What 9 visitors said

This year's facts come from the Korea Tourism Organization listing (updated 21 October 2026). None of the chosen posts was sponsored.

Who goes, and when

Past visitors were a mix of couples, families with children, adults bringing their parents and groups of friends. Children reportedly loved the tower projections, the drone show (2024) and the moon-and-rabbit light photo spot, and school-age visitors came from far afield to combine the trip with the history museum.

Visiting from abroad

The official listing has no English information or programmes aimed at foreign visitors, and 0 of the 9 visitor posts we read mentioned foreign visitors or English signage. No booking is mentioned and entry is listed as free. Expect Korean-only signs and announcements; the trail itself is a simple loop. Enquiries: Independence Hall, 041-560-0114 (Korean).

Weather and crowds

We can't forecast this year. Past visitors found evenings cold and windy enough to cut walks short, so bring a warm layer. Most posts described crowds, especially on weekend evenings and in the car park. In 2024 and 2025, however, the festival lasted a single weekend; this year it is spread over five, so it may be calmer. Posts from Friday visits did not mention crowds. The maples often turned late, and several visitors reckoned mid-November weekends are best for red leaves.

Getting there and access

The official listing has no public transport, shuttle or parking details. Past visitors mostly drove and used the Independence Hall car parks (2,000 won per car, paid by Hi-Pass), with weekend-evening queues from the Mokcheon motorway exit and few free spaces. From the car park, walk towards the Tower of the Nation and take the steps beside the footbridge down past the ginkgo avenue to the trail entrance; signs were easy to follow. In 2023 a small road train (1,000 won one way) and shuttle ran every 30 minutes to Gyeoreui-jip hall; whether they run this year has not been announced. By taxi, show the driver 독립기념관 — the address takes you to the site.

Past visitors described the trail as a hilly loop of about 3km. Pushchairs could manage the climbs with effort; in 2024 other wheeled items (scooters, bikes) were banned but pushchairs allowed. A 2023 visitor recommended the road train or shuttle for anyone with limited mobility or small children. Toilets were at the trail entrance, the midway rest stop and opposite the Tower of the Nation, with a baby-care room in the main information centre. We could not confirm wheelchair access on the trail itself; the flat area around the ginkgo avenue near the entrance is an option for a short visit.

Year by year

Autumn 2023

2023 ran from 27 October to 12 November. The night opening (18:00–21:00) was new that year, alongside a chrysanthemum display at the entrance, a 'Milky Way' light tunnel, a media façade, an autumn walking photo contest and a road train to Gyeoreui-jip. An unusually warm autumn left the leaves drying out before they turned.

Autumn 2024

2024 was a two-day event, 26–27 October, with projections on the Tower of the Nation, an orchestral concert and a drone show featuring the national flag and flower. Pre-booked tent areas filled the space in front of the stage, blocking the view for everyone else.

Autumn 2025

2025 ran for two days, 1–2 November, with a local producers' market, a light show on the Tower of the Nation, stage performances and a moon-and-rabbit photo spot. The visitor found the maples almost entirely green.

Tips from people who went

  • Evenings get cold and windy; dress warmly.
  • Wear comfortable shoes: the loop is about 3km and hilly.
  • Past visitors suggested arriving before dusk, walking the trail in daylight, then staying for the 18:00 night opening.
  • A 2024 visitor found the restaurant stopped taking orders at 18:00, so eat early.
  • For red leaves, aim for the mid-November weekends.
  • If the local market runs, buy in the afternoon before it sells out.
  • Dogs were not allowed in 2023; this year's rule is unconfirmed.
