Kikukawa

우나기 욘다이메 키쿠카와 Unagi Yondaime Kikukawa Unagi yondaime Kikukawa means 'eel, Kikukawa, fourth generation' — the posts explain it as a Japanese eel house carried on by the same family for four generations since 1932.

A Nagoya-style eel-rice (hitsumabushi) restaurant on the 4th floor of Shinsegae Centum City Mall in Haeundae, Busan — the Korean branch of Japan's Kikukawa, which one post says opened in May 2026. Hitsumabushi with a whole eel costs 50,000 won, the two-thirds-eel version 38,000 won, and the pollock-roe version 48,000 won; 17 of the 27 visits ordered the whole-eel bowl. It comes with a card explaining how to eat it plain, with toppings, then as ochazuke with broth. Companions who skip eel often ordered the kaisendon (48,000 won). We read 30 posts from 25 August to 23 October 2026, set aside one about the Osaka branch, and did not count two (including a brand round-up) that record no visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. You can watch the eel being grilled before you go in: twelve posts saw staff cleaning eels and grilling them over charcoal behind the glass at the entrance. One mentions the cook fanning the coals; another warns that the glass gets hot.
  2. Twenty posts say there are private rooms. The count varies: two posts say two rooms (one specifies two six-seat rooms), three say about three. Four posts used a room — two had booked ahead, one walked into an empty room at a weekday lunch, and one booked through Naver for a public-holiday lunch (three adults and a toddler). Two posts say room use is limited to 1 hour 30 minutes.
  3. Instead of water, warm tea is brought to the table — ten posts mention it, some calling it hojicha and others barley tea. One post notes staff warning that it was hot.
  4. Three posts waited and two were seated right away. One registered on a Tabling device at the entrance and waited a short while; another had booked a room but still met a short queue at a public-holiday lunch. Of the two seated at once, one came at 2 p.m. and the other saw the room fill up soon after sitting down. No post says how many minutes the wait was.

  1. Seven posts say it is expensive and none say otherwise — one calls the prices 'wicked', another says it is not a place for a casual meal. A rice bowl runs 38,000–60,000 won, and the one post that had the kabayaki set felt the eel portion was small for the price.
  2. Four posts came with a child and four saw or used a high chair. There is a children's set (one post gives 16,000 won). One post says the gap between hall tables was wide enough to park a compact stroller.

Posts saying you can park2 of 26 posts

Only two posts say from experience that parking was easy. Figures like 'two hours free with a meal' or the tiered '1 hour from 10,000 won … 5 hours from 200,000 won' are copied from mall notices, so we do not rely on them — and the two versions disagree, so check before you go.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 4 (of 26 posts read)

No post says whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair can get in — that means unknown, not absent. It is on the mall's 4th floor; posts mention taking the escalator, but none mention a lift.

No post says whether the toilet is inside the restaurant or whether it is split by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Only one post describes actually arriving by subway — from Centum City station into the Shinsegae side and up to the mall's 4th floor. Lines like 'exit 6, 8 minutes on foot' or '418 m' are copied information.
  • All 20 posts that give hours agree on 11:00–21:00 with last order at 20:30, though nearly all copy it from a listing. Closing days differ: one says 'no closing day', another says it closes on the department store's days off.
  • Ten posts list the phone number as 051-745-1623. Posts say bookings go through Naver or CatchTable and that the kaiseki course needs booking a day ahead, but this is copied information.
  • Two posts disclose sponsorship. Phrases like '90 years of tradition since 1932', 'the 300 g eel is the tastiest size' and '2019 Michelin' recur almost word for word in more than ten posts; they are the house's own claims and we do not count them.
