Hanseong Chungmu Gimbap

한성충무김밥 Hanseong is an old name for Seoul; chungmu gimbap is Tongyeong's plain finger-sized rice roll, eaten with spicy squid and radish kimchi on the side.

Compiled from 7 blog posts read in fullSources →

A chungmu gimbap shop on Sanyang-iljuro 1771 in Sanyang-eup, Tongyeong, next door to a tackle shop, that opens before dawn. A portion of eight rolls is 6,500 won and a ramyeon set with six rolls is 10,000 won; the rolls come with radish kimchi, spicy squid-and-fishcake salad and a radish-greens soup. Some posts ate there at dawn before fishing, others took it away to eat at their lodging or a rest stop. We read 10 posts from December 2024 to October 2026; 7 of them went to the shop and ate or bought food.

Rows without a count: 2 of 3 posts.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Three posts took food away. One bought it as a late-night snack for an island stay; another phoned ahead, picked it up and ate at a motorway rest stop, noting the soup was packed too. One post says takeout needs at least two portions.
  2. Two posts saw chef Lee Yeon-bok's autograph in the shop. Other posts that say he visited or praised it are repeating hearsay, and we did not count them.
  3. One post says gimbap must be ordered for two or more, every diner must order a dish, and you pay first; a family of four ordered three portions plus one ramyeon. No other post mentions the rule.
  4. One post says the shop is hard to reach without a car and drove there. No post went by bus.
1 more
  1. One post found the shop quiet and the food quick to arrive. Two posts called it clean, one pointing to the black-and-white interior, the other to its many tables for four or more.

Where it is

Map showing where Hanseong Chungmu Gimbap is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

From the station

0 posts say it is walkable from the station.

Getting inside

No post says which floor the shop is on or whether there are steps.

No post says whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller got in. That means nobody wrote about it, not that there is none.

No post says where the toilet is or whether it is separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 8 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Prices went up: 6,000 won a portion in the December 2024 opening notice from the tackle shop next door, 6,500 won in posts from December 2025 and August 2026. The December 2025 post blurred its menu photo because prices had changed. On value, one post says chungmu gimbap never feels cheap but calls the set good value, so there is no clear verdict.
  • Opening hours differ over time. Posts from September and December 2025 agree on 4:00-15:00 weekdays and 3:00-15:00 weekends (last order 14:30); a February 2026 post says it closes at 13:30, and an August 2026 listing says 14:00. All are copied listings, and no post mentions a closing day.
  • One post read that the shop had moved within Tongyeong, and the December 2024 notice announced it as newly opened. No post describes the old shop, so we don't know when or from where it moved.
  • No post mentions waiting in line. That means nobody wrote about it, not that there is never a wait.
  • Most visits were with family (four posts); one post went alone and one with a friend.
  • Posts from December 2025 and August 2026 give the phone number as 0507-1323-6426; only the December 2024 notice gives 055-645-6426. One post phoned in a takeout order, but no post says whether you can reserve a table.
