Soup and riceKorean

Janggeumi Jangteo Gukbap

장금이 장터국밥 Janggeum is the royal-kitchen cook of the TV drama Dae Jang Geum, and jangteo gukbap is the beef-and-rice soup of an old market day.

Compiled from 26 blog posts read in fullSources →

Jang-geum-i Jangteo Gukbap is a beef-soup house at 348-1 Gwanganhaebyeon-ro in Suyeong-gu, Busan, near Millak Waterside Park. Beef soup, blood-curd soup and Korean-beef gomtang are 10,000 won; the chili-chive pancake and rice-cake soup are 9,000 won, and in summer there are cold soy-milk and young-radish noodles at 9,000 won. Five or six side dishes arrive with every soup, and posts spent as many words on them as on the soup. It opens at 7 a.m., and many came for breakfast or a hangover meal. We read 28 posts dated January 2025 to July 2026; 27 describe actually eating here (the other is a single line in a list of new openings). None reports a price change over that time.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Side dishes get topped up, sometimes before you ask. Five posts mention refills: one describes staff who noticed empty dishes and refilled them before being called, another a foreign part-timer who came over as the dishes ran low, and a third got a new dish (sweet-potato stems) on the refill. Kimchi, fish-cake and mushroom side dishes recur; several posts say the rest changes daily.
  2. Eight posts call the portions large: one left more than half the rice, another noted the tall rice bowl, and a third said the 9,000-won pancake was too big to finish.
  3. Five posts found phone chargers at the tables, set out with salt, pepper and a bottle opener; one said only some tables have the cable.
  4. Eight posts mention high chairs. One family with a toddler said the owner fried an egg for the baby, and two families shredded the gomtang beef for their children.

Parking

Posts saying you can park9 of 26 posts

There is room for a few cars out front. Nine posts say you can park there; of the seven that gave a number, three said one or two cars, two said two, one said one and one said two or three. Two posts point to the Suyeon children's-park public lot if it's full, and one parked in the public lot behind the building. The copied 'no dedicated lot' line in some post headers was not counted.

Getting inside

Second floor8 of 26 posts
In a basementyes 0 · no 2 (of 26 posts read)
Toilet inside1 of 26 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 26 posts

It is a two-storey building and the soup is served on the ground floor. Eight posts mention the upper floor, which was being readied as a Korean buffet: a July 2025 post said it would open soon and noted an outdoor terrace up there, and a December 2025 post said it still hadn't opened. Nobody ate upstairs.

Two posts place the restaurant on the ground floor and none mention a basement; nobody said whether the upper floor is reached by stairs or a lift.

Nobody described the entrance step or arriving with a wheelchair or stroller; the 'wheelchair-accessible entrance' line in one post is copied listing data.

One August 2025 post says the restroom is inside, to the right of the noodle room, and is split by gender. Other posts' 'separate restrooms' lines were copied listing data and not counted.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • One post disagrees about the blood curd: eight found no off smell, but a neighbour said it smelled too strong to eat on her first visit, and her companions that day were split.
  • Serving speed is mixed: one post found it slow at an empty late lunch, two said the food came quickly.
  • No post mentions waiting. Many went early in the morning or after lunch, some to an empty room. That doesn't mean there's no line at the lunch peak — nobody wrote about it.
  • No post explains how to get there by subway or bus; people walked over from Gwangalli beach or the waterside park, or drove.
  • No post made a reservation; 'reservations accepted' appears only in one post's copied listing. Seven posts give the same phone number, 051-757-2551.
  • Nineteen posts give opening hours of 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and fourteen a last order at 8:30 p.m., but all of it is copied listing data; one post added 'from 8:00' and advised checking on site. No post mentions a closing day.
  • Posts cluster in July–September 2025, and several end with word-for-word identical hashtag strings. One says it was a sponsored tasting, one is tagged as sponsored, one says the writer paid; the rest say nothing. The look-alike posts without prices are mostly taste description, and we counted little from them.
