Wondam
원담 Wondam is the Jeju word for a stone fish weir — a low curved wall of basalt on the shore that traps fish when the tide goes out.
Compiled from 25 blog posts read in fullSources →
Wondam is a mackerel sashimi house in a side street opposite Jeju City Hall, at 13 Donggwang-ro 1-gil, Ido 1-dong. Mackerel swim in a tank at the door and are cut to order; a sign on the wall tells you to lay seasoned rice and onion on laver, dip a slice in the house sauce and wrap it. A small plate (for two) was 60,000 won through June 2026 and 65,000 won in posts from August; the medium set with braised hairtail went from 105,000 to 115,000 won. Ask near the end and they bring a clear fish soup at no charge. We read 30 posts dated 12 February to 21 October 2026; two were about Jeju stone fish weirs (also called wondam) and were set aside, and 26 describe an actual meal here.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- Before the sashimi comes a small grilled mackerel and a pancake that tastes of curry. Sixteen posts say both arrived free with the setting — one called the pancake crisp outside and chewy inside, another said it tasted of turmeric. Ordered on its own, grilled mackerel is 10,000 won.
- Thirteen posts say the mackerel sashimi was not fishy, several from people who had avoided it for that reason. The free soup is another matter: some writers found it strongly fishy, one calling it the worst of the meal.
- Expect to wait in the evening. Six posts mention a queue, with times of an hour (six people, no booking), 40 minutes, 30–40 minutes and 40 minutes. Three posts walked straight in, on a weekday or at 9 pm. One writer, facing seven or eight groups at 8:30 on a Saturday, describes writing party size and phone number in a notebook by the counter; the shop called when three groups remained.
- Five posts went with a reservation. One booked through Naver and sat without waiting; another saw walk-ins turned away because the tables were all reserved. The claim that only a quarter of tables can be booked online is copied text, so we did not count it.
5 more
- Ten posts describe the seating; eight say the hall has tables with chairs and the back has floor seating. One noticed the chair tables fill first, and one with a booking was shown to the back room where you take your shoes off. Two posts called the place spacious.
- Five posts say portions are large: one urges couples to order the small, another says three people were stuffed on a medium. One post found the braised hairtail small for its price.
- Four posts call the soup or the braised hairtail spicy; one warns about the green chilies in the soup, and a family with a five-year-old left the braise to the adults.
- Three posts say they got more rice balls, laver, onion or sauce on request.
- Two posts came with children: one was given a child's fork for a five-year-old, the other fed the youngest the grilled mackerel while the older two ate sashimi. Nobody mentions high chairs.

Parking

No post mentions a lot of the shop's own. Most parking notes copy the rates of the public lot next door (free weekday nights and weekends, first 30 minutes free on weekdays). Three posts actually parked there; one paid a small fee at 6:30 on a weekday evening.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside
| Toilet inside | 2 of 25 posts |

| Separate restrooms | yes 0 · no 1 (of 25 posts read) |
No post says which floor the restaurant is on or whether there are stairs. The '1st floor' in the address is registry text, not something anyone described.
Nobody says whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. We only know the back room has floor seating where you remove your shoes.
Two posts say the toilet is inside the restaurant, one adding that it is shared by men and women. Nobody mentions an accessible toilet.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 27 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Prices went up. Posts through June 2026 give mackerel at 60,000 won small and 80,000 medium, and set 1 at 80,000 / 105,000 / 140,000; posts from August give 65,000 and 90,000, and 85,000 / 115,000 / 150,000. One August post still lists the large set at 140,000 and one February post the medium at 110,000, so we cannot date the change exactly. One post found it expensive; two called it good value.
- Two posts say you can get there without a car — by bus, or on foot from Dongmun Market. No one names a bus stop. Several writers walked from hotels near City Hall.
- Nineteen posts give the same hours, 4 pm to midnight; seventeen say closed Tuesdays and fourteen give last orders at 11 pm, mostly copied from the map listing. Some say it closes early when fish runs out; one March visitor found the mixed sashimi sold out by 9 pm.
- Ten posts give the phone number as 0507-1351-0211 and two as 064-900-0211. Bookings were made through Naver or by phone, and one takeaway order was phoned in ahead and collected without waiting.
- Two posts saw a sign offering a free bottle of soju, beer or soda for a receipt review. One of them says that is why the reviews glow, found the fish no better than at home, the water and drinks not cold, and won't return. Read the praise with that in mind.
- A few posts look templated — one is a string of photo captions with a review-count widget left in, one lists dishes the house doesn't serve, one only recites prices. We kept the first two as visits because they name what was ordered, but counted almost nothing from them.
