Janggun Sioyakki Okjeong-jeom

장군시오야끼 옥정점 Janggun means 'general', the military rank; sioyaki (from the Japanese shio-yaki, salt-grilling) is the name the Gangwon coast uses for thin-sliced pork belly stir-grilled with seasoned shredded scallion.

The Okjeong branch of a sioyaki chain from the Gangwon coast (Gangneung, Donghae), in the R6 shopping block of Okjeong, Yangju. Frozen thin-sliced pork belly (or beef) goes on the table grill, staff pile seasoned shredded scallion on top and toss it together, and the leftovers become fried rice. The scallion comes in three heat levels. Three posts give 14,000 won per portion; fried rice is 2,000 won and extra cheese 3,000 won. Two October 2026 posts ordered a set with stew and fried rice. We read 20 posts from 29 December 2025 to 20 October 2026; 2 were about other branches and were set aside, leaving 18 visits to this one.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. You don't cook here. Fourteen posts say the owner or staff grilled the meat, mixed in the scallion and fried the rice for them. One post (a 15 August 2026 visit) differs: it expected tableside cooking but the dish arrived already finished.
  2. Posts keep calling the room roomy: five say it is spacious or the tables are well apart, six say there is plenty of seating. One counts 7 to 8 tables, two count 8 to 9. One notes chairs on one side and a padded bench on the other.
  3. Basic banchan arrive at the start; more comes from a self-serve bar. Six posts went back for more or had staff top it up — one fetched dongchimi twice, another three plates of cabbage salad. Five posts call the bar or the room clean, two of them mentioning sterilised cutlery.
  4. Mostly couples: six posts went with a spouse or partner, four with family (parents, children, a sibling), one with friends and one as a party of four.

  1. Four posts found the portions generous — one says thin-sliced meat looks small but turns out to be plenty. One post found the meat ran short and noted there is no extra-meat option, only extra scallion.

Parking

7 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park7 of 17 posts

There is parking right in front, but only a few spaces. Seven posts parked there or saw the spaces; five gave a count — 3, 4, 2, 2 to 3, and two spaces free on a Friday evening. Three posts suggest walking because the R6 block gets congested; one mentions a public car park just opposite.

Getting inside

Step-free access1 of 17 posts
Toilet inside2 of 17 posts

We don't know about floors or steps from experience: the address says ground floor, unit 101, but no post describes going in.

One post brought a stroller in without trouble thanks to the space. Nobody mentions a step, ramp or wheelchair at the door — that means unrecorded, not absent. The same post saw no high chairs.

Two posts found the toilet inside the shop (one calls it clean); a third thought so without using it. Separate men's and women's toilets appear only in a copied listing, which we don't count.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Opinions differ on greasiness: three posts say the scallion keeps it from feeling heavy, one found it oily enough to want a soda. Two February 2026 posts found no zero-sugar cola.
  • The review perk changed: a 1 February 2026 post regretted there was none, while a 15 April post says a photo review earns a free fried-rice coupon. No later post mentions it, so we don't know if it still runs.
  • Waiting seems to depend on timing. One post walked straight in around 5:30 pm on a weekend but saw a queue on the way out. Three had no wait — at opening, around 4 pm, and just after 5 pm on a weekday. One found it fairly busy at 8 pm. Reservations appear only in copied listings and hearsay.
  • No post describes getting there by bus or train; one only notes it sits a little off the main road inside the R6 block.
  • Opening hours were copied differently over time. December 2025: daily 11:00–22:00. Three February 2026 posts: 12:00–22:00, closed Mondays (two add a 15:00–17:00 break). March–April: Tue–Thu 16:00–23:00, Fri–Sun 12:00–23:00. Later posts give weekday openings of 15:00, 16:00 or 17:00. One 20 October 2026 post says closed Wednesdays, Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri 17:00–23:00, weekends 12:00–23:00, last order 22:00 — until August every post said Mondays. Mostly copied listings; check before going.
  • Prices come only from April–July 2026 posts: 14,000 won per sioyaki portion, 2,000 won fried rice, 3,000 won cheese, 5,000 won kimchi noodles, 4,000 won soju. Two portions plus one fried rice comes to just over 30,000 won, though no post totals a meal. No one gives the price of the set or the beef version. Nobody calls it expensive; two posts call the soju and sides cheap.
  • Three posts copy the same phone number, 0507-1416-1393. Reservations are mentioned only in copied listings and hearsay; no post actually booked.
  • One post says that when the room filled up the smoke stung their eyes, as if ventilation was poor; no other post mentions smoke.
