Hwasun Unju Cultural Festival
화순운주문화축제
This edition · Data as of · Published ·
The Hwasun Unju Cultural Festival is an autumn culture festival held in the grounds of Unjusa, a temple in rural Hwasun known for its many stone Buddhas and pagodas and its reclining Buddha. This year it runs on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November 2026, 10:00–17:00, and the official listing says admission is free. Planned items include a temple bell-ringing event, a local market, a Buddha statue unveiling, hands-on activities such as temple food and woodcraft, and music and folk performances. We read past visitors' blog posts but selected none as sources, so this page is based on the official Korea Tourism Organization listing only.

Visiting from abroad
The official listing mentions no English-language information or programmes for international visitors, and with no visitor posts selected we have no first-hand accounts from foreign visitors. No booking is mentioned for festival entry — you simply turn up. Individual activities such as temple food or woodcraft may have their own sign-up on the day; we could not confirm this.
Getting there and access
The official listing gives no public transport, parking or shuttle details. The venue is Unjusa temple in a rural valley in Doam-myeon, Hwasun County, so without a car a taxi from Hwasun town or Gwangju (the nearest large city) is the dependable option. Show the driver the Korean name 「운주사」 (Unjusa) rather than the address. Shuttle and parking arrangements have not been announced yet; check the Hwasun County website or call 061-373-5482 (likely Korean only) before you go. We have not been able to confirm step-free routes around the temple grounds.
