Gonjiam Halmae Someori Gukbap Yangju Deokgye-jeom
곤지암할매소머리국밥 양주덕계점 Gonjiam is a town in Gwangju, Gyeonggi, and halmae is dialect for grandma; someori gukbap is a rice soup made with beef head meat. This is the Yangju Deokgye branch of a chain.

A beef-head soup chain branch with a yellow sign, in a back street of old Deokgye, Yangju, next to the Nonghyup bank. Head-meat soup is 10,000 won (13,000 large), the spicy version 11,000, and the menu also runs to short-rib soup, seolleongtang, offal soup, spicy pork rice and bulgogi, plus boiled meat and hotpots to go with drinks. Side dishes come to the table first, and refills are self-serve. Two posts counted seven four-person tables; one counted about eight. We read 22 posts dated from 28 February 2025 to 12 July 2026, and 21 of them record an actual meal. Twenty-one of the 22 fall into two bursts, in February–March and June–August 2025.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- The first round of side dishes is brought to the table, and refills come from a self-serve bar; 15 posts said so. Kkakdugi, fresh kimchi, onion and chili are constant, and one post said a single extra side such as cucumber kimchi or garlic scapes changes daily. Two posts said the owner brought refills over even though the sign says self-serve.
- Five posts mentioned a kettle and instant-coffee sachets by the exit, free to help yourself.
- Thirteen posts said neither the meat nor the broth had any gamey smell, and none said it did.
- Eleven posts were family meals, seven of them with children. One said a seven-year-old finished a whole bowl; another cut up short rib with the scissors and tongs provided to feed a child.
1 more
- This is a chain branch; two posts said so, one of them saying it had worried about the chain format before eating.

Parking
7 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

There is no lot of the restaurant's own. Seven posts said they came by car, and four of those used the Nonghyup bank lot next door. One noted a sign there reserving it for bank customers, but said the owner told them a short stop while eating is fine; another parked there on a Sunday, when the bank was closed. One post said about one car fits in front of the shop.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.
From the station
Five posts mentioned a kettle and instant-coffee sachets by the exit, free to help yourself.
Getting inside
No post describes which floor the restaurant is on from experience; only the address says ground floor.
No one wrote about a step at the door or wheelchair and stroller access, not even the post that came with a baby. That means we don't know, not that there is a barrier.
No one mentioned where the toilet is or whether it is separated by gender.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 22 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Twenty-one of the 22 posts cluster in February–March 2025 (nine) and June–August 2025 (twelve), and they share the same five hashtags. Only one discloses sponsorship; the rest say nothing either way. Claims of a 60-year tradition, a patent and a former presidential chef are the restaurant's own marketing, repeated by bloggers, and we did not count them.
- Opinions on size split: one post found it roomier than expected, four called it small or cosy, and two said medium.
- No post described queuing. One went after lunch and was seated straight away; another arrived around 11:30 on a weekday to a full room and took the last table. One mentioned red plastic waiting chairs by the door.
- Opening hours appear in 18 posts. Seventeen say 9am to 10pm daily, and one gives a 9pm close; most were copied from a listing. A July 2026 post ate around 8:40am and said to try the door before 9 if the sign is lit.
- Menu prices transcribed in March and August 2025 match, but no post gives 2026 prices. The one discrepancy is bulgogi: 10,000 won on the transcribed menus, 9,000 on one July 2025 receipt.
- No post describes arriving by bus or train. One recommended public transport or walking, and mentions of Deokgye Station only describe the location.
- No post was a solo visit, though three saw people eating alone; none came with friends either.
- Many posts give the same phone number, 031-864-3367, but none tried booking by phone; the one mention of group reservations is hearsay.
