Korean

Handasot Gyeongju

한다솥 경주점 Sot is the Korean word for a heavy rice pot — every meal here comes with rice cooked in its own pot, finished as scorched-rice tea.

Compiled from 24 blog posts read in fullSources →

Handasot's Gyeongju branch is a pot-rice restaurant in a two-storey hanok on Cheomseong-ro 111, on the road between Cheomseongdae and Daereungwon. Each pot of rice comes with about eight side dishes and seaweed soup, and you pour water into the emptied pot to finish with scorched-rice tea. Visitors list soy-braised pork belly pot rice at 18,000 won, short-rib pot rice at 23,000, eel pot rice at 26,000 and the two-person grilled fish set at 38,000. The fish set was the most ordered (ten posts), then the pork belly (seven). A July 2026 post named a different line-up (braised mackerel with kimchi, pork-jowl pot rice, marinated seafood), so the menu has changed since. It is a chain branch — one post says so outright. We read 30 posts from 6 July to 26 October 2026; 24 of them record actually eating here.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. The view is the talking point: nine posts wrote about window seats or the big windows, mostly upstairs looking out over the royal tombs. A post that came after dark said the view was lost at night, and one warned that window seats get hot on sunny days.
  2. The child-friendly reputation has evidence behind it: eleven posts saw high chairs, one said there were some on each floor, and another mentioned children's tableware. Seven posts came with children, and several said the food was mild enough for them — one family on a low-salt diet for their child found it fine. Nine posts came with family, five as a couple, three with friends.
  3. Five posts said the seasoning was not salty; no post said otherwise.
  4. You order from a tablet or kiosk at the table; seven posts did so. There is a call bell for anything not on the screen, and a July visitor used it when the kiosk lost its connection.

Parking

7 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park7 of 24 posts

There is room for a few cars in front. The five posts that counted gave 2–3, 2, 3, two and 2 spaces. Seven posts said they could park, and three reached no verdict and pointed to public lots. One watched a taxi take the space they were waiting for; another called it parking hell and recommended a paid lot. One family parked on the street, where the attendant waived the fee for leaving within an hour. Copied info lines such as 'free, 4 spaces' or 'no lot' were not counted.

Getting inside

Second floor14 of 24 posts
In a basementyes 0 · no 5 (of 24 posts read)
Toilet inside4 of 24 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 24 posts

Seating is on two floors, and fourteen posts sat upstairs or described the upper floor. You reach it by an outdoor staircase on the side of the building. Two posts went up because only one table was left downstairs, one because the ground floor was full, and one found the upper floor closed before the dinner hours until they asked staff to open it.

There is no basement level; five posts describe entering or sitting on the ground floor.

Nobody described the entrance step or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. One post's copied info block says the entrance and seats are wheelchair-accessible, which we do not count, and another notes stroller access was unconfirmed. The upper floor is reached by an outdoor staircase; the only lift mentioned is a dumbwaiter for food. That is an absence of reports, not proof either way.

Four posts place the toilet inside, at the back of the ground floor. One notes there is none upstairs, so second-floor diners have to come down. One post says the toilets are separate for men and women.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 6 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-082 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • No post actually waited. Four mention the CatchTable waitlist at the door or a usual queue, but walked straight in on a weekday or at an off-peak hour; one watched the room fill up while they ate. We do not know how long weekend or holiday lunch waits are.
  • Two posts said the pot rice takes a while — one timed it at 10–15 minutes, the other said to allow extra time on a busy day.
  • No post arrived by bus or train. Several say it is about five minutes' walk from Cheomseongdae and Daereungwon, but they all parked nearby or walked over from the sights. We have nothing on public transport.
  • Prices agree across all visits from September 2026 on. One post said it is not cheap; another thought the pot rice looked pricey until the spread of side dishes won them over. A non-visit info post listed lower 'registered' prices (short rib 17,000, abalone 19,000 won); we did not use it.
  • Fifteen posts give the same hours, 10:30–21:00, and every one that gives a last order says 20:00 — though nearly all copy it from an info block at the top. Two say open every day of the year, two say no afternoon break. A list post with no visit gave 11:00–21:00 with last order 20:30.
  • Many posts give the same phone number, 0507-1321-7088. Some say you can book through Naver or CatchTable, but nobody reported booking; one says groups over 20 should call.
  • Many visiting posts share a title formula, the same info block, the same Naver Place link and the free-juice review event. Three disclose sponsorship (one 'partly self-paid'), one says self-paid, and the other twenty say nothing. Two posts from 23 October appear to describe the same group's visit.
