하노이거리 Hanoi Street: a Vietnamese restaurant in Byeongjeom cooked and run by a couple who came from Vietnam, with a Vietnamese grocery attached next door

Compiled from 29 blog posts read in fullSources →

Hanoi Georo is a Vietnamese restaurant at street level in Jinan-dong, Hwaseong. Eight writers say it is run and cooked by a couple who came from Vietnam as students, and the one sponsored post carries a line about the owner's parents having kept a pho shop in Hanoi for some fifty years — which we have not verified. The yellow front and the Vietnamese flag catch the eye from a distance, several say, and lanterns hang from the ceiling. You order from a tablet at your table and pay at the counter on the way out. Alongside the pho, bun cha, banh xeo and banh mi there is bun bo hue, Vietnamese blood sausage, sticky rice and che for dessert, most single dishes around the ten-thousand-won mark. There is a Vietnamese grocery attached next door. Eleven in the morning to eleven at night, closed Tuesdays. The posts we read run from April 2025 to January 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours

What sets it apart

  1. Five writers record Vietnamese customers in the room. One at an odd hour in the afternoon found the place full of them; one took it as proof the food was the real thing; one watched a table greet the staff and order in Vietnamese and decided they were regulars. Another overheard a customer ask the owner whether he was Vietnamese and tell him the food was good. The writers treat this as evidence — if the people from that country eat here, one reasons, it must be right. We do not vouch for the inference. We do count that five people saw the room that way. Two note that the staff are all Vietnamese and their Korean good enough that ordering was no trouble. One mentions the menu carries Vietnamese alongside the Korean.
  2. Every table has a tablet, and the coriander is an option on it. Eight writers write about the coriander, because here it is a choice — tick 'no coriander' when you order the pho, and one writer notes that asking once takes it out of everything on the order. The other way round, there is plenty of it for those who want it: one is startled by how much arrives, another is pleased to find her banh mi full of it. The banh mi, though, has no coriander option on the tablet, and one writer only had it left out because the owner came over and asked. The pho comes as beef or fish, and the bun bo hue can be had without the blood. You order at the table but pay at the counter on your way out.
  3. It is set up for children. Five writers note the high chairs and five came with children. One brought her third and sat her in one; one brought a pushchair; one brought a boy and a girl and had to add a banh mi to the order. Several find the food suits children too — the noodles do not swell, so they can eat slowly; the spicing is mild enough for a daughter who is fussy; the sausage banh mi was finished single-handed by a second child. Sort the hot dishes out first, though: one writer warns twice over that the bun bo hue is not for the faint-hearted.
  4. More than half of these posts open or close on the line that it feels like being in Vietnam. Yellow walls, a ceiling of coloured lanterns, rattan chairs and wooden tables, framed views of Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City — and, two writers note, Vietnamese music playing rather than K-pop. A few noticed things you would not find elsewhere: one a small shrine in the corner of the room, one an inflatable pho mascot at the door, one a neon sign of a bowl of pho high-fiving a bottle of sriracha. So many write with a trip to Vietnam in mind that the place reads differently depending on whether you have been — the phrase 'exactly as it tasted over there' almost always comes from someone who has.

  1. The prices barely move across nine months. Beef pho at ₩10,900, bun cha at ₩12,900, mixed banh mi at ₩8,900 — every writer who records them, from April 2025 to January 2026, records the same. The one exception is the banh xeo, at ₩9,900 in eight posts (April, June, July, November) and ₩10,900 in three (September, October), and we cannot tell whether it went up and came down or somebody miscopied it. The most recent of them says ₩9,900. One writer had three dishes for two people and came in under thirty thousand won; everyone who gives a price leads with what good value it is. The dearest thing is the nem lui at ₩14,900; under ten thousand you have the banh mi, the sticky rice, the cha gio and the banh xeo.

Parking

Posts saying you can park7 of 29 posts
Posts saying you cannot10 of 29 posts

Nothing in these posts splits people like the parking. Seven writers say you can get a car or two in front of the shop; ten say you cannot park at all and should use the public lot. Both sides are writing from what they saw. The one who did park in front says two will just squeeze in, that it means putting a wheel on the pavement, and that she was waved in anyway. The other side is blunt: there is no parking, use the public lot. One writer gives you the exact spot she used — 162 metres away, a two-minute walk, by the car wash on the next block. Five used the Jinan public car park, three of them noting the first ninety minutes are free, and one copied out the whole tariff. If you are driving, do not count on the front of the shop.

Getting inside

Toilet inside3 of 29 posts
Separate restroomsyes 0 · no 1 (of 29 posts read)

The address says ground floor, and nobody looked. The registered address ends with 'first floor', and the writers copy that line out along with the rest of the address — but copying an address is not seeing a door. Not one post says whether there are steps, how many, or whether the entrance is flush with the pavement. There are two indirect hints: one writer mentions tables outside on the pavement, and one that you can see into the room through the glass front. Both point to walking straight in off the street, but neither confirms it. No post mentions an upstairs or a basement.

Nobody looked at the door. The address tells you it is at street level, and one writer mentions tables outside, but not one post says whether there is a step at the entrance. There is one hint: a writer brought a pushchair — she mentions it in passing, hoping her baby will be old enough for the high chair next time — and records no difficulty that day. Recording no difficulty is not the same as saying there is no step. Eight writers call the room roomy, so moving about inside is probably fine, but that too is our inference. If it matters, ring ahead and ask.

The toilet is inside. Three writers say so and they agree. One of them went in and reports: unisex, but partitioned into stalls, roomy, with hand soap. So not separate men's and women's. The other two note only that it is indoors and convenient. On an accessible toilet there is nothing.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • The writers do not agree on whether you can walk from the station. The one who actually measured it puts Byeongjeom station at twenty-two minutes on foot — and she drove in the end, parked in the public lot and walked three minutes. One writer came by bus, got off at the Jinan-dong stop, found it a short walk and says she was glad to have left the car. The rest are vague: near the station, near the main shopping block, in among the Jinan-dong restaurants. One post did claim five minutes from exit 1, but its prices were wrong too and we left it out of our count. The short of it: not a walk from the subway, but close to a bus stop.
  • Not one writer queued. Plenty say the room was busy — she had heard of it because it was always full; office workers fill it at lunch; people kept coming in. But none of them waited. Five say the opposite, that the food is fast: everything inside ten minutes; it arrived as soon as she ordered. Two mention booking, and one explains why: the regulars who had rung ahead were served the moment they sat down, so book if your lunch hour is tight. What people do run into is things being off — one went for the bun cha and found it sold out, and two found the desserts gone.
  • Two posts declare a sponsorship and six mention something given for a review. Of the two, one says so in its opening line — it is also the post carrying the story about the owner's parents in Hanoi — and the other tags it at the bottom. The review offer is a Naver receipt review in exchange for one of three things: seafood cha gio, cheese potatoes or two fried king prawns; two writers took it. And four of these posts went up on the same day, 3 September 2025. That can be the mark of a batch commission, so we note it. But the four do not read alike — different orders (pho, banh xeo and banh mi; pho, banh mi and banh xeo; pho, banh xeo and rice-paper rolls; banh xeo, cha gio and blood sausage), different prices recorded, one writer going as far as the inside of the toilet stall and another copying out the whole menu board. There is a record of eating in each, so all four are counted. One post we did drop: it put the prices at twelve to fifteen thousand won and the station five minutes away, and both are contradicted by everyone else.
