Jucheong Gwangjang

주청광장 Gwangjang means a public square or plaza; none of the posts explain the 'Jucheong' part.

Compiled from 28 blog posts read in fullSources →

A Korean-style pocha (drinking house) up one flight of stairs in a Millak-dong side street, which posts put one to three minutes' walk from Gwangalli Beach. The walls and stairwell are covered in hand-written jokes in an old-market-tavern style, and people come for drinking food such as deep-fried boiled pork (26,000 won), tofu with kimchi, cheese potato pancake and crab-and-chicken stew, washed down with roasted-grain or strawberry makgeolli (13,000 won). The fried pork was ordered in 14 of the visits, more than any other dish. We read 30 posts from November 2024 to August 2026; 28 describe an actual visit. We dropped one about a different restaurant on the ground floor and did not count one that only pasted the shop's listing.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. 16 posts mention an outdoor terrace dressed up like a street stall, apart from the indoor room. One describes gravel or sand underfoot; winter posts mention a tent cover and old-fashioned electric heaters, and one says the owner brought out blankets. A September 2025 post notes that on a hot day everyone sat inside.
  2. 14 posts say free starters arrive when you sit down — most often a curry-flavoured macaroni salad and pickled onions, with some posts getting spicy fish-cake stir-fry or potato and ham instead.
  3. Five posts say the table water is barley tea rather than plain water; one identified it as oriental raisin-tree tea.
  4. Six posts say the fried pork's coating is crisp — boiled whole belly given a thin fry — and several add that the dried radish and scallion served alongside cut the richness.
4 more
  1. Several posts tell of giving up on queues at other Gwangalli bars and ending up here. Two say they walked straight in without waiting; one regular says there is usually no wait but sometimes on weekends. Nobody records an actual wait time.
  2. Going with friends is the most common (12 posts), followed by couples (3) and one group of seven on a second round. Some posts also mention bar seating for solo drinkers.
  3. 11 posts say the room is larger than it looks from outside; one found the tables far enough apart to keep the noise down, another found more seating at the back.
  4. Three posts describe walking from Gwangan Station on Line 2: take exit 1 and head down toward the beach, about ten minutes on foot.

From the station

Three posts describe walking from Gwangan Station on Line 2: take exit 1 and head down toward the beach, about ten minutes on foot.

Getting inside

Second floor16 of 28 posts
Toilet inside1 of 28 posts
Separate restrooms2 of 28 posts

Getting in means climbing stairs: 16 posts describe walking up to the second floor, and several single the stairs out as hard work, calling them steep and warning to take care after drinking. The stairwell is lined with the same hand-written signs as the room, and several people mention reading them on the way up.

Every post that mentions getting in describes stairs; none mentions a lift, a ramp, or entering with a wheelchair or pushchair. That means nobody wrote about it, not that it is impossible.

Only one post plainly says the toilet is inside; another says it is attached but not quite indoors, and a third places it out by the terrace seating. Two say it is separated by gender. Nobody describes its size or an accessible toilet.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Service is split. Four posts call the staff friendly (one was brought a blanket, another an apron), while a January 2026 post describes being curtly told to wait and to move aside at the till. One more called them neither friendly nor unfriendly.
  • Four posts call it cheap or good value; one says the pancakes vanish fast and are not great value. No post says what a person actually spent per meal; the '20,000-30,000 won per person' figure comes from a listing-style post, not a visit.
  • Six posts found portions generous (fried pork, bean-sprout bulgogi, crab stew); two found the side rice stew or the pancakes on the small side.
  • A 2.5-hour seating limit when the place is full or has a queue appears in two posts, both repeating a house notice or hearsay; nobody reports actually being timed out.
  • The phone number 051-761-2521 is copied in many posts. Only one post says group reservations are taken, with a window-side area a party can have to itself; we do not know the minimum group size.
  • Eighteen visit posts give opening hours, nearly all copied from the listing. The usual version is 5:30 pm to 1:30 am, until 2:30 am on Fridays and Saturdays, last order 1 am. One May 2025 post says 5 pm opening and closed Wednesdays, and one December 2024 post gives 5 pm on Fridays and Saturdays; that Wednesday is the only closing day anyone mentions.
  • Seven posts from December 2024 to March 2025 end with the same twelve hashtags in the same order and repeat the same keyword phrases, which suggests commissioned copy; each still records what was ordered and eaten, so we counted them. Of the 28 visit posts, three disclose sponsorship or free service, six say they paid their own way, and the other 19 say nothing.
