Noodle house

Taegine Jogae-jeongol Yeongtong-jeom

택이네조개전골 영통점 A branch of the Taegine chain a few minutes from Yeongtong station in Suwon, where a cast-iron steamer over 60cm across comes to the table lidded, packed with clams, abalone, prawn and a whole squid over cabbage, with a pot of melted cheese in the middle and a timer beside it; the barley rice at the self-serve bar is free.

Taegine Jogae-jeongol is a clam-hotpot house on the ground floor of a lane opposite the tax office, a few minutes from exit 2 at Yeongtong station in Suwon. It opened here in June 2025 and is one branch of a chain. It really sells one thing: a cast-iron steamer more than 60cm across, stacked with shellfish and brought to the table lidded. A staff member sets a timer, comes back when it rings, lifts the lid and cuts up the whole squid for you. A pot of melted cheese sits in the middle of it. Until three in the afternoon there is a one-person noodle soup instead. Half past eleven to ten at night, last orders at nine. The posts we read run from June 2025 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours

What sets it apart

  1. There is almost nothing for you to do. Nineteen posts describe the same sequence: the steamer arrives lidded with a timer beside it (two say eight minutes, eight say ten, two say ten to fifteen), and when it rings a staff member comes and lifts the lid. One writer passes on the warning not to touch it yourself. They also cut up the whole squid with scissors, and carry off any oyster that has not opened and bring it back shucked. Four posts record being told to eat the pen-shell adductor first, before it goes rubbery. Two say the relief of it is that, unlike a clam grill, there is nothing to turn.
  2. Fritters arrive free while you wait out the ten minutes. Twenty-five of the twenty-seven posts mention them: squid legs and fried dumplings, set on top of the lidded steamer. Twelve say they come straight from the fryer; four praise how full the dumplings are. Two point out that the same fritters are a paid side on the menu, and one guesses the freebie is particular to this branch — whether other branches do it, we do not know. One writer suspects the legs are cut from the same whole squid that goes into the pot.
  3. Barley rice is free, and you take as much as you like. Twenty-six posts describe the self-serve bar and twenty-three ate from it: a rice cooker at the back, with young-radish kimchi, shredded radish, sauce and sesame oil to mix it yourself. Three mention the sign outside advertising it; five call it unlimited. The side dishes live there too — six single out the stir-fried kimchi, and one went back for it three times. But six warn that a full bowl will cost you the pot: one writer never got to hers, and one reports a notice from the shop asking people to take only what they will finish.
  4. All twenty-seven posts say it is a great deal of food, without exception. The best evidence is not the praise but what people failed to eat: dropping noodles into the last of the broth is the expected finish here, and six writers were too full to manage it — three of them resolving to leave room next time. One party of three found a two-person pot enough; several pairs describe barely getting through one. One writer advises a portion a head only if you are a big eater.
4 more
  1. Nobody calls it expensive. All eight posts that discuss price say the opposite, usually by pointing at the quantity or at a ₩10,000 lunch. But it is worth knowing that the pot price is a pot price, not a price per person — ₩47,000 for two, ₩59,000 for three, ₩71,000 for four. Divided out, that is ₩23,500 a head for two and ₩17,750 for four: the more of you there are, the cheaper it gets. Across sixteen months of posts, from June 2025 to September 2026, not one price has moved — the two-person pot is ₩47,000 throughout, the noodles ₩2,000.
  2. You set the heat when you order. Green chilli goes into the broth, and you can ask for it out or piled in — three writers record being asked first, two of them at tables with children. Ten describe the broth as sharp or hot; one who had the chilli left out found it flat without. One says flatly that it is not spicy, without recording which way she ordered. Five posts advise saying so at the counter if you cannot take heat or have a child with you.
  3. The room is laid out for groups. Seventeen posts call it large, and twelve of those go on to suggest it for a work dinner or a family outing. Seven describe a choice of seating — partitioned booths on one side, open tables on the other; one notes the partitions are high, one a window table good for two, one a sign marking a six-seat reservation. Three remark that despite a boiling pot on every table the room stayed cool. One finds the lighting on the dim side.
  4. Thirteen writers say they will come back, and nine of them for the same reason — they never got to the noodles, or they want to try a topping. Three said it with their feet instead: one who works nearby and lunches here often, one who came two weekends running in May 2025, and one returning after three years. That last writer found the frontage changed, asked, and was told the shop had moved to this spot a year before.

Posts saying you can park5 of 27 posts

The boilerplate at the top of these posts contradicts itself on parking: eight say one or two cars fit in front, two say there is no parking at all. None of those ten writers actually parked — every one of those lines sits in a copied information block. Five people did park, and all five left the car in front of the shop. One is careful about it: there is no marked lot, she took the space out front, and it is not a space you can count on. Another found room further down the lane. Two posts advise ringing ahead to ask.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 27 posts read)
Separate restrooms1 of 27 posts

We know the floor only from the address. The registered address ends in '1st floor', and several posts copy it out. But not one of them says whether the entrance is level with the street or whether there is a step at the door. That it is neither upstairs nor in a basement is all we can say; the last step in is unknown to us.

Not one post says whether you could get in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. Across twenty-seven accounts there is no mention of a step, a threshold, a ramp, a wheelchair or a pram — not even the phrase copied from listings elsewhere. This is not a yes and not a no: nobody looked. If it matters, the phone is the safer route.

Exactly one writer looked at the toilet. She reports that it is separate for men and women, and that you leave the building to reach it — it is not inside the restaurant. Four other posts contain the phrase 'separate toilets', but in all four it sits in a run of text with 'wi-fi · groups welcome · takeaway · reservations', copied from a listing rather than seen. One person's look is not twenty-seven people's.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • How long the walk from Yeongtong station takes depends on who you ask — two posts give 327 metres from exit 2 (both the same figure, so evidently copied), one says five minutes, one seven, two about ten. Finding it is said to be easy: four use the same landmark, the Hollys coffee lane opposite the tax office. One writer came by bus, on a route she already takes home from work, but no post names a bus number or a stop.
  • Nobody records queuing. Six do record the room filling: one or two tables at first and full by the end of the evening, packed at dinner, seats taken 'really fast', one writer startled by how suddenly it filled around her. One walked straight in early precisely because there is no afternoon break. One notes a sofa outside for waiting — though she did not wait on it. Two booked ahead and were shown to a reserved table.
  • The one thing the opening hours disagree about is Sunday. Twenty-one posts give hours and all of them say half past eleven to ten, with last orders at nine. But twelve say the place closes every Sunday and seven say it opens daily. Both may be right: a June 2025 post and a July 2025 post each note that the Sunday closure runs only from June to September, and indeed the Sunday-closed posts cluster in summer while the 'daily' ones cluster in autumn and winter. One July 2026 post breaks the pattern by saying daily. If you are planning a summer Sunday, ring first. Only one writer mentions the absence of an afternoon break; the other twenty-six say nothing about it.
  • Four of the twenty-seven declare that the meal was comped. One says so in her first line; one tags the post 'comped, plus my own money' and records paying part of an ₩89,000 pot herself; one carries a single word at the top; one has a review-campaign tag at the end. A fifth goes the other way and puts 'not an ad' in her title. The remaining twenty-two say nothing either way — which means nothing is written, not that nothing was given.
  • The block of amenities at the head of six posts is not something those writers saw. 'Groups welcome · takeaway · reservations · wi-fi · separate toilets · high chairs', all in one run, is the amenity list from the map listing copied across — one post even labels it as such, and another has it truncated mid-word. So we have counted no instance of wi-fi, takeaway or a high chair here. That is not a claim the place lacks them; it is that we could not find anyone who used one. The same goes for the local-currency vouchers: they appear in a payments list, but no writer records actually paying with them.
