Munhwamadang Chungmu Gimbap

문화마당충무김밥 Munhwa madang means 'culture yard', the plaza on Tongyeong's Gangguan harbour that the shop faces; chungmu gimbap is the Tongyeong style of plain rice rolled in laver, eaten with spicy squid and radish kimchi on the side.

Compiled from 11 blog posts read in fullSources →

A one-dish shop facing the Munhwa Madang plaza on Tongyeong's Gangguan harbour, beside Jungang Market, selling only chungmu gimbap. A portion comes with squid-and-fish-cake salad, radish kimchi and sirakguk soup; seven posts give 7,500 won, two give 7,000 won. You can eat in, but nine of the eleven posts took it away to eat at their lodging, on Seopirang hill or across in Geoje. Two posts note the shop had only recently moved. We read 11 posts, from 16 July to 23 September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Posts are specific about the packing. Nine of eleven took food away; two say a four-portion order was split into two-portion parcels, and two mention disposable bowls for the soup and wooden picks. Two also warn that for takeaway you have to ask for the soup up front.
  2. Three posts that ate in say the side dishes were topped up: one was told to just ask, one says more kept arriving whenever the plates looked low, and one ate the extra servings brought over.
  3. Five posts call the portions large, pointing at both the side dishes and the rice; two had leftovers from four portions for breakfast the next day.
  4. Five posts mention places to sit: two describe two- and four-person tables, one adds six-person tables, and two say the large windows look out on Gangguan harbour and the turtle ship.

The prices here are what bloggers wrote down in their posts, and they may have changed since. Check Naver Place for the current menu and prices. This list is not a menu board — it counts what bloggers actually ordered and ate. Check on Naver Place

Parking

6 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park6 of 11 posts

There is no dedicated lot. Of nine posts that mention parking, six parked in the street bays out front or the Jungang Market and Munhwa Madang public lots; one notes the bays on the main street are hard to get. The 'no parking' line in three posts is copied from listing info, so we did not count it.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

Toilet inside2 of 11 posts

No post says which floor the shop is on or mentions stairs; only the address says ground floor.

We don't know whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or pushchair gets in. Nobody wrote about it, which is not the same as there being none.

Two posts say the toilet is inside the shop. Separate men's and women's toilets appear only in one post's copied listing info; no one reported seeing them.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Prices disagree: seven posts say 7,500 won a portion and two say 7,000 won, dated 16 July and 20 August, so we cannot tell when or whether the price changed. Three posts call it good value.
  • Before July 2026 the shop moved here from the unit next door: one post says it expanded from the old shop to the right, another heard so from the owners, and the 16 July post wondered if it was new. All posts we read are from after the move.
  • Ten posts give the same hours, 6 am to 8 pm and closed Wednesdays, all copied from listing info; one post from 16 July gives 6 am to 11 pm, and 2 am at weekends.
  • No post arrived by bus or other public transport; they only say it is an easy walk from Jungang Market, Dongpirang and the harbour.
  • No post mentions waiting. One says the food came quickly, and one that went late in the evening found diners finishing up. That means nobody reported a queue, not that there never is one.
  • Ten posts give the phone number 055-641-0097. One copied a note that Naver booking is available and one suggests phoning ahead for takeaway, but no post actually booked or ordered by phone.
