Cheongsong Apple Festival

청송사과축제

This edition · Data as of · Published ·

Cheongsong, deep in the mountains of North Gyeongsang, grows some of Korea's most prized apples, and every late autumn it throws a five-day party for them on the banks of the Yongjeoncheon stream, under the Hyeonbiam cliff. There is a direct-from-the-farm apple market with tasting at every stall, cheap apple-themed games for children, trot-music concerts on the main stage, and fireworks every night. The 2026 edition, the 20th, runs 4–8 November; entry and parking are free. It pairs naturally with Juwangsan National Park's autumn colours. We read Korean blog posts from people who went in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

What 20 visitors said

We searched Naver, the blog platform most Koreans use, for posts written during each festival and the month after (18 for 2023, 16 for 2024, 30 for 2025), read every one to the end and kept only people who actually went. There were few, so we used all of them: 9 for 2023, 5 for 2024, 6 for 2025. Sponsored posts were dropped and no writer is counted twice. Every number counts the posts that mentioned something.

Who goes, and when

Families with young children are the biggest group, along with fans who drove a long way for an evening concert by their favourite trot singer. Several people stopped in on the way to Juwangsan's autumn leaves or an apple-picking farm. Most drove from Daegu, Ulsan or Seoul, spending the day at the games and market and the evening at the concert and fireworks.

Visiting from abroad

None of the Korean posts mention foreign visitors or English signs, and the official site is Korean only. In practice that matters less than you might think: the apples are priced and you can taste before you buy, most games are point-and-play, and the fireworks need no translation. Bring some cash in small notes — several writers advise it for the ₩1,000 games. Getting there is the real hurdle without a car.

Weather and crowds

Afternoons can be T-shirt warm, but this is a mountain valley by a stream, and evenings get very cold — bring a proper coat if you are staying for the concert and fireworks. On the 2023 Saturday it poured with rain and was still packed because a popular singer was on. Most writers describe it as crowded, especially on concert nights and the final weekend.

Getting there and access

Cheongsong has no train station. Almost everyone drove — about 1 hour 20 minutes from Daegu, 2 hours 20 from Ulsan — and signs from the Cheongsong IC make it easy to find. There are six free official car parks around the site (both ends of Wolmak Bridge, the county health centre, the culture and welfare centre, the county stadium, and Cheongsong middle/high school — small cars, weekends only). One writer found plenty of space on a weekday; another found it full at 10 am; on weekends people called it a war. Without a car, take an intercity bus from Dong Seoul or Daegu to Cheongsong Bus Terminal, which is in town.

Two writers noted that pushchairs and wheelchairs can be borrowed next to the information booth, and there is a nursing room. Toilets — separate men's and women's, several blocks of them — were kept clean. The site is a flat riverside, but on concert evenings it is packed.

Year by year

Autumn 2023

The 17th, 1–5 November. Saturday's concert drew crowds despite heavy rain. The ₩10,000 apple tasting plate and apple bread were the hits.

Autumn 2024

The 18th, 30 October – 3 November. Pengsoo, the EBS penguin mascot, made an appearance; the apple-lottery and roulette games were popular. One writer found the apple stalls shut early in the evening.

Autumn 2025

The 19th, 29 October – 2 November. The opening concert, fireworks and apple-shaped street lights impressed; that evening was bitterly cold. Fixed prices and generous tasting at the apple stalls were praised.

Tips from people who went

  • On a weekend go early — parking and the popular stalls (apple bread, drumming) are easier in the morning
  • Small cash for the ₩1,000 games
  • For the evening concert, a warm coat and an early spot
  • Taste at several stalls before buying apples; most will ship boxes within Korea
  • Collect seven stamps for a free apple (2025)
  • Apple stalls may close early in the evening
  • Combine it with Juwangsan National Park for a full day
