Noodle houseKorean

Beombawi Makguksu

범바위막국수 Beombawi means 'tiger rock' (beom, tiger, and bawi, rock); one post says the name comes from a rock of that name nearby, though it could not confirm it, and makguksu is the buckwheat noodle the house serves.

Compiled from 26 blog posts read in fullSources →

A buckwheat-noodle house beside the Cheoksan hot springs in Sokcho, on the road toward Seoraksan. Cold or mixed makguksu is 10,000 won a bowl, the version topped with seasoned pollack 12,000, and boiled pork 25,000, with buckwheat dumplings, crepe rolls, sorghum cakes and stuffed squid on the side. You order by the QR code on the table; white kimchi and radish salad come with every meal. Most posts describe families arriving by car, sharing noodles and pork, then walking to the free foot spa next door. We read 30 posts from August 2025 to October 2026, and counted 27 as actual visits.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. No post says it waited. Three say they walked straight in, but they came at 9:30 on a weekend before opening, at 1:30 after the lunch crowd, and just before last order. One post found the room nearly full at lunch and others advise avoiding noon, but no one recorded queuing. We do not know how long a peak-hour wait runs.
  2. You order and pay through the QR code on the table; five posts said so. Several quoted a notice under the menu saying the dough is made only after you order. In practice one post found the food slow and two said it came quickly.
  3. A family place. Ten posts came with family, six of them with children, and three ordered short-rib soup or pork for kids who would not eat noodles. The dining area is split into three rooms with four- and six-seat tables and group seating.
  4. Four posts said the boiled pork had no off smell. It comes with seasoned raw pollack, and posts kept describing laying it on the pork and wrapping both in noodles.
3 more
  1. Six posts found the portions generous, from a bowl of noodles they barely finished to a heaped plate of pork. One said it is enough for one adult but may fall short for a big eater.
  2. Eight posts called the owner or staff friendly. One asked about the iced kettle and was told it is broth for the mixed noodles; another was invited inside to wait before opening on a hot day.
  3. Four posts ate looking out from window seats, describing a separate room walled in glass. A stream runs past the yard, and two posts saw dogs playing there.

Parking

18 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park18 of 26 posts

Plenty of parking, but a tight approach. Eighteen posts parked in front and eleven called the lot spacious. Six warned that the lane or the little bridge in is narrow, one noting countless scrape marks on the bridge and another saying you must wait if a car is coming the other way. Five suggested leaving the car at the Cheoksan sports center lot next door and walking down.

Where it is

Map showing where Beombawi Makguksu is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

No one said what floor the dining room is on or whether there are steps inside. The one mention of stairs is the path down from the sports center lot.

No one mentioned a step at the door or coming in with a wheelchair or stroller. One post noted the yard is laid with coarse gravel. That is silence, not a 'no'.

That the restroom is indoors and split by gender appears only in copied info blocks. One post found the sports facility next door while using the restroom, which leaves its location unclear; no one described it firsthand.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Ten posts from mid-August to October 2026 repeat the same lines in the same order: a second-generation, fifty-year local noodle house, paired with the foot spa. One disclosed a writing fee and one a free meal, both naming the same travel agency. We counted them because each records an actual meal, but note how much of the praise falls in that window.
  • We treat 'fifty years' and 'second generation' as the shop's own slogan, not evidence. One post looked it up and found it opened in 2009, changed owner and name in 2011, and moved here from near Yeongnangho Lake in 2015, then asked what the 46 years refers to. Another heard the same about the move, and one warned that navigation apps still lead to the old site.
  • Read prices by date. Noodles are 10,000 won in posts from August 2025, and a June 2026 post said that was 1,000 won more than a year before. The sides rose 1,000 won each between the June 2026 menu (dumplings 9,000, sorghum cakes 10,000, crepe rolls 12,000, rib soup 11,000) and posts from August 2026 on (10,000, 11,000, 13,000, 12,000). Six posts called it good value and one thought the soup pricey until it arrived. Two bowls plus dumplings for two comes to about 30,000 won.
  • Fifteen posts list hours of 10:30 to 18:00, mostly copied from listings. Four say weekends open at 10:00, and one family arrived at 9:30 on a weekend to wait for that opening. Eleven posts name Wednesday as the day off; one says open every day of the year and one says daily. Seven give last order as 17:40, one as 17:30. One post found the pork sold out near closing.
  • Ten posts give the phone number as 0507-1441-2628; one gives 033-636-2626. No one wrote about booking by phone; 'reservations' appears only in copied listing details.
  • No post arrived by bus; everyone drove, about ten minutes from the Seoraksan park entrance. Whether it is reachable by public transport we cannot say.
  • No post clearly came with friends or alone. Ten came with family, and two skipped the drinks because they were driving.
