Hoengseong Hanwoopia

횡성한우피아 The name joins Hoengseong, the county famous for its beef, with hanwoo, Korea's native cattle, and the ending -pia.

Compiled from 23 blog posts read in fullSources →

A butcher-counter beef restaurant right in front of KTX Dunnae Station in Hoengseong County, Gangwon. You choose vacuum-packed 1++ Hoengseong hanwoo at the counter by the entrance, pay first, then grill it yourself over charcoal in the hall or a private room; many posts note there is no table-setting charge. July and September 2026 posts list ribeye, tenderloin, striploin and top blade at 35,200 won per 150g, brisket at 24,000 and chuck flap at 58,500, with the actual bill set by pack weight. Most tables finish with naengmyeon (9,000 won) or doenjang stew; some skip the grill and just have galbitang (18,000), yukhoe bibimbap (12,000) or bulgogi hot pot. A café occupies the second floor of the same building. We read 30 posts dated 30 January to 23 October 2026; 23 describe an actual visit, the rest being five posts from the restaurant's own blog, one list post and a one-line mention.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. You can get there without a car: the restaurant faces Dunnae Station, and two posts say members of their party came by KTX, one from Seoul Station on the KTX-Eum.
  2. Nine posts mention private rooms besides the main hall, and several ate in one. Two say they booked ahead; one arrived at 12:30 to a full hall and was shown straight to the reserved room. Another notes the window-side room looks out on the hills.
  3. Eight posts say they saw the Hoengseong hanwoo quality certificate at the counter or the signboard at the entrance; one describes a notice explaining how to verify the beef with the traceability app. The restaurant's own '100% Hoengseong hanwoo' slogan is its claim and we did not count it.
  4. Four posts went with children. A family with a 13-month-old found several plastic and wooden high chairs and appreciated the private rooms; another said the doenjang stew was mild enough for kids.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 1 (of 23 posts read)

The restaurant is on the ground floor: one post says it uses the first floor of a two-storey building with a coffee shop upstairs, and several diners went up to the café afterwards.

No post describes the entrance step or getting in with a wheelchair or pushchair; one post's copied info block lists wheelchair access, but nobody reports it firsthand. That means nobody wrote about it, not that it isn't there.

No post mentions the toilets, whether they are inside or separated by gender. We don't know.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 7 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opinions on price split five to three in favour of 'reasonable'. One diner called it wicked, paying 190,000 won for three packs; a party of three spent about 300,000 won and got half back through a regional travel subsidy; another paid around 270,000 won for three sirloin-family packs and mushrooms. The 10% resident discount and 15% takeout discount are copied from listings and unverified.
  • Eleven posts praise the juiciness, but one disagrees: it found little juice, compared the meat to an all-you-can-eat place and said it would not return. Another called the flavour merely ordinary. Sponsored posts are among those doing the praising.
  • Much of the coverage is promotional: two posts disclose payment, two disclose a free meal voucher, and two further groups of posts share identical wording and structure without disclosure. Only three say they paid their own way. Read the uniformly glowing passages with that in mind.
  • Opening hours vary slightly between posts: 14 of 19 give 10:00-21:00 daily with last order at 20:00, the two voucher posts say 11:00-21:00, and three template posts say 10:20-21:30. One post says there is no regular closing day, and several note early closing when stock runs out. Call 033-342-9940 to confirm.
  • No post mentions waiting. Two found it quiet on a weekday or at a late lunch; others describe a packed hall at lunchtime but no queue. We don't know about weekend evenings. Two posts booked ahead, so reservations are taken.
  • The restaurant's blog and two posts mention a pickup service for guests at local lodgings, but no one reports using it. The mixed platter is also disputed: one post said there was none, while the September 2026 menu lists it at 40,000 won per person (two-person minimum).
