Daewangdaege Jikpanjang

대왕대게직판장 영덕본점 Named like a market stall: king-sized snow crab, sold direct.

횟집 · Yeongdeok-gun, Ganggu-myeon

Data as of · Published ·

Daewang Daege Jikpanjang sits on the crab street by Ganggu harbour in Yeongdeok, across from the public car park. You pick a live crab out of the tank, it is steamed on the spot, and it comes back already cut open and trimmed. Ordering crab brings a free spread — clam soup, raw-fish salad, fritters — and the meal ends with fried rice in the crab shell and a crab soup with instant noodles. Most of what is in the tank is Russian: one writer records the owner telling her plainly that the local Bakdal crab the town is famous for is only caught between winter and spring. Nine in the morning until half past nine at night, ten on Saturdays. The posts we read run from February 2025 to August 2026.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours

What sets it apart

  1. You choose your crab and then you wait. Five writers describe picking from the tank and watching it go into the steamer; two time the wait at fifteen to twenty minutes, filled by the free spread arriving course by course. And it comes back ready: six posts say the crab is already cut and trimmed, so there is no work with scissors — one says a complete beginner could manage it.
  2. The owner explains things. Seven posts describe the service and five of them are specifically about being told something before paying: that the local Bakdal crab is only caught between winter and spring, so this writer ordered Russian instead; which crab was filled out that day; how much four people would actually need; what was in the tank and why. At a crab house on a tourist street where every price is market rate, this is the thing writers come back to most.

Parking

5 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park5 of 9 posts

Five posts mention parking and only one counts the spaces: a February 2025 writer says it is small but takes five cars or more, and adds that along this harbour many restaurants have nowhere to put a car at all. One notes that when it is full you can use the public car park right in front, free. One parked inside the building in the rain; one had the owner take the car and put it in the shade. That last writer is the only person who describes anything like valet parking — fourteen of the eighteen posts we set aside advertise it, all of them copying the same listing.

Getting there

Map showing where Daewangdaege Jikpanjang is

Getting inside

No post says which floor you eat on. One writer parks inside the building, so we know the car park and the restaurant share it, but whether you then climb stairs, take a lift, or simply walk through, nobody says. Nor does anyone say whether the seating is on chairs or on the floor.

Nobody writes about getting in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. Whether there is a step at the door, how wide it is, whether you could pass between the tables — none of the nine posts says. Four call the room wide and the tables well spaced, but that is about sitting down, not about getting in. The closest thing we have is a mother writing that being able to park inside the building made moving with children easy.

Not one person describes the toilet from their own visit. The phrase about separate men's and women's rooms appears twelve times — all twelve in the January 2025 batch, all twelve copied from the same map listing. None of the nine people who actually ate here mentions using one. Whether it is inside, how many stalls, whether there is a changing table: we do not know. Written down somewhere is not the same as seen.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 19 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2025-01-114 posts in one day
2025-01-077 posts in one day
2025-01-063 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • We read twenty-nine posts about this place and built the page on nine of them. Eighteen went up in the seven days between 5 and 11 January 2025. All eighteen open with the same line declaring a sponsorship, and thirteen follow it with the shop's map listing copied word for word. They carry the same encoding damage from the same template — the first characters of paragraphs broken in the same way — and posts published in January talk about *this summer*. Two supposedly different bloggers use the same odd private joke about being a dumpling connoisseur. Not one of the eighteen mentions a price. So we did not count them as visits. Counting them would treble this shop's numbers, and what the inflated numbers would say is that there is valet parking, delivery and wifi — none of which anyone describes actually using. The other two we set aside copy the map listing's ratings, and list ten crab restaurants without eating at any.
  • Only four posts give a price. The card lists Bakdal crab, snow crab, red crab, lobster and king crab, and every price on it says market rate — one writer concludes the menu is beside the point. Another says she shopped around afraid of being fleeced and chose this shop precisely because its price was published online. One reports the crab being weighed in front of them before the bill. The figures we carry are for a crab or for a table of two, not per person. And the eighteen sponsored posts we set aside contain no price at all: the advertising does not tell you what this costs.
  • Nobody writes about getting here without a car. All nine who ate here drove; the most anyone offers is that the shop is to the left of the crab street's public car park. No bus, no walking time from the terminal or the harbour. One of the eighteen posts we set aside does claim it is easy to reach without a car — but that post also has the season and the menu wrong, so we are not resting anything on it.
  • Nobody describes waiting for a table. Two describe the opposite: one September 2025 writer had the room to herself and blamed the grey weather; an August 2026 writer liked that the place was not famous enough to be crowded. But only three of the nine visits fall in crab season, roughly November to March, so we have not seen what the season does. One writer was told by the owner to come back in November. Two say booking secures a table.
  • Only three posts give opening hours, and all three copy them off the map listing — nobody reports reading the sign on the door. The two that break it down by day disagree about Sunday: one says half past eight, the other nine. They agree that Saturday runs an hour later, to ten at night with last orders at nine. No post mentions a closing day at all. Meanwhile twelve of the eighteen we set aside all say nine in the morning to ten at night, which does not match what the people who went actually wrote down.
