선재로99 Shellfish grill on Seonjae island, named after its own street address

Seonjaero 99 is a shellfish grill on Seonjae island, right next to the café Ppeoldabang. The name is the address. Scallops, pen shells, clams and whelks come stacked two tiers high under cheese and flying-fish roe, and you grill them yourself. The mixed grill runs 60,000, 75,000 and 90,000 won by size, and before it arrives the grill is already loaded — live abalone in butter, two cheese dips, a bean-sprout fish-cake broth, none of it charged. In autumn there are seasonal prawns. The young owner plays nineties K-pop and has filled the room with lights and props, which is why every writer says it doesn't look like a shellfish joint. There is a curtained couple's table you have to book, a photo corner, and in summer a small paddling pool for children. Private car parks flank the building; on an island, everyone drives. The posts we read run from August 2025 to September 2026.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.
These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours
What sets it apart
- The grill is loaded before you have paid for anything. Order the mixed shellfish and out comes a foil tray of live abalone swimming in butter, two dips — corn-and-cheese and the house's spicy cheese sauce — and a fish-cake broth thick with bean sprouts, none of it on the bill. Twenty-five posts record this; one asks how it can possibly be free. The abalone count varies from two to four. The broth is the one thing writers disagree on: twenty-five call it standard, two say they ordered it for 4,000 won, and the board does list a price.
- You cannot eat the shellfish grill outside. The parasol-and-festoon-light terrace fills half the photographs of this place, but the burners stay indoors, so the only things served out there are the prawns. Four posts say so plainly. For shellfish you go in; the terrace comes into its own in autumn, when the daeha are running. One writer notes the sunset lands on that side.
- The couple's table has to be booked. There is one two-seater at the back, screened off with a curtain, and sixteen posts point at it — every one of them noting it is reservation-only. Not a single writer has actually sat there. They photograph it on the way past and say they'll book it next time. Several advise phoning ahead for any table on a weekend evening, and one party who did found the abalone and cheese already warming on their burner when they walked in.

Parking
23 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Parking is not something you need to plan for, and this one people actually looked at. Twenty-three posts describe it, and not from a copied facilities list: there are two private lots, a smaller one to the right of the building and a considerably larger one behind and to the left. One writer parked at the back and walked round; another found spaces going spare on a public holiday. Two call it free, and nobody anywhere reports paying.

Getting there

Getting inside
| Second floor | yes 0 · no 1 (of 27 posts read) |
|---|---|
| Toilet inside | 4 of 27 posts |
| Separate restrooms | 1 of 27 posts |
Ground floor. Only one post says so outright, and none mentions stairs or a lift. The outdoor tables sit on the flat in front of the building.
Not one post says whether you can get in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. Nothing across twenty-eight posts about a step, a ramp, or the width of the door. The word pushchair appears twice: once inside a facilities list lifted wholesale from the map listing, once in a sentence that turns out to be about a dog carrier. Five parties brought children and none of them mentions wheeling one in. This is nobody looked, not there isn't one.
The toilets are inside, and four people looked. One gives the location — behind the till; one says men's and women's are separate; one describes it as feeling like somebody's home bathroom; one calls it pension-ish but clean and private. Four further posts carry the line "separate men's and women's" lifted from the map listing, and those we did not count — copied is not the same as seen. One writer notes a little shop of odds and ends on the way to it.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 29 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Not one post says how to get here without a car. Across twenty-eight posts there is no bus, no train, no taxi. Seonjae is reached by bridge past Daebu island, and every writer came for the drive — for the sea air, as a run out from Seoul. That is not the same as saying there is no bus; it means nobody has tried. If you don't drive, we have nothing to tell you about this place. What the posts do settle is that somebody at your table has to stay sober: three writers went without a drink because they were driving.
- Nobody reports queueing, but five posts found the room full. The word "wait" turns up once, and only to say there wasn't one — "no queue as such, but the tables were nearly all taken" (Saturday, eight in the evening). One party arriving at half past eleven in the morning counted five occupied tables and had the place practically to themselves. Against that: nearly full by seven on a Saturday; full by the time one group left; and one writer who says she dreads to think what would have happened if they hadn't booked. It reads as book-for-dinner, walk-in-at-lunch — but no one has actually written about waiting outside.
- The opening hours differ from post to post — six versions, and this looks like real change rather than sloppy copying. Posts from summer and autumn 2025 agree on Wednesday as the closing day (five of them). Posts from summer 2026 agree on a different shape: Monday 12:00–23:00, Tuesday to Thursday 12:00–22:00, Friday 12:00–24:00, Saturday 11:00–24:00, Sunday 11:00–23:00, last orders an hour before (five of them). Then three posts from mid-September 2026 onward give 16:30–22:00 on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 11:00–24:00 Friday to Sunday, closed Tuesdays — the rest day has moved from Wednesday to Tuesday. Two other September posts still say Wednesday, so we cannot tell you which is current. The three most recent all say Tuesday, which is the better bet, but phone before you go. One writer says as much herself: the hours differ by day, check them.
- Almost every post about this place carries the same promotion. Twenty-two of them relay, in near-identical wording, that following the shop on Instagram and subscribing on YouTube gets you a pineapple sherbet "worth 8,000 won", and that a receipt review on Naver earns dried sweet potato "worth 10,000" — and six writers went home with the sweet potato. Yet only three declare the post as sponsored. The rest describe the freebie and say nothing. The phrase "shellfish brought in fresh that same day" likewise appears in twenty posts in almost the same words; that is the owner's line being passed along, and what the writers actually saw was shellfish moving in a tank. We have not counted that phrase as an observation.
- The owner shows you how to grill and keeps an eye on the table. Seventeen posts describe the service: keep scallops off the centre of the fire, turn slowly, flip once; prawn heads shelled and crisped for you; soft drinks poured over ice into a wine glass; a chair fetched so a dog could sleep on it; and one writer gently told off for lifting the lid to photograph the prawns. Four mention a karaoke night where singing earns you something off the kitchen. Nobody has written a bad word about the service, which also means we cannot tell you how evenly these seventeen accounts hold.
- Five parties brought children. Four describe a small paddling pool set up in front of the shop in summer, and one was given child-sized bowls and spoons without asking. But this is a grill-it-yourself place and not every child eats shellfish: two parties ordered the seafood kalguksu separately, one noting it is neither strong nor spicy and the children finished it. Whether there are high chairs appears only in copied facilities listings — nobody writes about putting a child in one.
