Samdeok Tongdak Songdo

삼덕통닭 송도점 Daegu-born cauldron-fried chicken house, Songdo branch

Data as of · Published ·

Samdeok Tongdak's Songdo branch is a fried-chicken house on the ground floor of a shopping podium about five minutes' walk from Incheon National University station. The chain started in Daegu and this is its Songdo outpost. The shop advertises that every bird is fried to order in a cast-iron cauldron in fresh oil, and several writers note the wait that follows. Four in the afternoon until two in the morning, last orders at one. The signature is the sammi — soy glaze with honey, cheongyang chilli and garlic — and every bird except the bone-in one can be bought by the half. The posts we read run from May 2025 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours

What sets it apart

  1. The chicken here leans hot. The signature sammi opens sweet with soy and finishes with cheongyang chilli, and nearly every writer who describes the taste lands on that finish. Nobody calls it punishing: the usual verdicts are "hot but fine", "the garlic is mild, it's the chilli", and "milder than the gangjeong at Sinpo market". If chilli is a problem there is the honey bird, or the plain fried one with no sauce at all. The party that brought children ordered the plain bird separately for them.
  2. Every bird is fried after you order it, so you wait. The shop says as much on the wall — cast-iron cauldron, cooked to order — and the writers who waited treat it as the point rather than a complaint: this is why it arrives hot. One had phoned the order ahead and still waited; another warns it will not come at fast-food speed. One visitor, arriving at a quiet hour, got hers quickly. Not a place to go in a hurry.
  3. It doubles as a place to watch sport. One writer points out that the televisions face each other from opposite walls, so no seat has its back to the game; two others were there on baseball nights. One predicts the room will be packed during a World Cup. Seven posts describe the room as wide with generous gaps between tables, which is why company dinners and group nights keep coming up.

Getting inside

Second flooryes 0 · no 1 (of 19 posts read)

It is on the ground floor. One post places it between buildings 101 and 102, by gates six and seven. No post mentions stairs or a lift.

Not one post says whether you can get in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. Across twenty posts there is nothing about a step at the door, a ramp, or how the entrance opens. All we know is that it sits on the ground floor of a shopping podium — which does not by itself mean there is no step. The one family with a fifteen-month-old ordered delivery and never went. This is nobody looked, not there isn't one.

Not one post mentions the toilets. Whether they are inside the shop or out in the mall corridor, whether they are separate for men and women — twenty posts, nothing. For a room where people drink until two in the morning this is worth knowing, and we cannot tell you because nobody wrote it down.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 20 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Only two posts describe getting here on public transport. Both put it about five minutes' walk from Incheon National University station, and one adds that the train is the way to come if you plan to drink. The other eighteen say nothing about how they arrived — several wandered in for a second round after eating nearby, but how they reached the neighbourhood in the first place isn't in the writing.
  • Whether you queue depends entirely on when you come, and the posts flatly contradict each other. One waited ten minutes for a table on a weeknight; one found the room overflowing at seven and tells you to phone ahead; one regular says go before six on Fridays and weekends. Against that: one walked in past midnight to a near-empty room, one arrived at a moment with no wait at all, one found the place slack because it was between rushes. A single post notes a waiting list by the door. It reads as a shop that fills at dinner and empties late.
  • Two of the posts read as if written from the same brief. They come from different blogs six months apart, yet share their shape: the same inventory of what is already on the table (side plates, bone bin, paper cups, shot glasses, and napkins, wipes, forks and chopsticks in the drawer beside you), the same line about the macaroni crackers that come free and being too embarrassed to admit asking for a refill, the same closing note about leftovers being boxed up quickly and kindly. Both record what they actually ordered, so we kept them in the count — but they look commissioned. Not one of the twenty posts declares a sponsorship.
  • A bowl of puffed macaroni crackers arrives free with the order. Six posts mention it, three of them that a refill was given for the asking. Corn salad, pickled radish, salt and mustard come with the bird at no charge. One post notes that the sweet-chilli sauce is the exception — you pay for that separately.
