What 7 visitors said

This year's dates, venue and programme come from the Korea Tourism Organization listing and the Yanggu Cultural Foundation website. For past experience we searched Korean blogs each year: - 2023: read 19, kept 6 - 2024: read 30, none from actual visitors - 2025: read 30, kept 1 Everything from blogs describes earlier years; where it clashes with this year's notice, the notice wins.

What people liked

Cheap cook-it-yourself stalls4 of 7 posts

Past visitors made their own pizza, burgers, croffles or rice triangles for ₩1,000–2,000 and found it good fun with children. 23-12 23-14 23-16 25-29

Plenty of events and freebies5 of 7 posts

Showing a purchase receipt, hunting for prizes or collecting stamps from Yanggu's three festivals earned small gifts in past years. 23-12 23-14 23-15 23-16 25-29

Punchbowl basin scenery4 of 7 posts

Visitors liked the mountain-ringed basin and walking the stalls laid out around the pond. 23-12 23-13 23-15 23-16

More than apples and siraegi2 of 7 posts

Many farm stalls, also selling wild greens, bellflower root and deodeok. 23-15 25-29

Live concerts3 of 7 posts

The opening concert and guest singers gave the site a lively atmosphere. 23-13 23-14 23-16

What people struggled with

It is cold up there2 of 7 posts

Temperatures drop noticeably once you enter the basin; visitors needed warm layers. 23-12 23-14

Saturday crowds and parking3 of 7 posts

On the opening Saturday, fan-club coaches and crowds jammed the road and filled the car parks. 23-13 23-14 23-16

Popular items sell out2 of 7 posts

Apple cheese and festival goods ran out before some visitors got there. 23-14 23-16

These are raw counts, not percentages. Someone who did not mention something is not someone who disagreed.

Who goes, and when

Mostly families: in past years parents with young children, couples with in-laws and groups of friends, plus coachloads of fans following the guest singers. It is a local, Korean-speaking crowd.

Visiting from abroad

No English signage or interpretation is mentioned anywhere, and none of the posts mentioned foreign visitors. There is no booking: entry is free and in past years activities were paid for on the spot. Phone enquiries (033-482-9174) are likely Korean only.

Weather and crowds

The basin sits high among mountains and feels colder than Yanggu town, so bring a warm coat. In past years the opening Saturday was the busiest day; Sunday had easier parking but some goods had sold out. This year's run includes a Friday; we found no reports of weekday crowds.

Getting there and access

The site is a further drive beyond Yanggu town, through the Dolsanryeong tunnel and down a winding road into Haean-myeon (one child got carsick). Past visitors came by car; on Saturdays the car parks filled up, with the largest behind Punchbowl Healing House. We could not confirm bus links, and no shuttle has been announced. If you take a taxi from Yanggu, show the driver the Korean destination below.

Neither the blogs nor the official listing mention wheelchair access, pushchairs or toilets. Stalls ring an outdoor pond, so ask the organiser (033-482-9174, Korean) about paths before you go.

Year by year

Autumn 2023

2023 ran for just two days, 28–29 October. Highlights included guest-singer concerts and fireworks, ₩2,000 pizza/burger/croffle making, a ball-pit prize hunt, wishes hung on siraegi drying racks, free photo booths, slow-post Christmas cards, rice-cake pounding and a goods box for visiting all three Yanggu festivals. Reusable dishes were collected at return points.

Autumn 2025

2025 ran 31 October–2 November. Siraegi rice-triangle and candy-apple making cost ₩1,000 each, biscuit decorating was free, and siraegi gukbap (₩10,000) and bibimbap (₩8,000) were on sale. Receipts over ₩10,000 and a visitor survey each earned a small gift.

Tips from people who went

  • Dress warmly; the basin is colder than the town.
  • Saturday parking was hard; arrive early or go Friday or Sunday.
  • Goods and popular food sold out later in the run.
  • Past years rewarded receipts, surveys and festival stamps with gifts; check this year's on site.
  • The ₩1,000–2,000 cooking stalls were a hit with children.
