Dungchi
둥치 Dungchi is a Korean word for the thick lower part of a tree trunk; none of the posts explain why the shop chose the name.

Dungchi is a Japanese restaurant on the ground floor of a shop-house in Deokgye-dong, Yangju, across the main road from Deokgye Station exit 1. One owner-chef cooks alone in an open kitchen. Lunch is rice-bowl sets such as kaisendon (18,000 won), sakedon (13,000), beef-intestine don (13,000) and menchi-katsu (15,000); evenings turn izakaya, with a sashimi platter at 38,000 won, nanban karaage at 18,000 and hot pots. We read 30 posts dated December 2025 to October 2026; 27 describe actual visits, and 3 only linked to it from posts about other places.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.
What sets it apart
- Seating is a counter facing the open kitchen plus tables for two and four. Seventeen posts described where they sat, and eight said you can watch the cooking from the counter. One post said pairs are usually shown to the counter; another arrived at 7 pm to find the four-tops nearly full and took counter seats.
- Despite the one-person kitchen, most found it quick: eight posts said food came fast or without delay, including one where the owner warned it might be slow and it wasn't. One post, a weekend dinner in June 2026, said dishes come slowly and the owner tells you how long to expect.
- A complimentary starter arrives first — ten posts mention it, naming different things: pickles and corn, braised radish, vinegared seaweed, tofu, even monkfish liver. One guessed it changes daily. Two posts said the water was cold green tea (August 2026) or barley tea (October 2026).
- Eight posts recommended booking or did book. One saw walk-ins turned away on a weekend evening, and three advised reserving for groups of five or more (two of them by the same blogger). One late-evening visit found several dishes sold out.

- Of posts that said who they came with, six were couples, five were family (children, a daughter, a mother, a sister), two friends and one solo. Two brought children, and one mentioned a single high chair.

Ten posts said they parked. There are a few spaces out front (one counted about three), and many used nearby empty lots or the roadside. One post said the lot is small and suggested public transport; another said the front spaces fill quickly on weekend evenings.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside
| In a basement | yes 0 · no 1 (of 27 posts read) |
|---|---|
| Toilet inside | yes 0 · no 4 (of 27 posts read) |
| Separate restrooms | 1 of 27 posts |
Only one post described the floor from experience, saying the shop is on the ground floor; the rest just copied '1F' from the address.
Nobody wrote about a step at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller — and the restroom is outside at the back of the building. We simply don't know.
The restroom is outside the shop. Four posts said you take a key and walk around to the back of the building, with a sign pointing the way. One noted separate men's and women's rooms but said the alley can feel a little spooky.
No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know
- Opinions on price split nine to four: nine called the lunch sets good value, while four said the menu runs expensive overall. The prices themselves were the same across posts.
- Views on size differ: two posts found it roomier than expected, three called it small. One noted there is no large-group table.
- No post described queueing. One found it empty at a weekday lunch; several found it nearly full at dinner or on weekends, but none timed a wait. That means nobody recorded one, not that there is none.
- Four posts said it is walkable from Deokgye Station, around ten minutes. The copied '611 m from exit 1' line in info blocks was not counted. No post mentioned a bus.
- Twenty-five posts gave hours, mostly copied from the same info block: 11:30–23:00, break 15:00–17:30, last order 22:00, closed Mondays and the 2nd and 4th Sundays. Two said it opens at 11:00, one said it closes at 22:00, one gave the break as ending at 17:00. Several noted lunch bowls are served only until 15:00.
- Eleven posts gave the phone number as 0507-1409-2462; one December 2025 post listed 010-7776-2460. Posts that booked did so by phone.
- The lunch menu changed. December 2025 posts list tendon (15,000 won) and butadon (13,000); from January 2026 posts show only sakedon, kaisendon, menchi-katsu and beef-intestine don. Two October 2026 posts add an eggplant bowl.
- Of the 27 posts, two disclosed sponsorship, six said they paid their own way, and nineteen said nothing; one writer said the owner is a close acquaintance. A few read like polished commissioned copy with almost no concrete details, so we leaned less on their praise.
