Tongyeong is one of Korea's great seafood ports, famous for its oysters, and this three-day food festival fills the Triathlon Plaza on its waterfront with dozens of seafood stalls. You eat oyster cutlets, sea-squirt bibimbap, conger eel and whole fried rockfish, most dishes ₩5,000–15,000. The first edition in 2024 was organised with celebrity restaurateur Baek Jong-won's company and was famously overrun; 2025 brought seven TV chefs and a much smoother operation. The 2026 edition teams up with Busan's Port Village harbour food festival and runs 6–8 November (Friday to Sunday) on the same plaza, entry free. We searched Naver, the blog platform most Koreans use, for posts written during each festival and the month after (30 each for 2024 and 2025), read every one to the end, kept only people who went (25 and 18), and took ten per year. Seven of the 20 posts are couples; others went with parents, with children, or alone. One drove over six hours from Seoul; several made a weekend of it with the Tongyeong cable car and luge. Friday morning on the opening day was quietest in 2025; Saturday afternoon was busiest, and numbers rose again at dusk.

Visiting from abroad

None of the posts mention foreign visitors or English signs. In 2025 most stalls took orders at kiosks with a KakaoTalk message when food was ready — if you have no Korean number, stay near the stall — and helpers stood by the kiosks. Cards were accepted (one writer advises having one ready). Food is easy to point at, and it pairs well with the cable car and luge on a Tongyeong weekend.

Weather and crowds

The 2024 opening day was wind and rain all day with no shelter — people ate standing or gave up. In 2025 a vast canopy kept off rain and sun; days were warm, but the sea breeze turned chilly after sunset. In 2024 some queued 90 minutes just to get in; in 2025 the larger space meant crowds felt manageable.

Getting there and access

Parking and shuttle details for 2026 had not been announced when we checked on 4 October. In past years the car parks beside the plaza were full even at weekday lunchtime, and free shuttles (every 20 minutes in 2025) ran from temporary car parks such as Jinnam Elementary School, the former Sina SB shipyard and the Skyline Luge car park. The ferry-terminal car park was the closest. Writers found the festival Instagram's live parking updates useful. Without a car, local bus 101 goes there; from Seoul, one writer recommends the express bus to Tongyeong rather than driving.

In 2025 there were toilets, a baby room and accessible facilities; in 2024 toilets and a first-aid post. In the 2024 rain the unpaved temporary car park turned to puddles.

Year by year

Autumn 2024

1–3 November, the first edition. Huge expectations; on a rain-lashed first day there was no shelter or queue management and the organisers later apologised. Most writers still praised the food and prices.

Autumn 2025

24–26 October. Most writers said it was transformed: a giant canopy, double the seats, kiosks. The celebrity-chef stalls had the longest queues and some found them not worth the wait.
