Hwangane Sutbul Saenggogi

황가네숯불생고기 Hwangane means 'the Hwang family's place'; sutbul saenggogi is fresh, never-frozen meat grilled over charcoal.

A charcoal pork-grill house on Pyeonghwa-ro 1479beon-gil in Deokgye-dong, Yangju. Diners grill pork belly, neck, jowl, skirt and collar cap, plus beef and pork intestine, themselves over charcoal at the table. Four posts put a portion of meat at 19,000 won (9,500 won per 100 g) and one at 18,000 won; thirteen ordered the 4,000-won soybean stew alongside. The place was expanded and remodelled between July and August 2026: posts from mid-August on describe a roomy, clean room with an ordering tablet at every table, while earlier posts describe a cramped old-style joint. We read 19 posts from April to October 2026, 18 of them from actual visits.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Space splits cleanly at the expansion. Four posts from April to July 2026 call it cramped — five people squeezed round a small table, a shop you can see is small from the door. Five posts from 18 August 2026 on call it roomy, with tables far enough apart for a group. We have not mixed the two periods.
  2. Five posts order from a tablet or kiosk at the table, all dated 14 August 2026 or later; a long-time regular notes the screens are new since the remodel.
  3. Six posts got side dishes refilled — the stir-fried kimchi with tofu, the scallion salad, the lettuce; one says the owner noticed an empty dish and offered more unasked.
  4. At busy dinner hours the stew and rice run late. Three posts say so: the stew arrived only after a second round of meat, the stew took so long they thought it was forgotten, and on a weekend evening rice ordered at 7 was still missing 40 minutes later because it had run out. One post says the pork arrived right away.
2 more
  1. Six posts mention high chairs; of the two that brought a child, one says they were given a baby spoon and fork.
  2. Six posts say the prices are fair — one notes a portion is 200 g, another can't believe the stew is 4,000 won. No post calls it expensive. Three saw a free drink offered for a receipt review.

Five posts parked in front of the shop. One found three or four spaces free around 5 pm on a Saturday, another found it tightly packed, and one parked at the church next door, which is empty in the evening.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 18 posts read)

We don't know the floor from experience: the address says ground floor, but no post describes going in, stairs or levels.

We don't know about steps at the entrance or wheelchair and stroller access; even the posts with small children don't mention a stroller. That means nobody wrote about it, not that there is a problem.

The toilet is outside the restaurant. Only one post mentions it: you reach it down the alley beside a billiard hall. Nobody says whether it is separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 19 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • We don't know how to get there by train or bus. Only a listicle claims it is about ten minutes' walk from Deokgye Station, which we did not rely on; the visitors drove or lived nearby.
  • Waiting is one post each way: an April 2026 post queued briefly at dinner, an August post (after the expansion) was seated straight away. Several posts found it nearly full by 6 or 7 pm, but none says how long a wait might be.
  • Service is mixed: two posts found the staff kind, one found weekend-evening service poor — no one seated them and nobody explained the missing rice — and another says extra orders took several requests at a busy hour.
  • Opening hours: eleven posts give 3:30 pm to 11 pm, all copied from listings. The closing day seems to have changed — posts up to July copy 'closed the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month', posts from September copy 'open every day', and two of those give Sunday as 3 pm to 10:30 pm. Check before you go.
  • Meat prices: four posts say 19,000 won a portion, one says 18,000. One post says that since the expansion the stew must be ordered separately from rice, but pre-expansion posts already paid 4,000 won for it separately, so we can't confirm a change.
  • Six posts copy the same phone number, 031-858-1892. On booking, one post saw reserved parties arriving at peak time; none explains how to reserve.
  • Four posts end with an identical keyword line, and more repeat the same search phrase. None discloses sponsorship, so we counted them, but note that one post complained about service in a way the keyword posts never do.
