Goheung Yuja Festival

고흥유자축제

This edition · Data as of · Published ·

Goheung, on Korea's southern coast, grows most of the country's yuja (yuzu), and for four days in November the festival is held right in the orchards while the fruit is ripe. You walk paths between trees heavy with yellow fruit, pick your own, make yuja syrup and eat yuja-flavoured everything. The 2026 edition runs 12–15 November (Thursday to Sunday) at the festival grounds in Pungyang-myeon, Goheung; entry is free and some activities cost extra. It is a long way from any big city, so most people drive. We read Korean blog posts from people who went.

What 15 visitors said

We searched Naver, the blog platform most Koreans use, for posts written during each festival and the month after (30 each for 2023, 2024 and 2025), and read every one to the end. Keeping only people who actually went left none from 2023 (all were previews), ten from 2024 and five from 2025 — fifteen in all. Sponsored posts were dropped and no writer is counted twice. Every number counts the posts that mentioned something.

Signs and information are confusing3 of 15 posts

These are raw counts, not percentages. Someone who did not mention something is not someone who disagreed.

Who goes, and when

Mostly families with children, plus couples and people with their parents. Some drove two or three hours from Gwangju or Daejeon; one family camped nearby and came back the next day. On weekdays there are school and kindergarten groups. Days are for the orchards and activities, evenings for concerts and lights.

Visiting from abroad

One writer saw a group of foreign tourists who seemed to have come by tour bus in 2024. Nobody mentions English signs, and the festival has no English website, so expect Korean only. Most of it needs no language — walking the orchards, the free tastings and photo prints. Menus at the food tables list prices, and the yuja-picking stall supplies gloves and scissors. Pick up the paper map at the entrance: the stamp-tour points double as a route round the orchard.

Weather and crowds

It is the warm south coast, so November is mild — on the 2025 opening day one writer found it too hot for the orchard climb, and on the last day of 2024 it rained and people came anyway. Eight of the 15 posts call it crowded, and the car parks were full even on weekday mornings.

Getting there and access

Almost everyone drives. Put 고흥 유자공원 (Goheung Yuja Park) into your navigation app. P1 in front of the grounds is closest but fills early; after that come overflow lots P2–P8. Shuttle buses run from the far lots (every 20 minutes in 2025); one writer walked about 1km over a hill from P3. The overflow lots had no toilets. Parking is free. Without a car, get to Goheung bus terminal and take the festival bus from there — one visitor in 2025 found the terminal signs confusing, so ask staff.

One 2024 post says strollers and wheelchairs could be borrowed. The orchard paths and lookout involve slopes and some dirt tracks, and the P3 overflow lot was unpaved. Toilets near the entrance and along the boardwalk were described as clean; there are shaded seats and tables throughout and a bag drop at the entrance.

Year by year

Autumn 2024

7–10 November. Busy even on weekdays; the Saturday-night rock concert and drone show won raves. Local restaurants ran the food stalls at honest prices, though one visitor found activity prices differed from the leaflet.

Autumn 2025

6–9 November. A hot opening day with parking hard from the morning. The free yuja ramyun and photo prints were popular; one writer found it too commercial, with fewer yuja activities than hoped.

Tips from people who went

  • Arrive before 10am — even then P1 may be full
  • Navigate to 고흥 유자공원
  • The free yuja ramyun runs out before noon
  • Finish the stamp tour before 4pm — gifts are first come, first served
  • Book the makgeolli party in advance (₩15,000 in 2025)
  • Buy glass jars of yuja tea on your way out
  • Bring tissues and wet wipes
