Yuseong Chrysanthemum Festival

유성국화축제

This edition · Data as of · Published ·

A free festival in Daejeon that fills Yurim Park and the Yuseong stream banks — next to the Yuseong hot-spring district — with chrysanthemums and pink muhly grass: flower sculptures of the Eiffel Tower, a giant robot and the city mascot, bonsai halls, and lit paths after dark. Many come late afternoon and stay into the evening. The 2026 festival (the 17th) runs 17 October – 1 November, 10:00–22:00, free. We read Korean blog posts from people who went in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

What 30 visitors said

We searched Naver, the blog platform most Koreans use, for 30 posts around each year's festival, read every one to the end, kept only people who went (25, 19 and 14), and took ten per year. Sponsored and official-supporter posts were dropped and no writer is counted twice. Every number counts the posts that mentioned something.

Who goes, and when

Mostly locals: families with children, couples, friends, people dropping in after work and dog walkers. 15 of the 30 posts call it crowded, especially weekend evenings and opening night; weekday daytimes were calm. Ten posts say it is best after dark. The flowers were often not fully out in the first week (8 posts); late October is the peak.

Visiting from abroad

None of the posts mention foreign visitors and the information is in Korean only — but it needs none. Daejeon is under an hour from Seoul by KTX; from Daejeon station take Metro Line 1 to Wolpyeong or Gapcheon and walk. Pair it with the Yuseong hot springs next door. Some snack stalls take cash only.

Weather and crowds

Mild by day but chilly once the sun goes down — bring a jacket, or a blanket for the children, if you stay for the lights.

Getting there and access

Parking is the main problem. The park's own lots fill fast; people used the Yuseong district office across the road, KAIST (free at weekends and after 6pm on weekdays) or the Homeplus supermarket (free if you shop), then walked 10–15 minutes. Several recommend public transport: walk from Wolpyeong or Gapcheon station on Daejeon Metro Line 1, or take a city bus to Yuseong-gu Office. Daejeon's public bikes (Tashu) work too.

Paths have no steps and work with pushchairs and wheelchairs (not the lawn activity area). The info desk lends wheelchairs and pushchairs, though one post waited 40 minutes for a wheelchair in 2023. Cars with disabled passengers or infants could use the near car park. Toilets were clean and there are plenty of benches. Dogs on leads are welcome.

Year by year

Autumn 2023

13 October – 5 November. A flower Eiffel Tower and windmill, stepping stones across the stream and a lit waterfall under the bridge.

Autumn 2024

18 October – 3 November. Wider pink muhly paths and a new stamp trail (prizes underwhelmed); rain cancelled the opening drone and fireworks show.

Autumn 2025

18 October – 2 November. A star-studded opening concert followed by drones and fireworks drew record crowds; no beer on sale.

Tips from people who went

  • Arrive around sunset (5–7pm) and stay for the lights
  • Park at KAIST or Homeplus, or take the metro
  • Children's craft stalls run in daytime only
  • A warm layer for the evening
  • Start on the west side, then the east; pick up a map
  • On opening night watch the drones from the river bridges
  • A picnic mat and snacks
