with a food photo and the receipt — and you get a sweet-corn ice cream, which shows up on the kiosk at 0 won. One writer found it big enough for two; another said it barely tasted of corn.
  2. Ten posts called something spicy — mostly the radish tteokbokki, the yukgaejang ramyeon and the bibim noodles; one warned spice-averse readers off the tteokbokki. Three others said it was only mildly hot. The gimbap itself is not spicy, and one parent ordered the momguk ramyeon as the non-spicy choice for a child.
  3. Only three posts talk about waiting. Two walked straight in, one at lunchtime; a third, arriving in the morning, grabbed nearly the last seats and watched a queue form right after. Food took five to ten minutes in one post and came quickly in another.

Parking

Posts saying you can park16 of 26 posts

The car park is right in front of the shop. Sixteen visit posts parked there or described it, most saying it was easy — one parked without trouble at 9 pm — and some note it is free. One writer cautioned that it is not unlimited, and a morning visitor found it already fairly full on arrival.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

Separate restrooms1 of 26 posts

No visitor said which floor the shop is on or whether there are steps; only the registered address says ground floor. That is an absence of reports, not a finding.

Nobody mentioned a step at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller — not even the five posts that came with children.

No visitor said whether the toilet is inside the shop. One writer saw separate men's and women's toilets; other mentions are copied from the map listing.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Portions split two to two: two writers found the gimbap and ramyeon generous, two found the food — including the tteokbokki — on the small side.
  • Prices differ slightly between posts from the same weeks: most give 8,900 won for the Manbogine gimbap and the bite-size set, two give 8,700 won, and one lists the bibim noodles at 9,800 won rather than 10,500. Couples typically paid in the mid-20,000s to around 30,000 won for gimbap plus a noodle or tteokbokki.
  • Most posts give the hours as 24 hours, every day, with 12 noting a 04:00–07:30 break — though writers say they took this from Naver Maps. What visitors actually saw: the shop was open at 8 pm and 9 pm. The 8 pm visitor found several items sold out, and someone who came at dawn for takeaway (not counted as a visit) left empty-handed because everything was gone. Several posts found the 12,000-won gimbap keyring sold out.
  • No one arrived by bus. Nearly everyone drove a rental car, and one writer took a ten-minute taxi from the airport. A single post claims public transport is easy but does not say how.
  • Many posts copy the phone number, 064-759-8582, but none says whether the shop takes reservations.
  • Two things have changed. One regular says the squid side switched at some point from fresh squid to dried shredded squid. Others describe the bracken yukgaejang ramyeon as new and the menu as much longer than before, and the kimchi ramyeon ordered in July 2025 is absent from every 2026 menu list.
  • Several self-described travel-influencer posts follow nearly the same outline — location and parking, roomy interior, menu, then the 'gimbap that never spoils' keyring — and two published the same day ordered the same three dishes in the same order. None discloses sponsorship, but they may be commissioned, so read their praise accordingly. Claims about the founder and how the rice and abalone sauce are prepared are the shop's own words, repeated by bloggers; we did not count them.
