Sushi Kamui

스시카무이 Kamui is an Ainu word for a god or spirit; none of the posts say why the house took the name.

Compiled from 11 blog posts read in fullSources →

A sushi and omakase bar tucked into a residential lane in the R6 district of Okjeong, Yangju, open for dinner only. We read 12 posts from November 2024 to October 2026, and all 12 describe an actual visit. The omakase comes in tiers starting at 35,000 won, with most diners on the 50,000 or 70,000 won course; there is also a sashimi set (27,000 won) and sushi platters. You sit at the bar and are handed aged fish and nigiri piece by piece, moving through abalone steamed in sake and the house eel nigiri to a shrimp-and-egg castella at the end. No post mentions a move, a closure, or a price change.

Rows without a count: 3 of 6 posts.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. All seating is at the counter; five posts say so. One describes an L-shaped bar with no partitions, where the owner spaces guests apart; another says that with only bar seating it suits two or three people better than a family gathering. Three note you can watch the kitchen from your seat, and two say the room is small.
  2. Six posts call it good value and none call it expensive. One diner on the 70,000-won course reckoned the same meal would cost upwards of 150,000 won in Seoul; another called the 35,000-won course the best value around; a third counted about twenty items on the 50,000-won course.
  3. Three posts say they left very full. In one, the owner asked at the start how much each guest eats and sized the rice accordingly, then switched to fish without rice when the diner said they were full; another halved the rice and was still stuffed.
  4. Four posts booked ahead, through Naver or by phone. One explains that a deposit confirms the booking and can be applied to the bill or refunded; another booked the 35,000-won tier by phone because it is not offered on Naver. Two posts walked in without a booking and were seated.

  1. Five posts speak well of the owner-chef. Several mention him naming each fish as he serves it; one was lent an umbrella in a sudden downpour; another says he keeps quiet so as not to interrupt conversation.

Parking

4 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park4 of 11 posts

Parking is a few spaces in front; four posts say so, three putting it at one or two cars and one at two or three. One diner found a space; they also noted the house covers 2,000 won at the paid lot opposite if the front is full. One post calls parking the main drawback, and two suggest a taxi or public transport if you plan to drink.

Where it is

Map showing where Sushi Kamui is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

No post describes which floor the shop is on from experience; only the address says ground floor.

We don't know whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in; nobody wrote about it, which is not the same as there being none. Five posts do note that all seats are at the bar.

The only mention of the toilet is one post noting a drawn map showing where it is, so we don't know whether it is inside the shop.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Opinions on the rice seasoning split one against one: one post found it just right, another found the eel nigiri a little salty after asking for less rice.
  • Six posts give the same hours, 17:00 to 22:30 and closed Sundays, and three add a 21:00 last order. All of these sit in information headers copied into the posts, so we cannot say anyone checked them in person. One post says lunch at noon can be booked; no other post mentions it.
  • Two posts give the same phone number, 010-3146-4452, and one lists Naver, CatchTable and phone as ways to book. Prices vary by omakase tier; only one post mentions a 100,000-won tier, and a Monday-to-Wednesday dinner discount appears in one post only, so neither is confirmed.
  • No post describes getting there by bus or subway. One diner walked; two recommend a taxi or public transport; two warn the lane is hard to find and suggest following a map.
  • No post mentions waiting for a seat; that means nobody wrote about it, not that there is never a wait. Two posts walked in and were seated straight away.
  • Only a few posts say who they came with: two with family (a son's birthday, a mother) and one with a husband. None describe going with friends or alone, though several mention anniversaries and birthdays.
