A one-night fireworks show in Paju, north-west of Seoul, started by local residents in 2017. The 8th edition is on Saturday 31 October 2026 at Unjeong Lake Park: street performances and activity booths from 14:00, opening ceremony and lighting at 18:50, fireworks 19:30–19:50. In 2025 a small seated zone by the opening ceremony was booked online in advance (free, up to four tickets each) and sold out; every other viewing area was open without booking. Whether 2026 has bookable seats is not yet announced.

Weather and crowds

The 2023 (4 Nov) and 2025 (1 Nov) editions fell at the same time of year as this one; 2024 was in late September and felt hot. 6 of the 10 posts we picked from 2025 mentioned afternoon rain or a cold night. Lakeside evenings get chilly, so bring a warm layer. Crowds build in the evening: quiet at 17:30, packed by 19:00. To avoid the crush, arrive during the afternoon programme, or skip the fireworks and visit the light garden on another evening (lit nightly until 31 December).

Getting there and access

Past visitors mostly took the train to Yadang Station (Gyeongui–Jungang Line) and walked to the park. Leave the car and walk from Yadang Station. 11 of the 30 posts we picked described parking trouble or traffic jams: park car parks were full before dusk and roads stayed jammed afterwards. One visitor could not get a taxi at all, so plan to return by train or bus. Shuttle buses and road closures for 2026 have not been announced.

None of the posts we picked mentioned wheelchairs or pushchairs, and the official listing gives no step-free information. Past visitors describe paths, bridges and crossings packed solid before the fireworks, with police closing some side paths, so with a wheelchair or pushchair arrive early and settle at the edge of an open lawn. 2 of the 30 posts we picked said the toilets were far away with long queues.

Year by year

Autumn 2023

2023 ran on Saturday 4 November only, with a taekwondo display, a concert by singer Kim Jang-hoon, a special musical fountain show and light sculptures. 4 of the 10 posts we picked from 2023 said the fireworks started late, by about 15 minutes.

Autumn 2024

2024 ran on Saturday 28 September only, earlier than usual, and added a drone show. 10 of the 10 posts we picked from 2024 complained of misfires or long gaps, often alongside the late start and lack of announcements. The finale was still widely praised.

Autumn 2025

2025 ran on Saturday 1 November only, themed 'Light of Hope'. Opening ceremony at 19:00, fireworks at 19:35, and a new free bookable ceremony seating zone; there was no drone show. 4 of the 10 posts we picked from 2025 said it started on time or had almost no misfires.

Tips from people who went

  • Arrive before dusk to claim a spot; in past years the good places were gone about an hour before the fireworks.
  • Bring a picnic mat or folding chair; the ground was wet after rain one year.
  • Pack a warm coat, a blanket, hand warmers and a hot drink in a flask.
  • Food on site was scarce and nearby cafés had long queues, so bring snacks.
  • Mobile signal drops around showtime; agree a meeting point in advance.
  • Use the toilet before the show starts.
  • It is very loud; bring ear defenders for small children.
  • Visitors recommended the Soricheon stream side, the south of the lake and the bridge into the park for clear views. Viewing zones change yearly, so check this year's site map.
