Compiled from 21 blog posts read in fullSources →

Gontran Cherrier's Jeongja-station branch is a French bakery-café occupying the first two floors of the Hotel Bliss, directly outside exit 4 of Jeongja station. The counter and the bread are downstairs with a few tables; upstairs is larger, and the lavatories are up there too. It opens at eight in the morning and closes at ten at night, which makes it one of the earliest doors in the neighbourhood. Bread is baked through the day in a kitchen you can see from the tables, and the coffee comes with a choice of three beans: nutty, bright, or decaf. Beyond the bread and cakes there are salads, paninis and sandwiches, enough for a meal. The chain carries the name of the French baker who founded it — and there are at least two other branches in Jeongja-dong alone. The posts we read run from January 2025 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. People come here to study, and there are no sockets. Four writers recommend it for exactly that, and two praise the table and chair heights — one compares them to a Starbucks. But two state flatly that there is nowhere to plug in, and one draws the conclusion: not for a laptop or a tablet, fine if you are working from a book. Come charged.
  2. The baking happens in the room. Four writers describe watching trays come out and the shelves refill while they sat — one arrived early enough that the display was still filling, another came at weekend lunchtime and found them still at it. Three mention the smell of butter hitting them at the door.
  3. There are tables out front, with yellow chairs. Several writers say they would rather sit there in good weather, and one has seen people stop at the terrace with a dog for a quick coffee. Whether a dog may come inside, nobody writes — the terrace is all anyone reports.
  4. What settles this is the hour. One writer went up to the second floor just after lunch and came straight back down, beaten by the music and the crowd; another found the room packed and far too loud to concentrate, and blamed the shortage of other cafés nearby. Against that, a nine-in-the-evening visitor found it slack, and early-morning visitors found it quiet even at the weekend. One writer puts a time on it: busy until two, comfortable after.

  1. They do not agree about what things cost here. One writer finds 4,800 won for an americano unremarkable and another thinks the sandwiches priced to their quality — but three name a specific item as dear: 9,000 for a cup of shaved ice, 7,800 for a slice of pound cake, 11,000 for a slice of cake. The last of those would rather have spent it at a chain. The complaints cluster on the dessert counter, not the bread.
  2. The shop makes it easy to carry things out. There is a self-packing station downstairs, and the service counter holds water, cutlery, paper cups, napkins — and food gloves. One writer explains the gloves: a sign says the breads made without improvers keep their texture longer if torn by hand rather than cut. Two describe leaving with what they could not finish, one a sandwich half, one a zip bag of bread.
  3. A panini or sandwich with an americano costs less than the two apart. One writer puts the ham-and-cheese set at 13,500 against 15,800 separately. The sets run from 10,500 to 14,000; a latte instead of the americano adds 500, decaf 1,000. One writer notes the brunch window: eight in the morning to two in the afternoon.
  4. Five of these are written by regulars — people who say outright that they come here often, or lately, or all the time. One of them used to go to the other Jeongja branch and now goes only to this one. The people who merely say they will be back are counted separately.
  5. The shop dresses for the season. A December visitor found a tree at the door; a February one liked how little it took to keep the winter feeling going. In summer, one writer reports, the entrance carries large signs for shaved ice and watermelon juice.

Parking

2 posts say you can park; 4 say you cannot. We leave the disagreement standing rather than picking a side.

Posts saying you can park2 of 21 posts
Posts saying you cannot4 of 21 posts

The people who actually looked do not agree. One writer, in August 2026: *you'll see when you get there — there is nowhere to park*, and use the municipal lot. Three others also say there is no car park and point to the park-and-ride at the station. But a March 2026 writer says that while there is no car park, two or three cars can stand in front for a short visit, and a December 2025 writer records *room for exactly one car.* So: no car park, and two reports of a space or two at the kerb — not something to count on. Lines simply copied from the Naver listing are not in this tally.

Getting inside

Second floor16 of 21 posts
Toilet inside9 of 21 posts
Separate restrooms3 of 21 posts

Two floors, doing different jobs. The bread and the till are downstairs; there are tables on both levels, but upstairs is the bigger room. Several writers find it calmer and more private, and five mention the windows — trees on one side, the station street on the other. One picks downstairs purely to avoid the stairs. The lavatories are upstairs only.

Nobody wrote about the doorway or about wheelchairs. Across all twenty-one posts the words wheelchair, pushchair, ramp, step and threshold never appear. What the posts do establish is that you enter on the ground floor and reach the second by stairs; whether there is a lift, nobody says. Read that together with the lavatories being upstairs only — there is none on the entrance floor. This is an absence of evidence, not an answer.

The lavatories are inside the shop, on the second floor. Nine writers place them there, three note that men's and women's are separate, and five call them clean — one says the separation plus the state of them raised her opinion of the place. Nobody describes going out into a building corridor. Whether there is an accessible cubicle or a baby-change table, nobody says.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 7 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • More than one Gontran Cherrier stands in Jeongja-dong, and reviews of the others arrive under this one's name. The writers say so themselves — two branches, three branches, and "the station one and the Jeongja one are not the same place." This is the one outside exit 4, on the first two floors of the Hotel Bliss, on 031-716-8688, with no car park. Of the twenty-nine posts we read, two checked in here but described somewhere else: one a shop on the corner of a different apartment complex that validates parking, the other at a different street number with a different phone, a different station exit and underground parking. Both were dropped. When you search, check the exit number and the phone against what you find.
  • Twenty-one posts, not twenty-nine. Two of the eight we set aside are the wrong-branch ones above. Of the rest: one is a verbatim scrape of the Naver listing, down to "455 visitors said the bread is good," with a fortune-telling advert at the bottom; one is a tour of twenty bakeries in which this shop gets a single line; one is a round-up of Christmas cakes whose section heading names a different branch; one is an essay comparing flour, in which the branch actually checked is the other one and nobody visits; one is a retrospective on financiers, dropped entirely. The last is a review of the hotel this shop sits under — which is how we know it occupies the ground floor of the Hotel Bliss — but its writer signs off saying she'll try the bakery next time.
  • Come out of exit 4 and it is there. Twelve writers call it easy to reach without a car, six of them putting it directly outside that exit. The stated walk ranges from one minute to five — but the posts that give 90 or 92 metres are quoting the map, not pacing it. One writer says she found it without looking at her phone; another places a Starbucks across the road. Assume you will see it when you come up the steps. One post says exit 3, but its address and phone belonged to a different branch, so it is not in our count.
  • Not one writer reports queueing. What they report is the room filling: people coming in without a break on a weekday afternoon; a crowd at lunchtime; every seat taken by about three o'clock; and one writer who found nowhere at all to sit. Nobody records a waiting time. Two who came early on a weekend morning found it uncrowded.
  • Come late and what you wanted may be gone. A five-o'clock visitor found the shelves thinned and the sandwich section all but cleared — one croissant sandwich left, and she did not get it. Another found several sandwiches sold out; a third says they looked plentiful but were all gone. The writer who came for a kouign-amann found two and took both. Early visitors have the opposite problem: the bread is still coming out. For the full range, late morning to early afternoon.
  • No post in our count declares a sponsorship. Eight of the twenty-one say they paid their own way. Two say someone else paid — in one a junior colleague took the family out to buy the child bread, in the other an acquaintance bought the bread while suggesting the place as something to write up. Neither calls itself sponsored, but both say on the page that the writer did not pay. The remaining eleven say nothing either way, which is not the same as having paid.
  • Ask before you go on a holiday. Sixteen of the eighteen posts that give hours say eight to ten, daily. Two say half past ten on weekdays and eleven at weekends — both from 2025, with posts either side of them saying ten, and one of the two carrying a phone number belonging to another branch. That looks like copied information, though we cannot prove it. Not one post names a closing day, and one writer says only that the shop's rest days seem to move and advises checking before a public holiday. No mid-day break or last order appears anywhere in the twenty-one.
