Seonghui Pocha

성희포차 Seonghui is the owner's given name — the walls and lamps carry a cartoon of her face — and pocha is short for pojangmacha, a Korean tented drinking stall.

Seonghui Pocha is an indoor pojangmacha at 1445 Pyeonghwa-ro in Deokgye-dong, Yangju, next to Deokgye Park and a small post office. People come for dumplings made from its kimchi mandu — deep-fried or in a hot pot — plus chicken feet, LA-style ribs and fried chicken over soju, and many arrive as a second stop because it opens late afternoon and runs past midnight. A fire closed it in the first half of 2026; it reopened on June 16 with a new sign and a new interior. On the July 2026 menu the fried dumplings were 16,000 won, the dumpling hot pot 19,000 won and the bone-in chicken feet 17,000 won. We read 29 posts dated April 2025 to September 2026: 12 were about other places (mostly the owner's separate restaurant Seonghui Mandu, a Uijeongbu branch and the post office next door) and were set aside, 4 were introductions or ads by people who had not eaten there, and 13 were counted.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Fried dumplings are what the place is known for. Five of the 13 counted posts ordered them, and six described the frying as crisp (the chicken and gizzards included) — a crackling shell over a moist hand-made filling. One post noted there is no meat version: only the kimchi dumpling gets fried.
  2. The dumpling filling is hot. Five posts said so; one warned that people who avoid spice will find it a little fiery and another showed the red filling. One post found the soupy chicken feet only moderately spicy.
  3. Free starters arrive when you sit down. Five posts mention them, and all five name seaweed soup; the rest varied — fried hardtack and mayo salad in 2025, steamed egg and corn salad in June 2026. One group refilled the rich seaweed soup four times.
  4. It is a group place: four posts came for office dinners, farewells or meet-ups, two with friends and two with family. A July 2025 office dinner booked ahead and was given three tables; that post counted about seven four-person tables plus one six-to-eight-seat table in the back.

  1. Two posts from after the reopening said the place is now clean and new, from the sign to the interior and kitchen. Before the fire, a February 2026 post said the toilet had just been redone and was spotless.

Posts saying you can park1 of 12 posts

Only one post (August 2026) parked and said so — parking in front was easy. The other mentions of parking by the post office are copied from the listing, and no one said how many cars fit.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 2 (of 12 posts read)

The address says ground floor, but none of the 13 visitors wrote about floors or stairs. That means no one mentioned it, not that there is nothing to mention.

We don't know about the entrance step or wheelchair and stroller access. One introduction post says the entrance is wheelchair-accessible, but that was copied from the listing by someone who didn't visit, so we don't rely on it.

Two posts said the toilet is outside the shop, but both are from before the fire (June 2025 and February 2026). No one has written about it since the reopening, so we don't know whether that still holds. No one mentioned separate men's and women's toilets either.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 16 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • The line about being five minutes from Deokgye Station is copied from the listing. No visitor wrote about arriving by subway or bus.
  • Tables fill quickly. One July 2026 post found it full early in the evening with people waiting outside; a June post found it full around 11 p.m. on a weekday but got a table soon as others left. No one recorded how long they waited.
  • Opinions on size split one to one, both before the fire: one 2025 post found it roomier than expected inside, another called it a small, rough pocha of about ten tables. After the reopening, an August 2026 post counted nine or ten tables plus a group area at the back.
  • Prices rose by roughly 1,000 won over a year: fried dumplings went from 15,000 won (April and July 2025) to 16,000 won (July 2026), and LA ribs from 25,000 won (July 2025) to 27,000 won (June 2026). Views on value split: one post found everything cheap, one called prices average but the sides pricey, and one thought only the pizza was poor value. No one gave a total bill.
  • Eight visitor posts give the same hours — 3:30 p.m. to 2 a.m., closed Sundays — but every one copied them from the listing, and no one recorded a last-order time.
  • Several posts list the phone number 031-866-5222, copied from the listing. The only booking on record is a July 2025 office dinner that reserved three tables in advance.
