Sam Soon is an Italian restaurant on the main road at the foot of the Donga Plaza building in Yeongtong, Suwon, five hundred metres or so from exit 8 of the station. Pasta, risotto, pizza, lasagna, gnocchi and steak share one board, and the sauces are said to be made in-house — six posts were told so. Wood, jazz, an open kitchen, and a tablet on every table to order from. It sells wine and charges no corkage, so plenty of people bring their own. Eleven in the morning until ten at night, with lunch orders closing at twenty past three and the room reopening at five. It does not close on any day of the week. The posts we read run from November 2024 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. You can bring your own wine and they charge nothing for it — ten posts say so, and it is the thing this restaurant is most often praised for. It also sells wine: twelve mention the list, two note wine by the glass, one calls the prices very fair. Several describe other tables rather than their own — nearly everyone else was drinking, says one; the large table beside her looked like a wine club, says another. Rather few of the writers drank, in fact: four explain that they had driven.
  2. There are wooden high chairs — ten posts mention them and two used one; one child spent the meal looking out of the window, apparently enjoying the atmosphere. One post adds that there is children's tableware. Two ordered pasta with the heat turned off so a child could share, and one reports that the pepperoni pizza was mild enough for her youngest. Five of the writers brought children.
  3. Write a Naver receipt review and you get a drink — nine posts say so and the terms never vary: a soft drink for one reviewer, a pressed orange juice for two. Six of those posts span July to September 2026, so it does not look seasonal. Two others mention a drink coupon for following the shop, and four that lunch on a weekday comes with an americano to take away — one writer was delighted to find it was cold brew. And there is a basket of lollipops by the till, which nine posts stop to mention on the way out.
  4. It fills up at lunch — eight posts found it full. Packed on a weekday, one says, and she got the last table; another arrived at half past one on a Sunday to find everything taken except the seat she had booked; another at one on a Saturday, the same. Two saw people waiting outside, one noting there is somewhere to sit while you do. So six recommend booking and four had, by phone or through the platform. It is not a big room, one of them points out, so book.
  5. The kitchen is open to the room — six posts mention it. One likes open kitchens on principle, reading them as a sign of confidence; another says it lets you see the hygiene and the cooking; a third simply notes watching the food being made. One describes the wine bottles and glasses lined up along the pass.
  6. Six had been before and five say they will return. The longest-standing has known the place three years; another is on her fourth visit and comes with her mother; another has been two or three times since moving to the area. Some posts are disappointed by a dish, but not one says it will not come back.
  7. Six posts talk about the service and all six are warm. Some say what happened: one was asked, before the dish was made, whether a flat pasta instead of the usual shape would be acceptable; one was brought an iced coffee at the end, on the house; one suggests simply asking staff what to order; one ordered a single cola and was given two iced glasses. That is six accounts from a restaurant where you order off a tablet and barely have to speak to anyone.
  8. Water and pickled radish arrive when you sit down — eight posts mention them. Two think the pickles are made in-house; one, who normally leaves house pickles alone, found these less sour than most; another likes that there is plenty. Those and the lollipops by the till are the only free things here: bread before the meal is an order of its own.

Parking

12 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park12 of 29 posts

You park in the building and they validate two hours — twelve posts mention it and eleven of them drove. Three note that the levels above hold plenty of cars; one says parking is simply not something you need to think about here. Two say the validation happens when you pay. Past two hours, though, you pay: one writer talked for longer than that and reports the bill she got. Three give the same piece of advice — don't try to find the restaurant from inside the building; come out at ground level and go round to the main road.

Getting there

Map showing where Sam Soon is

Naver Map has a full English mode — Settings → Language → English. In Korea it gives better walking and transit directions than Google Maps.

Getting inside

One post lists wheelchair access and an accessible parking bay, and we counted neither. Those words sit inside a block copied wholesale from the platform's facility list — birthday perks, roastery, wine pairing, Wi-Fi, separate toilets, waiting seats, three kinds of local voucher — which is not the same as having seen them. None of the other twenty-eight mentions a step, a ramp, a wheelchair or a pushchair. This is missing information rather than an absence of obstacles. It is a ground-floor room on a main road and not a large one; if it matters, call first.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Prices went up in early September 2026. The vongole was 17,000 won in June 2025, in August 2026 and still on 4 September; by the 12th it was 18,000, and the bruschetta moved from 10,000 to 11,000 in the same window. The post from the 12th says as much itself, noting that several dishes now cost more than the platform listing, and transcribes the whole board. Not everything moved, though: the pepperoni pizza, the house salad and the truffle fries are unchanged since November 2024. The steak has drifted further — 34,000 won in late 2024, 37,000 by September 2026. One figure will not reconcile: the shrimp rosé appears at 17,000 on that 12 September board, and a diner on the 20th records paying 16,000.
  • Two dishes have been renamed, and in one case rebuilt. Four posts from 2024 and 2025 name one cut of beef for the steak; five from 2026 name another. And the rosé pasta that was a bisque in November 2024, at 17,000 won, is a prawn dish at 16,000 in 2026. Searching the old names will turn up a different plate in the same slot.
  • There is barely a sign, and people walk past it — eight posts say so. Five give the same landmark in almost the same words: find the mala tang place next door. The sign is tiny, says one; you have to look hard to see the lettering on the glass, says another; one admits she went straight past and had to double back. Other landmarks offered are the Donga Plaza building with the cake shop in it, the family court, the tax office and a nearby hotel. One writer disagrees that it is a problem: sign or no sign, she says, you know which one it is, because it is the only good-looking frontage on the row.
  • They disagree about the size: two call it roomy, two do not. Three counted tables and their counts are close — five or six fours and two twos; about eight; seven or eight fours. Those who found it small advise booking. Those who did not offer a reason: from outside you think it will be cramped, writes one, and then the ceiling height opens it up. Another says the open kitchen keeps it from feeling closed in. By table count this is a small restaurant that does not read as one — though that is our reading of it, not anybody's sentence.
  • Thirteen of the twenty-nine posts went up between 4 and 20 September 2026, which suggests the restaurant was courting visitors around then, and is worth knowing. We did not treat them as commissioned copy, though: no two share a block of hashtags, they run in different orders, nine of the thirteen quote prices, and two of them complain about a dish. What separates a real meal from a written one is the record of eating, not the tags — so all thirteen are counted. Three posts declare a sponsorship. Two of them do it with a single tag tucked into a link block at the bottom; the third says in the body that she was comped but comes here anyway. Four state that they paid, and the remaining twenty-two say nothing.
  • Not one writer looked at the toilet and said so. The phrase "separate men's and women's" appears in two posts, and in both it is part of a copied facility list, so we counted neither. Whether it is inside the restaurant or shared with the building, and whether there is an accessible one, nobody says. Twenty-nine people ate here and none of them mentioned it — which is silence, not an answer.
  • Several posts say which floor the restaurant is on and none says anything about steps. The address includes the unit number on the ground floor, and several place it on the main road at the foot of the building, so that much is settled. Getting there from the car is another matter: one writer took a lift up from the parking level, one parked in the basement and went up, one says the parking is on the second and third floors. So there is a change of level between car and table, and nobody says whether the lift is the only way to make it.
  • Only one post describes arriving without a car. Writing in February 2025, she notes that the station is close enough to make this easy, and that as someone who walks everywhere it matters to her. Three give a distance: 490 metres from exit 8 in two of them, and a short walk in the third. One gives directions — out of exit 8, straight on past the footbridge, left at the first junction. Everyone else drove: eleven of them.
  • The afternoon break is given as starting at either twenty or half past three, and there seems to be a reason. Twenty-two posts say twenty past, four say half past — and the two that separate the two numbers explain it: the break runs from half past three, and last orders for lunch are at twenty past. Either way, if you are coming for lunch, get your order in by twenty past three.
  • There is a second branch. A February 2025 post reports that one is about to open in Gwanggyo; a June 2025 one says it has; posts from June and September 2026 mention it as a going concern. This page is about the Yeongtong branch only — none of the twenty-nine has been to the other, and whether they are alike we do not know. One writer says she intends to find out.
  • Only one of the thirty posts was dropped, automatically, for carrying another restaurant's tag. The remaining twenty-nine all record a real meal, and they are twenty-nine different people; no blog wrote twice. Five complaints appear, and we record them as written: the ragù is thin on savouriness, the abalone risotto is salty and does not taste of abalone, the steak is heavily seasoned — those three come from one diner at one table, who concludes that the seasoning here is heavy across the board — the squid-ink risotto is bland, and the gnocchi less chewy than expected. The seasoning is where the accounts most directly contradict each other: one writer finds it heavy, several describe the food as notably unaggressive.
