Namsan Night Festival

남산 나이트 페스티벌

This edition · Data as of · Published ·

A new autumn-night festival from the Seoul city government on Namsan, the wooded hill in the middle of the city topped by N Seoul Tower. It has three parts: Namsan Campnic — pre-pitched tents and picnic mats on the lawn of Baekbeom Square with a live radio show, buskers and an open-air film, six Friday and Saturday nights from 23 October to 7 November; the Autumn Foliage Walk, a guided evening walk through the trees from Namsan Yejang Park (23–24 October and 6–7 November); and Palgak Club, a silent disco on wireless headphones in front of Palgakjeong pavilion next to the tower on 14 November. Everything is free, but all three need advance booking and a refundable deposit (₩10,000 per Campnic team, ₩5,000 per person for the other two), returned once you have turned up. Because the festival is new there are no visitor accounts yet — this page is written from official sources only.

What’s on

From the organisers' official website and notices and the Seoul city press release (checked 19 October; Palgak Club page checked 30 October). All three programmes are booking-only; the deposit is refunded once your attendance is confirmed on the night. Campnic was declared fully booked on 14 October, but cancelled slots reappear on Naver Booking in real time, and if space is left after advance booking closes the organisers accept on-site sign-up. Performance and screening times can change, so check the notices before you go. Palgak Club booking opens 2 November at 10:00. Its official page now describes the programme simply as silent DJ sets; no DJ names have been announced. A separate free night-trekking event, 반짝반짝 남산밤길 (“Sparkling Namsan Night Road”, our translation), runs 21 October–21 November, 19:00–21:00, from Namsangol Hanok Village up to N Seoul Tower with on-site registration — it is not part of this festival.

Visiting from abroad

The official site has a full English version (programmes, booking notes, FAQ, notices) and the Seoul press release says registration is open to international visitors. A pop-up on the official site says there is a separate booking for foreign visitors, run for non-Korean participants, and asks Koreans not to use it — but we could not find where that booking is made; the only link we could see goes to Naver Booking, which normally needs a Naver account. Email the organisers in English ([email protected]) to ask. Deposits are refunded only after you are checked in on the night, so bring your booking details and ID. Whether staff will speak English on site has not been announced. The radio show's story-request form is bilingual and reserves one sponsored tent for an international team.

Weather and crowds

You will be sitting on a hillside lawn after dark. Seoul's average overnight low is 10.6°C in October and 3.5°C in November (KMA normals, 1991–2020), so expect single digits on festival nights. The organisers themselves warn that evening temperatures drop sharply and ask you to bring a thick coat, gloves and a scarf (each Campnic team gets two blankets). Rain or snow can cancel the event for safety, and strong wind or a cold snap can shorten it or change the walk route — cancellations are posted on the official website. For the walk, wear non-slip shoes: the organisers say fallen leaves and damp stairs get slippery.

Getting there and access

Come by public transport. The organisers provide no parking and no parking vouchers. There are three venues.

  • Namsan Campnic — Baekbeom Square, Namsan Park (100-115 Hoehyeon-dong 1-ga, Jung-gu). Visit Seoul gives Hoehyeon station (line 4) exit 4, about 530 m. The Namsan circular bus 01A (board at Chungmuro station exit 2, among other stops) stops at Baekbeom Square (Seoul city information).
  • Autumn Foliage Walk — starts at Namsan Yejang Park (5-22 Juja-dong), which the city's English press release places at Myeongdong station (line 4) exit 1. Course 1 ends at the Namsan Library entrance, Course 2 at Namsangol Hanok Village (Chungmuro station); the organisers mention no shuttle back to the start.
  • Palgak Club — Palgakjeong pavilion (8-1 Yejang-dong), right beside N Seoul Tower. Take the Namsan Cable Car (10:00–23:00 per its website, checked 19 October; fares not confirmed by us; the lower station is at 83 Sopa-ro, reached from Myeongdong station exit 3) or bus 01A/01B to the N Seoul Tower stop.

Food delivery riders cannot enter the Campnic site — orders go to a pick-up zone in the Hohyeondang courtyard and you collect them yourself.

The organisers have published nothing specific about wheelchairs or pushchairs (checked 19 October). From the official course notes: Walk Course 1 (3.8 km) uses the barrier-free wooden deck of the Sky Forest Trail but still has three stairway sections; Course 2 (4.2 km) has a long continuous downhill staircase, and the organisers advise anyone with knee or joint trouble to avoid it. Children and anyone who needs help walking must be accompanied. Campnic tents take up to four adults and babies are welcome. Toilet locations are not given in the official material.
