Sanhae Sikdang

산해식당 Sanhae literally reads as 'mountains and sea'; sikdang simply means restaurant.

A converted family hanok on Supmeori-gil, on the way to Gyeongju's Bomun resort area. The kitchen grills gochujang-marinated pork over coal briquettes and sends it out on the rack (12,000 won a portion, two-portion minimum), alongside house cheonggukjang (8,000), doenjang stew (2,000) and soy-marinated crab (20,000). One couple paid 34,000 won for two portions of pork, a cheonggukjang and two bowls of rice. We read 30 posts dated April 27 to October 27, 2026; seven record an actual meal. Fifteen are write-ups of TV and listing information posted after the October 16 broadcast of a celebrity food show, and eight turned out to be about other restaurants.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. You don't grill at the table. Five of the seven visit posts say the pork arrives fully cooked; one describes it set over a pot of boiling water so it stays moist, another says a low flame under the rack kept it warm to the last bite.
  2. Of the six posts that touch on waiting, three actually waited or saw a line: 20th on the list around 7:30 on a weekend evening and seated in 30 minutes; 12 parties ahead around noon on a weekday, with a warning to expect about an hour; seats free at 6 on a weekend but a line forming during the meal. Two posts describe writing your name on a sheet at the door, three mention rice paddles handed out as number tags, and one says there is a separate waiting area.
  3. Three posts note a two-portion minimum for the pork. Views on size split one to one: one says two portions are not generous and they'd order three next time, another found two portions plenty. One pair of diners ordered three.
  4. Three visit posts mention a cat lounging in the yard or by the entrance.
1 more
  1. Three posts saw celebrity autographs on the walls, and several mention walls full of Blue Ribbon stickers; two post-broadcast visitors saw the apron from the TV shoot on display.

No post mentions floors. Many call it a hanok, but that is not the same as saying there is no basement or upstairs seating; nobody wrote about it.

Two posts say you take your shoes off to enter from the yard, and one adds the step is high enough that wheelchair users would struggle. Nobody mentions a ramp or another entrance.

Only one post mentions the restroom, saying it is outside the building. Nobody says whether it is separated by gender or how big it is.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 22 posts we gathered, 15 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-233 posts in one day
2026-10-222 posts in one day
2026-10-202 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Six visit posts parked at the restaurant, but the lot is small: about three or four cars (April), down to about three from six or seven by one visitor's memory (October), described as cramped, and one saw cars circling for a spot. A listing claim of about ten spaces is copied information and we don't rely on it.
  • No one describes arriving by bus or train; visitors either drove or didn't say. We don't know how practical public transport is.
  • Hours: all seven visit posts give 11:00 to 20:30, closed Wednesdays; six add a 15:30 to 17:00 break and three a 20:00 last order, mostly copied from the listing. Two write-ups note a tourism site says open year-round, conflicting with the Wednesday closure, and two others say it also closes the day before and the day of Seollal and Chuseok.
  • Meal prices on record: 34,000 won for two (two portions of pork, a cheonggukjang, two rice) and, for three, 36,000 won of pork plus 8,000 for cheonggukjang and 2,000 for rice. Rice is 1,000 won extra. None of the visitors judged the price as high or low.
  • Two phone numbers circulate: 054-743-7791 and 0507-1496-7936, the first slightly more often. No visitor says whether reservations are taken; one write-up merely repeats a listing that says they are.
