Matjarang
맛자랑 Matjarang joins mat (taste) and jarang (pride, something to show off) — roughly 'pride of flavor'.

A hanok-style set-meal restaurant on Bobul-ro 329 in Gyeongju, on the road between Bomun Lake and Bulguksa. There are four sets: stone-pot rice set 20,000 won, Korean-beef patty set 17,000, Matjarang set 14,000 and soft-tofu set 10,000. The stone-pot set is what nearly everyone ordered — 25 posts — and it lands all at once: beef bulgogi, grilled croaker, glazed flounder, both a doenjang stew and a soft-tofu stew, and side dishes like japchae, kimchi pancake and salad. Most writers scooped out the rice, poured hot water into the pot and ate the scorched rice at the end. We read 30 posts dated 4 January to 17 October 2026; 28 describe an actual visit. One was really about a nearby café and was dropped, and one only listed the place in a travel itinerary. Six posts disclose sponsorship or payment; one says the writer paid.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- You take your shoes off at the door — 8 posts say so, one describing a shoe rack already full. One writer advises asking for a shoe bag if your shoes are expensive.
- The main hall has tables and chairs; separate floor-seating rooms sit off to the side. 12 posts mention the rooms, divided by folding doors in one account and curtains in another; one writer couldn't photograph them because a group had taken the room.
- A family place: 11 posts mention high chairs. One notes they can only be used in the main hall, not the floor-seating rooms, so families with toddlers are better off at tables. Another describes high chairs, phone chargers, a microwave and spare plates set out by the entrance for guests to help themselves.
- The stone-pot and Matjarang sets require at least two portions — 9 posts note this from the menu or their order. The croaker and flounder come one fish per two portions, so a party ordering three got two of each. The beef-patty and tofu sets can be ordered singly.
6 more
- Seasoning is mild by most accounts: 8 posts say the food isn't salty or harsh. Two posts did call the doenjang stew salty — both meant it approvingly.
- Opinions on heat split: 3 posts say the tofu stew isn't spicy, while 2 found the doenjang or tofu stew mildly hot.
- Those who ordered the seafood pancake call it crisp outside — 6 posts.
- Waiting depends on timing. 3 posts waited or saw a queue form right behind them; 3 walked straight in, all before or well after the lunch rush. There's a Tabling sign-up machine at the entrance.
- 5 posts say food came quickly even when the room was full; one sponsored post says it took a while because of the stone-pot rice and grilled fish.
- Many writers were repeat visitors — 8 posts describe a return visit or call it a regular haunt.

Parking
20 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

20 posts parked in the restaurant's own lot out front. It's large but fills up: writers found it nearly full at 2 p.m. on a Sunday and on a Saturday, packed by 10:30 a.m., and one waited for a space around opening time. The '40+ cars' figure comes from the restaurant's own listing.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.
Getting inside
| Toilet inside | yes 0 · no 1 (of 28 posts read) |
|---|
No post says what floor the dining room is on or whether there are stairs — nobody mentioned it, which isn't the same as there being none.
Nobody wrote about a step at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller; all we know is that you remove your shoes to step inside. One sponsored post says the spacious tables suit older people with mobility trouble, but it says nothing about the entrance.
Whether the toilets are indoors is unclear. One post says there's a separate toilet building to the right of the restaurant. Lines claiming indoor, gender-separated toilets were copied from the listing, so we don't rely on them.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 29 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Prices went up. A visit on 31 December 2025 paid 38,000 won for two stone-pot sets and 13,000 for the pancake; posts from July 2026 list 20,000 per person and 14,000. We don't know exactly when the change happened. Two people having the stone-pot set plus one add-on spend roughly 52,000–54,000 won.
- Every post gives the hours as 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, with no closing day or afternoon break, though mostly copied from the listing. One sponsored post says it arrived 'at the 11 o'clock opening,' contradicting the rest. Several writers went for breakfast at the 9 a.m. opening.
- Everyone arrived by car; no one came by bus or train. One post copied a line about the nearby Hadongjeom village bus stop, but nobody actually took the bus.
- Many posts give the same phone number, 054-771-6424. Claims about reservations and 120-seat group dining come from the listing; no writer actually booked ahead.
- Much of the writing is promotional. Besides the disclosed sponsorships, four posts end with the identical eight hashtags in the same order; each still records a different meal, so we counted them, but read their praise with care. One unsponsored diary called it an 'ordinary set-meal place' and 'not one to go out of your way for.'
