Syaomara

샤오마라 Xiao mala reads as 'little mala' (小麻辣); one post notes the skewers and cup malatang are made small enough to carry around.

Compiled from 7 blog posts read in fullSources →

A mala skewer and cup-malatang shop on the ground floor of Sky Tower in Okjeong's central shopping district, Yangju — a franchise branch that opened in early 2026. You fill a basket from the showcase, pick spice, seasoning and mala levels, pay by the piece, and get the skewers fried and served in a cup. Skewers run 500 to 4,200 won each, malatang is 2,000 won per 100 g, and the minimum order is 4,000 won; receipts in the posts came to 7,380 and 11,000 won. We read 8 posts from 1 February to 21 May 2026; 7 describe a visit (two of them takeout), and one delivery post was not counted.

What sets it apart

  1. Skewers come out fried, and four posts say they were crisp — the cheese rice cake crisp outside and chewy inside, the cereal chicken crisp and moist, and the tofu skin crunchy in a way it never is in soup.
  2. Spice runs from level 0 to 3. Three posts found it hot and one did not — that one ordered level 2 and called it about as hot as Shin Ramyun, while a level-3 order came with a warning for mala beginners. One post relays the shop's own guide: level 1 is like Jin Ramen, level 2 like Shin Ramyun.
  3. Four posts call it cheap. One, after 7,380 won worth of skewers, said it was not filling enough to call great value.
  4. Three posts describe the shop as clean, pointing to the plain white interior and the sorted bins by the door for skewers, general waste, plastic and cans.
3 more
  1. It looks like a takeout counter, but three posts say there is seating — one lists one-, two- and four-person tables, and two found it roomier than expected.
  2. Two posts note that both the ordering steps and the self-bar are explained on signs. The self-bar has chilli oil, hot seasoning, scallion, mala oil, black vinegar and sesame; one post says the sesame-peanut sauce is chilled separately and costs 500 won extra.
  3. Three posts mention a Naver receipt-review offer: write a review and pick one free skewer — enoki-tofu roll, tofu skin or corn-cheese ball.

Parking

1 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park1 of 7 posts

Only one post speaks from experience about parking: Sky Tower's lot is roomy with a two-lane entrance, though that day she parked at another building. Other posts copy a note about one hour in the basement garage, and one copies that there is no dedicated lot and to use a nearby public one.

Where it is

Map showing where Syaomara is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

The address says ground floor, but no post describes the floor or any stairs from a visit.

No one mentions a step at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. That means we don't know, not that it is fine or not.

No post says where the toilet is or whether it is separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 8 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • One post (28 February) heard that alcohol sales began on 13 February and lists two Harbin beers for 5,500 won; earlier posts mention no alcohol. One April post says a pork-skin skewer had just been added.
  • Opening hours appear only as copied blocks and changed over time: three early-February 2026 posts give weekdays 12:00–21:00 and weekends 13:00–22:00 (one says 22:30), a 28 February post gives Mon–Thu 12:00–22:00 and Fri–Sun 12:00–24:00, and an 11 April post says 13:00–24:00 daily. Check before going.
  • No post describes getting there by bus or subway; they only say it sits in the middle of the shopping district under a big sign.
  • No one reports waiting. One post found a single group there on a weekday afternoon, and two say meat skewers sell out early. That is an absence of reports, not proof of no wait.
  • Company varies: two posts went with friends, one with a partner, one with a sister, and one drove over for takeout. No one wrote about eating there alone.
  • The phone number (0507-1395-2455) appears in only one delivery post, and no one says whether reservations are taken.
  • What a meal costs depends on how many skewers you take. Only two receipts appear, 7,380 and 11,000 won, and the 7,380-won one did not fill its writer up — too little to say what a full meal costs.
