Chinese

Okei Junghwa Yori

오케이중화요리 OK is the English word 'okay' written in Hangul; junghwa yori simply means Chinese cooking.

Compiled from 15 blog posts read in fullSources →

A Chinese restaurant in a two-storey building with a red sign, right at the entrance to Hwacheon market in Hwacheon-eup. Jajangmyeon is 7,000 won and jjamppong 9,000; eight visits ordered Set 4 (mini sweet-and-sour pork plus one of each noodle, 25,000 won) and split it between two. Pickled radish and onion come to the table, and refills are from a self-serve bar. Several posts note a crowd of locals and soldiers, and some families came on a son's leave from the nearby base. We read 18 posts from February 2025 to October 2026; three were about other places, leaving 15, all actual visits. None of the 15 says whether it was sponsored.

Rows without a count: 6 of 9 posts.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Extra side dishes come from a self-serve bar. Six posts describe it: pickled radish, onion and kimchi, plus small plates, scissors and disposable aprons. Kimchi isn't brought to the table, so you fetch it yourself; one November 2025 post said you had to ask the staff for it.
  2. Eight posts say the portions are large: Set 4 was plenty for two, and even the mini and medium sweet-and-sour pork were bigger than expected. One post differs, saying a plain jajangmyeon might leave a grown man a little short.
  3. Nine posts say the sweet-and-sour pork stays crisp even though the sauce is poured on. Three describe it as halfway between old-style and glutinous-rice batter, three say the meat is thick, and three say it has no off smell. The sauce carries wood-ear mushroom, pineapple, carrot and cucumber. One dip-style fan was sorry it came pre-sauced.
  4. Three posts mention high chairs, and two of them also note disposable aprons or children's tableware. Two families with small children gave the kids black-bean sauce over rice.

Parking

1 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot1 of 15 posts

The restaurant has no lot of its own. One visitor parked in the free public lot behind it; three others found no space out front and used the public lot by the market or the side streets, noting it's easier when the market isn't running. Info-box lines like 'parking available' were copied text and not counted.

Getting inside

Second floor7 of 15 posts
In a basementyes 0 · no 1 (of 15 posts read)

There is a separate upstairs above the ground-floor hall. Seven posts mention it, and one more only thought there might be one. Four say it has private rooms; one counted two tables in the middle hall and three private rooms. That same post put the ground floor at about six tables, and another counted six or seven and called it smaller than expected. Groups are sent upstairs; one visitor could only photograph the second floor because the first was full.

We don't know whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. Nobody wrote about it, which doesn't mean it isn't so. One post says the second floor is reached by stairs, and no one mentions a lift. One post confirms the main hall is at street level.

We don't know whether the toilet is inside or whether it is split by gender. One post only says it was clean.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Opinions on heat are split. Five posts call the jjamppong broth spicy or sharp; one says it is mild enough for people who avoid heat. Two that said 'moderately spicy' were not counted either way.
  • No one wrote about arriving by bus. Two posts say it's close to the Hwacheon bus terminal, one within a three-minute walk, but as directions, not as their own trip. Six posts came by car.
  • Nobody reported waiting, but four posts found the ground floor full even after lunch: one just before 2 pm, one that got the last free table. Another visited during the Sancheoneo (mountain trout) Ice Festival and found it hectic.
  • The hours changed between November 2025 and early 2026. The November 2025 post gave an 11:00 opening with a 15:00-16:30 break Tuesday to Saturday; posts from February 2026 give Tue-Fri 10:00-21:00, Sat 09:00-21:00, Sun 09:00-19:30, closed Mondays, and one says there is no break. All of these are copied info boxes. One post has both weekend days at 09:00-21:00, one has Saturday opening at 10:00, and an October 2026 post gives last orders at 19:40 (Sunday 18:10).
  • Five posts say prices are reasonable, pointing to the 7,000-won jajangmyeon, and four posts from November 2025 to May 2026 give that same price. Five mention a 20% local-voucher refund for soldiers paying with their service card, but as copied or hearsay; no one says they got it. Nobody restated the prices of Sets 1, 2, 3 or 5 after 2025.
  • Seven posts give the same phone number, 033-442-2350. No one actually made a reservation; one only heard that the upstairs gets many group bookings.
