Wisaeng Jjimdak

위생찜닭 Wisaeng means hygiene and jjimdak is soy-braised chicken; one post relays that the founder picked the name as a promise to cook cleanly, as if for family.

Compiled from 21 blog posts read in fullSources →

A jjimdak house inside the Andong Old Market's braised-chicken alley. The two mains are Andong jjimdak, chicken simmered in soy sauce with potato, cabbage and glass noodles, and jjorimdak, the same dish reduced further. Medium is 32,000 won and large 48,000 won; there is no small. The chicken is cooked in big pots out front and brought in, with pickled radish and kimchi on the side. We read 25 posts from October 2025 to October 2026. Two were about other restaurants and two were copied listings, which leaves 21 first-hand visits (three of them takeout).

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Nobody disagrees about portions: all 17 posts that mentioned size called it large. One says the medium was much bigger than expected, four women couldn't finish one medium, and a couple took half of theirs home. A group of eight ordered two larges and then understood why the owner had suggested one medium and one large. Several pairs wished there were a small.
  2. There is a review promotion: 7 posts saw the notice or used it. Post a review on Instagram or a Naver receipt review and you get either one drink or two bowls of rice. Rice normally costs 1,000 won extra, so several writers took the rice.
  3. Heat comes in five levels, from mild to hot, and several posts compare the middle level to Shin Ramyun. Seven posts called their dish spicy and one said it wasn't. A couple who ordered the second-hottest level say the heat built up as they ate until both were sweating.
  4. Three posts say cooking starts in the pots out front only once you order. Two writers had their food in about 10 minutes, one in 15, and one in 15 to 20.

Parking

2 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot2 of 21 posts

Two posts say there is no restaurant parking. Most used the Andong Old Market public lot two minutes' walk away; they report the first 30 minutes free, 500 won for an hour, and no validation from the restaurant. Several found that lot crowded. One suggested the Ungbu Park lot about 10 minutes' walk away, and another a street lot that is free on Sundays. We ignored a copied listing that just says parking is available.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 21 posts read)

No post says what floor it is on or whether there are stairs, only that it opens onto the market alley. That doesn't mean it's on the ground floor; nobody wrote it down.

No post says whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or stroller fits. One post came with a child but said nothing about getting in.

Only one post mentions the toilet, saying you have to use the market's public restroom rather than one inside. Another post copied a listing that says the restrooms are separated by gender, but that is not first-hand, so we didn't count it.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 23 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Waiting depends on timing: 3 posts waited and 4 walked straight in. The waits were about 20 minutes during the mask-dance festival, one over the May Day holiday, and one weekend visit just after noon that got in immediately while a line formed during the meal. The walk-ins came around 6 pm on a weekday, at 7:55 pm on a Saturday, and mid-afternoon on a weekday. Two posts signed up on a machine at the door and browsed the market meanwhile; one says your turn comes by KakaoTalk and one booking covers up to four people.
  • Six posts said the room is small and none called it big. One counted about seven or eight four-person tables, another said the tables sit close together, and three called it medium-sized. One writer thought a party of five or more would struggle unless they arrived at opening.
  • A December 2025 post says the restaurant used to have floor seating and now has only tables with chairs. We don't know when that changed. Every post from October 2025 on that mentions seating describes tables with chairs.
  • No post arrived by bus or train. A 10-minute walk from Andong Station appears only in one promotional-sounding post and isn't first-hand. One family trip post says Andong can't be done without a car.
  • Visitors came with various people: family in 5 posts, a partner in 4, friends in 2, and big groups in 2 (eight and six people). One post brought a child. Nobody came alone, and many pairs say they had to order a medium because there is no small.
  • All the opening hours we found are copied listings, and they disagree. Every post that names a closing day says Wednesday. Four posts from October to December 2025 give 9 am daily. In 2026, 7 posts give 10 am on weekdays and 9 am on weekends, 3 give 9 am and 4 give 10 am. Most say it closes at 9 pm, with last orders at 8. A 3 to 5 pm break appears only in two November 2025 posts, and a September 2026 post says there is no break. Check before you go.
  • Prices held steady from December 2025 to October 2026: 32,000 won for a medium jjimdak or jjorimdak, 48,000 won for a large. Many posts shared a medium between two or three people, but none worked out a per-person price. Five posts list the same phone number, 054-852-7411. The only signs of reservations are a copied listing and one writer's advice to book on Naver; nobody actually reserved.
