GOKUTEN

고쿠텐 옥정점 Gokuten Okjeongjeom Gokuten joins the Japanese koku (rich, savoury depth) and ten (heaven); a board in the shop reads it as 'heavenly umami'.

Compiled from 30 blog posts read in fullSources →

Gokuten Okjeong is a tendon (tempura-over-rice) shop on the ground floor of Daegil Plaza in Yangju's Okjeong central shopping district. We read 30 posts dated 30 May to 31 August 2026, and all 30 describe an actual meal. The most-ordered bowl is the Gokuten-don, with two shrimp, squid, mushroom, eggplant, kabocha, shishito pepper and laver tempura plus an onsen egg (21 posts). Next is the eel tendon, topped with a whole fried eel (14). Through the 12 August posts the Gokuten-don was 12,000 won and the eel tendon 16,500 won; one post from 31 August lists 13,000 and 17,000. Eighteen posts describe a counter facing the kitchen alongside two- and four-person tables. Wasabi, pickled ginger and green-onion kimchi come only if you ask.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. The kitchen is open, so you can watch the frying. Fourteen posts mention the open kitchen, and three say they actually saw each order fried as it came in. Lines like 'fresh oil twice a day' and 'tare aged 48 hours' are copied from the shop's wall notices, and we do not treat them as evidence.
  2. Food takes a while. Six posts say so; the two that give a time say 10 to 15 minutes and about 20 minutes.
  3. It is not counter-only. Eighteen posts describe both counter seats and tables; the two that counted put it at two four-person tables, three two-person tables and the counter. One post warns there are few four-person tables and suggests booking.
  4. The room is small: four posts say it is not large, one says it is roomy. Two posts note a high ceiling that keeps it from feeling cramped.
5 more
  1. Seven posts mention high chairs, and one writer went with her children and says they ate well.
  2. Sixteen posts call the portions generous, and several describe the tempura piling up on the lid. One writer ran a little short of rice and another found the standard rice just right; several note a wall sign saying extra rice and miso soup are free.
  3. Six posts say the eel or shrimp had no fishy taste; none said otherwise.
  4. The tare katsu is on the thin side: two posts say so outright, while two others call either the katsu or the eel thick.
  5. Nine posts mention a receipt-review offer of udon or a drink; one writer actually got the udon that way.

Parking

6 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park6 of 30 posts

Parking is in the building's basement garage. Six posts say they drove and parked there, two of them mentioning two hours free. Three found plenty of space, one of them at noon on a weekend. One post found it full on a Friday evening and parked at the nearby lake library instead.

Getting inside

Step-free access1 of 30 posts
Toilet insideyes 0 · no 2 (of 30 posts read)
Separate restrooms1 of 30 posts

It is at street level, not in a basement: four posts say from their visit that it is on the ground floor, one adding that it is right next to a GS25.

No post says whether there is a step at the entrance, and none mentions a wheelchair. The only evidence is one post noting a stroller inside that did not feel cramped and a spot by the door to park strollers. No one mentions an elevator either; it is on the ground floor, but no one confirmed step-free access.

The toilets are outside the shop. Two posts say you go out the back door, opposite the entrance, and enter a code; one of them says the men's and women's toilets are separate.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Prices appear to have gone up in August. Posts up to 12 August list the Gokuten-don at 12,000 won and the eel tendon at 16,500; one post from 31 August lists 13,000 and 17,000. The mini udon went from 2,500 won (5 August) to 3,000 (17 August), and the two-bowl set with two drinks from 31,000 (17 July) to 33,000 (17 August). Only one post shows the higher bowl prices so far, so check at the shop. Nobody called it expensive; four posts called it reasonable or good value.
  • The menu has changed: a writer who first went in March found two jumbo chicken katsu bowls newly added when she returned on 15 June. The shop has not moved; all 30 posts give the same address, Daegil Plaza unit 108.
  • Opinions on heat are split two to two: one post found the shishito tempura hot and another found the curry udon spicy, while two said the shishito was not hot.
  • Most found it not salty: six posts said the seasoning was right, two found it salty, and one even added soy sauce because the rice tasted a bit bland.
  • No one went by bus or train. One post gives a route (bus 80 from Deokjeong or Yangju station to the Okjeong central shopping stop, then a two-minute walk), but that writer drove.
  • No one reports actually queuing. Three posts walked straight in (weekend lunch, at opening, a weekday evening). One arrived at opening on a weekday and saw the room fill instantly at noon with a line about to form. Nobody timed a noon wait.
  • No one went alone. Many say the counter suits solo diners, but all of them were there with someone. Eleven went with a spouse or partner, five with family, one with a coworker.
  • No post reports opening hours from its own visit; all copy the posted information. Most agree on 11:00 to 21:00, a weekday break from 15:00 to 16:30 (none at weekends), last orders at 14:30 and 20:30, and Thursdays closed. One post gives the break as 15:00 to 16:00, one gives 11:00 to 20:30 daily, and one says only Saturday has no break. One writer was turned away on earlier tries because ingredients had run out.
  • Ten posts copy the same phone number, 0507-1355-4806. Two say Naver booking is available (one to four people, recommended for groups of three or more); no one actually booked.
  • Many posts follow the same promotional template, repeating the same five hashtags and the shop's wall text in the same order. Three disclose sponsorship, one says it was a reviewer invitation, four say they paid, and the other 22 say nothing. One post notes it is a chain.
