Korean

Baekbujangjip

백부장집 Baekbujang is the Korean Bible's word for a centurion; the owner told one blogger the name is that biblical centurion, and that one should stay a captain of a hundred rather than become a captain of a thousand.

A Korean home-style buffet in a red building on Hallim-jungang-ro 64, Hallim-eup, Jeju, across from the Hallim sports ground. Adults pay 9,900 won (children 8,000 / 6,000 / 4,000 by age) for unlimited white or barley rice, soup, namul and kimchi, mains such as spicy stir-fried pork and fried hairtail, self-serve janchi noodles, eggs you fry yourself, sandwiches and watermelon, and sikhye and coffee. Several posts mention a 3,000-won charge for leftovers. We read 30 posts from 28 May to 21 October 2026 and counted 28 as actual visits; one was about a different shop of the same name in Seoul, and one was a promotional write-up with nothing first-hand in it.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Thirteen posts call the owner or staff friendly, and they say why: the owner suggested the barley-rice bibimbap, asked one diner why there was no egg on it, wrapped fresh sweet-potato fritters in a paper cup for a departing family, and handed another table three slices of watermelon he had been given.
  2. Eighteen posts describe a large room. One lays it out — the buffet in three rows down the middle with tables on both sides — and five mention seats from solo spots to tables for eight and groups.
  3. Eight posts saw the wall of celebrity autographs themselves (names include Lee Hoon, marathoner Lee Bong-ju, Kim Yong-man, Lee Man-gi). Posts that only repeat that celebrities are said to eat here are not counted.
  4. Four posts saw boxed lunches, side dishes, kimchi and sikhye for sale to take away; one gives 8,000 won for a tub of sikhye.

Parking

23 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park23 of 28 posts

There is parking. Twenty-three posts parked or saw the lot, and sixteen called it large. Sixteen describe a private lot behind the building with a back door straight into the dining room; three place it in front. Two add that street parking works too.

Getting inside

Toilet inside1 of 28 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 28 posts

No post describes the floor or any steps from experience. The address says ground floor and one post says the restaurant takes the whole building, but nobody describes the way in.

Nobody says whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or pushchair gets in — that means unknown, not absent. One post notes a braille label on the price board.

Only one post mentions toilets: a women's toilet just to the left inside the back door from the car park. No one else says anything.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opening hours disagree. The copied listing says 06:00-20:30 with a 15:00-17:00 break and Sundays closed, and seven posts add that Saturday afternoons are off. But three posts (two in June, one in September 2026) say it opens at 08:00, one says it does not open at dawn, and one heard 6:30. The Sunday closure and the afternoon break are consistent. Two posts advise calling before an early visit.
  • Two posts came by bus — one traveling without a rental car, one riding about an hour from Daejeong in Seogwipo. Nobody names a stop or the walk. Six posts mention driving.
  • No post reports waiting; one says there were enough tables to sit straight down. But one saw the room fill up with tour groups soon after an 11am start, and another saw a lunchtime rush, so we can't promise a free table at noon. Nobody gives a waiting time.
  • Every post from May to October 2026 gives the same price, 9,900 won for adults. When you pay is split one to one: one post paid first, another after eating. The claim that the price was cut a few years ago is hearsay and not counted.
  • Many posts list the same phone number, 064-796-6996. One post says they booked ahead, and several mention groups, but nobody explains how reservations work.
  • Many posts end with the same six hashtags, which suggests commissioned writing. Only one discloses sponsorship and one says the author paid. Each still records its own meal, so we counted them, but read the praise with that in mind.
