Namjeong Buil Gisa Sikdang

남정부일기사식당 Gisa sikdang means a drivers' diner, the kind of roadside canteen Korean taxi and truck drivers eat at; Namjeong Buil is the house's proper name, and no post explains it.

Compiled from 22 blog posts read in fullSources →

A drivers' diner in Bae-dong, Gyeongju, on the west side of Namsan near Samneung. Nearly everyone orders the one dish called jjamppong, which here is not noodle soup but pork and small octopus in a pot you reduce yourself on a gas burner. It is 12,000 won a portion, rice included according to some posts. You simmer it until the liquid is nearly gone, then mix it into a bowl of rice with bean sprouts, radish salad and sesame oil, with lettuce wraps on the side. Seating is on the floor, shoes off. We read 30 posts dated 2 September to 28 October 2026; 23 are first-hand visits, and the other 7 are multi-restaurant lists or trip plans we did not count.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Timing matters. Eight posts queued or watched a line form behind them; four did not wait, arriving around 10 a.m., 4 p.m., 8 p.m., and in one case at lunch. Recorded waits: 30 minutes behind six or seven groups after 2 p.m. on a weekend, 20 to 30 minutes at lunch, under 10 minutes behind one group on a Saturday. There is no ticket or sign-up sheet; you simply stand at the door in order.
  2. No post mentions chairs. Six describe floor seating, three of them noting you take your shoes off at the door, and several say sitting on the floor was uncomfortable or hard for people with bad knees. Two mention separate rooms.
  3. The free sides are steamed egg, bean sprouts, radish salad, fish-cake stir-fry, stuffed cucumber kimchi and kimchi, with lettuce, chili, garlic and ssamjang. Seven posts say refills are available, and several explain you carry your plate to the kitchen yourself.
  4. Despite the red sauce, six posts say it is not spicy. Three say it is not salty, and some of those found it too bland.
2 more
  1. Eight posts call the portions generous. Four say it is cheap for what you get, and none call it expensive.
  2. Four posts came with family and four with a spouse; one is by a Gyeongju-born writer whose family are regulars.

Getting inside

No post says what floor the dining rooms are on or whether there are steps. That means nobody wrote about it, not that there are none.

Nobody mentions a threshold at the entrance or wheelchair or stroller access. All we know is that you take your shoes off and sit on the floor.

No post says whether the toilet is indoors or separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 7 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-232 posts in one day
2026-10-172 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opinions on flavour split. Three posts would not return and three found it ordinary, some comparing it unfavourably with visits two or three years earlier. More posts, though, call it a dish that makes you eat a lot of rice.
  • The crumbled seaweed is gone. Seven posts, all from October 2026, say it used to come with the rice and no longer does. None says when it stopped.
  • Prices have crept up. Every 2026 post gives jjamppong at 12,000 won a portion (24,000 for two); one says it is about 1,000 won more than two years earlier. Kimchi stew is listed at 11,000 won, makgeolli 3,000 and soju or beer 4,000.
  • Several posts say the owner brings jjamppong for the whole table the moment you sit down. One was thrown that the order went in before they had seen a menu, with none in their room. If you want something else, say so as you sit.
  • Most posts give opening hours of 09:00 to 20:00, closed Tuesdays, but almost all copied this from listing blocks. Four give last orders at 19:20. One says it opens at 9:30, and one from September 2026 says it closes only on the first and third Tuesdays. It may also close early when ingredients run out, so call ahead (054-745-9729).
  • No post describes getting there by bus or train. One says public transport is hard and recommends a taxi or rental car; nearly every visitor we read drove.
