Sanko

산코 Sanko A signless Korean drinking house a short walk from Uijeongbu station, best known for the torched cheese-and-potato plate it puts down free

Data as of · Published ·

Sanko is a Korean drinking house on Pyeonghwa-ro 474beon-gil, five to ten minutes on foot from exit 7 at Uijeongbu station, on the back side of the furniture street. There is no sign. Three writers say you will walk past it; two tell you to aim for the Dongsan Sikdang opposite. It opened in December 2025 in the room that used to hold an indoor pojangmacha called Ppalgan Mahura, and went from soft opening to proper trading on the 24th. The list is mostly Korean drinking food — a shin-of-beef broth pot, tofu with perilla oil and kimchi, a soybean rice stew — with one Japanese dish, the sukiyaki. The draught is Kirin, and there are Korean craft spirits. Six in the evening until one in the morning, two on Fridays and Saturdays, closed Sundays. Two writers give the same reading of the name: the moment when the drink has loosened you but not yet taken you. The posts we read run from December 2025 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours

What sets it apart

  1. The most written-about plate here is the one nobody pays for. Sit down and a dish of steamed potato arrives — cut up, topped with cheddar and sugar, blowtorched — with mild green chillies dressed in soybean paste beside it, and mayonnaise and more sugar to dip into. It can be refilled once per table: three writers say so and a fourth took them up on it. Several react with some version of "you would not believe this comes free," and one says she would go back for that alone. One writer reports it is also sold as a paid dish; no post gives that price.
  2. The room holds both kinds of seat. Two writers describe an L-shaped counter at the back, more counter seats along the window, and about five tables in between; three mention tables for two to four, and several mention the bar. Five write specifically about the window seats — two say the window is opened when the weather is good, and one found them all taken. One group of seven was told that tables are pushed together for a party if you book ahead.
  3. They disagree about the size. Six call it small, snug or cramped; one says that from outside it reads as a tiny izakaya and turns out roomier than expected. That may be a question of where you sit rather than a real contradiction — one of the six was at a two-top and had to move the bottles off it, and in the same post guessed the room holds about twenty-five. One writer ties the size directly to the three-hour limit on Friday and Saturday nights.
  4. Weekends and weeknights are not the same place. One writer put her name down at nine on a Saturday, waited outside for more than half an hour, got cold, took shelter in the café next door and got in after ten. Another's first attempt, on a Friday or a weekend, ended at a different bar; she came back on a quiet night and sat straight down. Weeknights read differently: one found exactly one table left after work, another booked for six on a Tuesday and watched the room fill inside half an hour. Fridays and Saturdays carry a three-hour limit — two writers report it, and one guesses it only bites when people are waiting.
  5. Several things get topped up if you ask. The free potato once per table; the broth in the shin-of-beef pot, which one writer says came back generously refilled when she asked. Another kept ordering ice on a hot night until the staff started bringing it unprompted, and one says the owner noticed she was only eating the leafy part of the vegetables and brought more of just that.
  6. Some of them book. One phones ahead to check for a table, one booked a weeknight, and one was in a party of seven whose friend reserved. Three mention booking through Naver, but two of them put it in the copied information block at the top, so we cannot say they used it. Two note a Korean-spirit coupon for booking that way; one of them adds that it did not exist when she went.
  7. The draught is Kirin Ichiban. Seven writers single it out and one calls it the house signature — though one says it has poured a little differently each of the three times she has had it, and she now skips the beer. Four note a list of Korean craft spirits beyond the usual soju and highballs, and two mention a drinks fridge that means it comes out cold.
  8. A lot of them come back. Eight posts are return visits, one of them twice inside a month, and seven more say they intend to return. Only one writer states outright that it was her first time — which does not make the rest returners; many simply never say. One would-be returner notes that the place got busy enough in the meantime that she has not managed it.
  9. It is described both ways. Five writers call it a room for talking rather than shouting; one found the street quiet and the inside loud and chaotic with the crowd. One of the quiet five had booked a Tuesday; another went in December while it was still a soft opening. The one who found it loud went on a full night. It reads like a question of when you go.
  10. Two writers land on opposite sides. One says it is neither cheap nor expensive and the portions are absurd; the other, posting her receipt, says the portions are a little thin for the money and it suits light drinking better than a proper feed. She found the yakisoba a single portion at ₩18,000, and reckoned the rice stew held barely half a bowl of rice before she ordered another. Two writers say the seasoning runs salty, which is good for drinking.

Parking

2 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot2 of 26 posts

Nobody parked. Close to ten posts say there is no parking, but nearly all of those are the emoji information block at the top, copied from the Naver listing. Two writers put it in their own words: one says there is none and public transport is the easy way, the other recommends the public car park nearby. Four mention the station car park or parking in the lanes. None of them says where they actually left a car, what it cost, or whether there was space. One post says "limited parking" instead of none, contradicting the rest — and that too is a copied header line.

Getting inside

Second flooryes 0 · no 1 (of 26 posts read)
Step at the entrance1 of 26 posts
Toilet inside5 of 26 posts

It is on the ground floor. The licence says so, and one writer notes in her own words that it sits on the ground floor of a residential block, which is why the street outside is quiet. The "1층" in the other posts is the address line the check-in widget printed, not something anyone looked at. No post mentions steps or a landing — whether there is a rise at the door is something we do not know.

Not one writer says whether you can get in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. Across twenty-seven posts the words wheelchair, pushchair and ramp never appear, and nobody looked at the door width or a step at the entrance. The one threshold anybody mentions is not the front door — the men's toilet is outside the unit, and the staff warned one writer to watch the rise in the floor on the way there. Six writers call the room small and one found a two-top crowded, so the aisles are probably not generous — but that is our inference, not anyone's observation.

The toilets are split by sex and they are not in the same place. Five writers saw this for themselves: the women's is inside, by the till; the men's is out of the unit, in the building. One was told the inside one is women-only. Two call it cramped, both in the spirit of being glad it is indoors at all; one found it spotless. No post says whether there is an accessible toilet. Three further posts carry "separate men's and women's" in the copied information block at the top, which we did not count.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Four writers say how you get here without a car, and no two agree on the distance: 364 metres from exit 7, five minutes, seven to ten, seven to eight. All four agree it is walkable. Only one writer says anything about getting home — she missed the last train and was collected by her partner. For a place that closes at one or two in the morning, that single line is everything the corpus contains about late transport.
  • Not one post declares a sponsorship. We read the bodies and the hashtag blocks at the end: nothing about being given the meal, joining a tasting panel or being paid for the copy. Five state the opposite — that they paid — and two of those post the receipt. But twenty-seven posts are twenty-four people: one writer contributed three and another two. And one writer says plainly that the place is run by her fiancé's friend. Seven posts describe something sent out free — torched tomato, matcha ice cream, a second helping of the potato, ice — so the house evidently gives things away fairly often.
  • The menu moved over these ten months. A writer who went during the December 2025 soft opening returned after the proper launch and found it trimmed. A March 2026 post reports that the white-kimchi stew was off and a grilled tofu with perilla pesto had appeared at ₩11,000. A July post says the mala noodles used to come with spring-onion kimchi and no longer do. There is no sign of prices rising: the same dishes carry the same figures in February and in July. Still, of the thirty-two things the posts name, we know the price of twenty-one; for the other eleven there is an account of eating them and no number. Four of the priced lines run the other way — the figure was copied off the menu board and nobody says they ate it.
  • Nobody writes about coming alone. Four look at the counter and say it would suit solo drinking — and all four were looking at it from a table with company. Not one post is written by someone who actually sat there on their own, so we cannot say what that is like. Of those who say who they came with, eleven came with friends, four on a date, and two in a party of four or more.
