Haeoreum Hyugeso
해오름휴게소 Haeoreum means 'sunrise' — the sun climbing up — and hyugeso means a roadside rest stop; it sits at the top of the Haesan pass, right past Haesan Tunnel.
Compiled from 15 blog posts read in fullSources →
A rest stop and restaurant at the top of the Haesan pass in Hwacheon, right at the exit of Haesan Tunnel — about 11 km before the Peace Dam, with the Bisugumi trail starting across the road, so many people stop before or after the hike. The signature is mountain-greens bibimbap served in a big carved wooden bowl, 12,000 won; potato pancake, acorn jelly and acorn-jelly noodles are 10,000 won each, as is the ginseng makgeolli. We read 27 posts from December 2024 to October 2026; 16 describe actually eating or drinking here, and most of the rest mention it only as the trailhead.

What sets it apart
- Three posts asked for more and got it. A May 2026 post was told to speak up if it wasn't enough, and the 'little extra' came out looking like two portions; another refilled the side dishes several times; a third asked for more same-day fatsia shoots and was given a heap, told it was the last of them.
- Three posts describe the owners handing something over for free: two were given freshly steamed corn to take on the hike or ride, and a May 2026 post got gomchwi leaves, a four-leaf clover and a bag of scorched-rice crisps for the drive home.
- Three posts mention outdoor tables in the yard, one praising the cool mountain breeze on the terrace. Inside there is a wood stove; two posts found it lit in late March and late April.
- Two posts were given something to drink at no charge: a March 2025 visitor got gorosoe maple sap instead of water, and a June 2025 visitor finished with magnolia tea poured from a steel bowl into paper cups.

Parking
6 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Six posts parked in the lot out front, one of them with a club's coach bus; one calls it a wide lot. It doubles as the Bisugumi trailhead car park, so several other posts parked here just to hike, without eating.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.
Getting inside
| Toilet inside | yes 0 · no 1 (of 15 posts read) |

Nobody wrote about floors or levels. The descriptions suggest a single-storey lodge you walk into from the yard, but no post says so.
No post mentions a step at the entrance, stairs, or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. That means we don't know, not that it is step-free.
Only one post describes the toilet: an August 2026 visitor found it in the yard, outside the building, not clean, and suggested the one at the Bisugumi trail entrance instead. One other post just says there is a public toilet out front.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 19 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Nobody arrived by public transport: visitors came by car or on a chartered club or company bus, and one walked over the pass from Yanggu. We don't know whether a bus gets you here.
- No post describes waiting for a table; one jokingly asks readers not to make it busy. Booking shows up twice: one group reserved lunch before setting off on the trail, and another arrived at 11:20 to find the kitchen busy preparing for reserved parties.
- No post confirms opening hours. One says they vary and to call ahead, guessing it usually runs until about 3 p.m.; another found no hours posted at all. Closing days are unknown too.
- Three posts give the phone number as 070-4126-3717; one March 2025 post lists 033-442-3014 instead. Two posts show that reservations are taken, but neither says which number they called.
- Prices match between an October 2024 menu and a May 2026 receipt: bibimbap 12,000 won, potato pancake 10,000 — so two bibimbaps and a pancake come to 34,000 won. Nobody called it expensive; one post wondered whether the herbal tea was worth it. The ginseng-mushroom chicken is 100,000 won.
