Pangkkeo

팡꺼 Pangkkeo is the Korean reading of the Chinese 胖哥 (pang ge), 'chubby big brother'; one post says it is the owner-chef's own nickname for himself.

Compiled from 23 blog posts read in fullSources →

Pangkkeo is a Chinese pub in a shopping arcade at the Sechang Ribe House apartments in Okjeong-dong, Yangju. One chef does all the cooking; people order several dishes (dim sum, chilli yuringi chicken, garlic-scape noodles, hongshaorou) to share over baijiu or baijiu highballs. Prices in 2026 posts: garlic-scape noodles 9,000 won, dim sum platter 12,000, yuringi 22,000, hongshaorou 30,000. Today there is a bar plus an inner room of tables; a February 2025 post describes the earlier, smaller shop (two four-tops, one two-top, an eight-seat bar), and posts from January 2026 on say it took over the unit next door. Two posts say it is on the ground floor. We read 30 posts from February 2025 to October 2026; three were about other places and set aside, and 25 describe an actual visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Expect to wait. Nine posts waited or were turned away. The waits they recorded: 30 minutes (three groups ahead), 30 minutes, 40 minutes, an hour, an hour and a half. The longest wait was on a list where you leave your phone number and get a call; they got in at 9:30 pm. One post arrived around 5:15, just after the 5 pm opening, and sat straight down.
  2. One post mentions chairs outside to wait on.
  3. Four posts say you can book, but only for seats before 7 pm; one was told 'no bookings after seven'. A long-time regular says that unless you're there at the 5 pm opening, you need a reservation.
  4. Seven posts say food is slow because a single chef cooks everything; times noted were 'a basic 20 to 30 minutes' and about 20 minutes. Dishes come out one by one as they are ready. One post disagreed: he was quick, and the wait was shorter than expected.
7 more
  1. Zha cai and a tangy wood-ear mushroom salad come free when you sit down; 19 posts mention them, several noting the wood-ear is unusual.
  2. Six posts say you top up the free sides yourself at a self-service bar.
  3. Two posts found free tea at the self-service corner — jasmine both times.
  4. Eight posts describe both a bar in front of the kitchen and a room of tables. A March 2026 post counted a bar and one three-seat table out front, and four four-tops and one two-top inside; a June post counted about six four-tops. One post found the bar lively and the inner room calmer.
  5. Two posts note the bar wraps around an open kitchen, so you can watch the chef cook.
  6. Nine posts call the frying crisp, mostly the yuringi chicken and the fried aubergine.
  7. Six posts went as a couple; others went with friends or with a baby.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 2 (of 23 posts read)
Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 23 posts read)

Nobody mentions a step at the door or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller — that means we don't know, not that there's none. One post found the floor tiles slippery on a snowy day, with warning signs posted.

One post says the toilet is outside the shop, in the building (clean, but bring tissue, and no soap). Separate men's and women's toilets appear only in a copied listing, so we did not count it.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 25 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • The room has grown. A February 2025 post counted two four-tops, one two-top and an eight-seat bar; posts from January 2026 on say it took over the unit next door. Even so, no post calls it spacious, and three say it is not big (one before the expansion, two after).
  • Prices have risen. Yuringi was 20,000 won in March and May 2026 posts and 22,000 in July and August; fried aubergine went from 16,000 (May–June) to 18,000 (July–August); garlic-scape noodles from 7,900 in February 2025 to 9,000 in 2026. No post gives a per-person total, since people share several dishes. None called it expensive; one said prices were ordinary for Chinese dishes.
  • Fifteen posts give opening hours, mostly copied listings: 14 say 5 pm to 1 am, and 10 say closed Sundays. One post says 5 to 11 pm and one says open daily. Last order was midnight in posts up to April 2026 and 11:30 pm from May 2026.
  • Most posts give the phone number as 0507-1432-7925; one February 2025 post gave 010-3102-7925. Bookings are reportedly only for seats before 7 pm, so call ahead.
  • Only one post gives a bus route: a 7-minute walk from the Hoeamcho (buses 77, 80, 81) or Segwangsa (80, 101) stops. Another says it is a 15–20 minute walk from the Okjeong central shopping area. No one describes coming by subway.
  • Opinions differ on noise: two posts found it loud (one called the bar 'rowdy'), one found it quiet enough for a calm meal.
  • One February 2025 post was written by a nearby shop promoting itself, and one January 2026 post mostly repeats search keywords and mentions only a single highball. We counted both as visits but leaned on neither.
