What 5 visitors said

We searched blogs for this festival year by year: 1 post read for 2023 (none from actual visits), 6 for 2024 (1 visit) and 29 for 2025 (7 visits). We picked the 5 most detailed first-hand accounts (1 from 2024, 4 from 2025). Facts about 2026 come only from the Korea Tourism Organization listing, last updated 12 October 2026.

What people liked

A rare look inside the 1st Marine Division4 of 5 posts

Last year's visitors most valued getting inside a normally closed base: kit on display, climbing onto tanks, trying on uniforms. 25-22 25-24 25-25 25-26

Plenty for children5 of 5 posts

Face painting, child-size uniforms, bouncy castles, fitness challenges and a litter-picking booth that swapped rubbish for snacks kept children busy. 24-03 25-22 25-24 25-25 25-26

Helpful, friendly Marines3 of 5 posts

Marines staffed each exhibit, explained things patiently and helped children onto vehicles. 25-24 25-25 25-26

A good spread of food trucks4 of 5 posts

Skewers, fried chicken, kebabs and churros from a row of food trucks; reasonably priced and well liked. 24-03 25-22 25-25 25-26

Ration tasting3 of 5 posts

Small cups of military rations were a hit, though one family found the spoons had run out early. 25-24 25-25 25-26

Parachute display3 of 5 posts

The parachute drop, with Marines descending onto the site, was a memorable moment. 24-03 25-25 25-26

Clean, tidy site2 of 5 posts

Bins everywhere and reusable-cup collection kept the streets clean. 25-24 25-25

What people struggled with

Saturday is packed3 of 5 posts

Last year's Saturday was crammed from the entrance to the main gate, and seats filled well before the headline concert. 25-22 25-24 25-25

Popular activities queue or close early3 of 5 posts

Face painting meant long waits (and a lunch break), and tank rides closed early. 25-24 25-25 25-26

No parking near the site5 of 5 posts

Roads around the site were closed and there was no parking at the base; people used outlying car parks and shuttle buses, or came without a car. 24-03 25-22 25-24 25-25 25-26

These are raw counts, not percentages. Someone who did not mention something is not someone who disagreed.

Who goes, and when

Of the 5 posts we picked: two families with children, one pair of friends, one flea-market stallholder who stayed both days, and one visitor who did not say who came along. Last year's crowd spanned all ages, including a singer's fan club arriving by shuttle.

Who they went with

1 of the 5 posts did not say.

Visiting from abroad

The official listing mentions no English signage or interpreters, and no booking; it appears to be walk-in. 1 of the 5 posts mentioned a US Marine Corps booth running a pull-up challenge; none mentioned foreign tourists. Much of the festival is inside a military base and we could not confirm whether ID is checked, so carry your passport. Staff at the main information desk are your best bet for help; a translation app will be useful.

Weather and crowds

No forecast yet. Last year (15 November) was clear with strong sun, good for walking; sunglasses were recommended. A 2024 stallholder found the unshaded stalls very hot. Everyone who went on last year's Saturday described it as packed, with seats full before the headline concert. The 2024 stallholder found day two quieter than day one, so Sunday or an early start may be calmer, though we have no first-hand Sunday account from 2025.

Getting there and access

The 2026 listing confirms road closures and shuttle buses but has not yet published car parks or pick-up points. Last year there was no parking at the base; shuttles ran from three temporary car parks (outside Indeok Elementary School, Wonri temporary public car park and Ocheon High School). The easiest option for most first-timers is a train or express bus to Pohang, then a taxi to the Seomun crossroads on Marine Street; expect to be dropped short of the closed roads and walk the last stretch. If driving, park at a temporary car park and take the shuttle.

The 2026 listing promises an information desk, first-aid post, nursing room and rest areas. Only 1 of the 5 posts mentioned wheelchairs or pushchairs: last year the main information desk lent both, and pallets were laid over the muddy parade ground. Portable toilets, including women-only cubicles, stood behind the fitness area and between buildings; the history hall has none. We could not confirm whether loans will run this year.

Year by year

Autumn 2024

We could not confirm the official 2024 dates. In 1 account from a flea-market stallholder, the central stage hosted cheerleading, skipping and violin acts alongside a parachute display, with the main stage inside the base. Stalls had no shade and it was very hot; stallholders could not drive in and had no dedicated parking.

Autumn 2025

2025 ran 15–16 November; all 4 accounts are from the Saturday. Singer Song Ga-in headlined inside the base to a full house. Other features: a US Marine Corps pull-up booth, ration tasting, litter-picking for snacks, paintball shooting, the Dosol Hall exhibition and a paid activity zone. Three temporary car parks fed shuttle buses.

Tips from people who went

  • Check car parks, shuttle stops and the timetable before you go.
  • Tank rides close early: head for the vehicles inside the base first.
  • Avoid the lunch break for face painting.
  • Check band and honour-guard times in advance; people missed them last year.
  • Seating near the food trucks is scarce; grab a spot first.
  • The base is large: comfortable shoes and sunglasses.
  • The history hall has no toilets; go beforehand.
