Marado Hoetjip

마라도횟집 Marado is the small island off Jeju that marks Korea's southern tip, and hoetjip means a raw-fish (sashimi) house.

A sashimi house on Cheongsa-ro 3-gil in Donam-dong, Jeju City, next to the National Pension Service office. Lunch brings 10,000-won specials — sushi, seafood ramyeon, cold raw-fish soup — while evenings center on winter giant amberjack and assorted sashimi at 55,000 won a head, plus a 30,000-won sashimi course. Whatever you order, the posts agree, a parade of extras follows: steamed egg, soy-marinated crab, braised anchovies, fried bits. It moved here from Yeondong, and the sign reportedly still says "Yeondong Marado." We read 17 posts from May 2025 to August 2026; 12 describe an actual meal.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Even the 10,000-won lunch fills the table; six visitors said so. One who ordered the sushi special asked staff whether he had been given the 30,000-won course by mistake after crab, fried anchovies and steamed egg arrived first. Another pair ordered just two plates — wild bream and armored shrimp — and kept receiving cutlassfish sashimi, eel rice and bream soup until they looked up whether the price was per person.
  2. No one called it expensive. Six posts framed it as cheap for what arrives; one diner at 55,000 won per head for amberjack said it was not a small sum but worth it. One visitor warned that expecting a Blue Ribbon restaurant might disappoint, and suggested treating it as a good-value 10,000-won lunch spot.
  3. You order from the table: two posts mention a kiosk at every table, one ordered via the Let's Order app. Three went with a reservation; one group of four found two four-person tables pushed together and set for them.
  4. Three posts mention a glass of dangyuja, a local citrus drink, by the entrance; two had it on the way out, and one mixed it into soju.

Parking

4 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park4 of 12 posts

Parking means the public lots in front of and beside the building: all four visitors who parked used them, two noting they were free. Copied info blocks contradict each other — one says no parking, another claims its own spaces — so we do not rely on them.

Where it is

Map showing where Marado Hoetjip is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

No visitor described which floor it is on; only the address says ground floor.

Nobody mentioned steps at the door or wheelchair or stroller access. That means unknown, not absent.

One post called the restroom clean; none said whether it is inside or split by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 16 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • It moved from Yeondong, near the Shilla Stay Jeju City hotel. Three past regulars say the new room is larger; one recalls the old place as cramped and worn. No one gives the moving date, and the earliest visit we read (May 2025) is already at this address. A claim that many reviews say the taste changed after the move is secondhand, so we did not count it.
  • No one reported waiting in line. One visitor booked by phone in June and found it quiet; nobody describes a winter-evening amberjack-season crowd. One visitor said food took about 15 minutes to arrive.
  • No one described getting there by bus. Two arrived by taxi and one by rental car; the 15-minutes-from-the-airport figure is copied, not measured.
  • Seven posts list the same hours, 11:30 to 23:00 daily, but all copy an info block; no one mentions a break, last order or closing day. Five posts give the same phone number, 064-746-2286, and at least one visitor booked by phone.
  • No post from August 2025 to June 2026 reports a price change, but amberjack is a winter fish and one visitor noted the menu shifts with the day's catch, so what comes with the sashimi varies by season.
