Daeseong Samgyetang

대성삼계탕 Samgyetang is ginseng chicken soup, a whole young chicken stuffed with sticky rice; Daeseong is the house's proper name.

Compiled from 7 blog posts read in fullSources →

A samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) restaurant on the second floor of a building at 143 Okjeong-ro, Okjeong-dong, Yangju. Plain samgyetang is 16,000 won, the herbal version 20,000, herbal with abalone 25,000, spicy braised chicken 17,000 and chicken gomtang 10,000. Everything comes in earthenware pots, and you top up kimchi and kkakdugi yourself at a self-serve corner. We read 9 posts from April 2025 to July 2026. Two were about a different restaurant with the same name in Dongducheon, so we set them aside, and all of the remaining 7 describe actual visits. One post says the house used to sell only samgyetang and later added the braised chicken and gomtang, though both already appear in an April 2025 post.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Six posts say they went back for more kimchi and kkakdugi. One went to the self-serve corner three times, and another asked the owner, who filled the dish right up. Two posts say the kimchi is made in-house, but that is hearsay and we didn't count it.
  2. Three posts say the chicken had no gamey smell, and none say it did. One post says the broth comes unsalted, so you season it with salt and pepper.
  3. Five posts come from regulars. Locals write that they go at least twice a year, or whenever they want samgyetang. Another post records two visits, in August and November 2025.

These are raw counts, not percentages. Someone who did not mention something is not someone who disagreed.

The most ordered dish is samgyetang (삼계탕) — 3 of 7 posts.

The prices here are what bloggers wrote down in their posts, and they may have changed since. Check Naver Place for the current menu and prices. This list is not a menu board — it counts what bloggers actually ordered and ate. Check on Naver Place

Parking

3 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park3 of 7 posts

Three posts say there is parking. Two of them call the building's basement lot cramped, and one suggests a public lot at peak times. Only one post says parking was roomy, and that post also disagrees with the others on location and opening hours.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 1 (of 7 posts read)

Only one post describes the floor: the restaurant is on the second floor of Hyesan Plaza and easy to miss. No one says whether you get up by lift or stairs.

We don't know about steps at the entrance or wheelchair and stroller access. No post mentions it, which doesn't mean there is a problem.

We don't know whether the toilet is inside the restaurant. One post lists separate men's and women's toilets, but that line was copied from an amenities list, so we didn't count it.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Opinions on the size of the room differ. Two posts say tables are well spaced or plentiful, and one calls it a small place.
  • No post describes getting there by public transport from experience. One has a line saying a bus stop is about five minutes' walk, but it reads like a copied guide entry, so we didn't count it. One post says they drove.
  • No post mentions queueing. One says there were few customers at a late lunch. Another guesses it gets busy on boknal, the hottest days of summer when Koreans eat samgyetang, but that is a guess. One post says the food took a while to come out.
  • Two posts went with family (one with a mother, one as a couple with a child) and one with acquaintances. No post describes eating alone.
  • Three posts give the hours as 11:00-21:00 daily with last orders at 20:30, but all three were copied from a listing. An April 2025 post read the posted hours as running until 21:30, and one post gives 11:00-22:00 with Wednesdays closed. We can't say for certain whether there is a regular day off.
  • Plain samgyetang was 16,000 won in four posts from April 2025 through July 2026. Two posts found it reasonable, and two said it might feel pricey, or that samgyetang has become a burden as prices in general went up.
  • Three posts give the phone number as 031-859-4177. No post says from experience whether reservations are taken, though one says that if you phone your order a few minutes ahead they will have it ready.
