현풍닭칼국수 부산대점 A branch of a Daegu-born chain serving chicken-and-perilla kalguksu by the gates of Pusan National University
Data as of · Published ·
Hyunpung Dak Kalguksu Busandae is a chicken-noodle house on the main road outside the front gate of Pusan National University, five minutes' walk from exit 1 of the subway station. It is a branch of a chain that began in Hyunpung, outside Daegu, and what it sells is one bowl: chicken broth thickened with ground perilla seed, with hand-cut wheat noodles in it. The plain bowl is ₩8,500; the ginseng version, with half a chicken in it whole, is ₩11,000; any bowl becomes a set with a plate of boiled pork for ₩8,000 more. Two tubs of kimchi stand at the self-serve counter, one hot and one not — and more of these writers talk about that kimchi than about the noodles. You order from a tablet at your own table, and people eating alone are a commonplace here. Closed the third Thursday of each month, with an hour shut from four in the afternoon. The posts we read run from November 2024 to September 2026.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart
- The kimchi is what these posts are about. Two tubs at the self-serve counter, one hot and one mild, and you help yourself to as much as you want. The hot one is not a token heat — two writers liken it to a fiery instant noodle, one puts it above that and tells people who cannot eat chilli to stay away from it, one warns first-timers outright. What arrives at the table unasked is the hot kind, by two accounts, so fetch the mild tub or say something when you sit down. Those who do eat chilli went back for thirds (two of them). Green chillies come if you ask; one writer bit into one and left the rest.
- Thirteen posts say the portions are large and none says otherwise. The ginseng bowl comes with glutinous rice already in it — three writers point out you need not order any. One says a grown man could not finish his; another thinks a small eater would struggle with a single bowl. On the drumstick: one gave up on chopsticks and took it in her hands, another says it is twice the size of a fried-chicken leg. The writer who ordered the large size says it fed two.
- Nobody calls it expensive. All eight posts that discuss price say the opposite, usually with the university in the same sentence — full for under ten thousand won, best value around here. Nothing has gone up in the year we can see: the plain bowl is ₩8,500 in September 2025 and ₩8,500 in March 2026; the ginseng bowl holds at ₩11,000 throughout. One item splits — three posts put the spicy bowl at ₩9,000 and one at ₩8,500. All the priced posts fall between September 2025 and March 2026, so we cannot say these are today's prices.
- You order without getting up — eleven posts describe a tablet or kiosk at the table. One notes that tables without a screen have a call button instead. One says you pay when you order and simply leave afterwards; another remembers paying at the end. Two prefer the paper menu that also sits on each table, finding the screen harder to take in at a glance. A receipt review on Naver earns a plate of dumplings or a soft drink — twelve posts mention it, excluding weekends and the midsummer chicken days. Four note a separate offer for students of the university's business school.
- Thirteen call it roomy; one says it is not especially big. One writer counted about twelve tables including the ones tucked in beside the counter; another describes three separate areas. Eating alone comes up a lot — three mention seating set aside for it, one a bar counter facing the window. Two say there were many solo diners, and one of those two was eating alone herself. It does fill: one writer watched the room go from spare to full after she sat down, another saw groups arrive as the evening came on.
- It is a chain — five posts say so, and a near-identical sentence listing the cities turns up in several. The interesting part is that two writers insist the branches do not taste the same. One had eaten at three other branches and says this one is the best; the other says the same in fewer words. Both are people who chose this branch, so we have no account from anyone who preferred a different one.
- Ten posts say the kimchi is made fresh every day. The wording barely varies, and two mention a notice on the wall saying so, which is most likely where all ten got it. We have not checked it; we count only that ten people wrote it. Much else in these posts comes off the same walls — noodles mixed and cold-proofed on site, broth simmered twelve hours daily, salt kept below that of an instant noodle. Four writers did see the dough resting in a glass-fronted fridge beside the self-serve counter, so that much someone has looked at.

Parking

| Posts saying you can park | 1 of 25 posts |

Fourteen posts discuss parking and exactly one writer parked. The fourteen repeat one sentence: a paid lot about a hundred metres down the road, an hour free with an order over ₩20,000, one ticket per table. That is the shop's own notice, not anybody's experience. The one who did park says the lot is a block away, has plenty of room, and was no trouble. One post disagrees with the rest — a disclosed-sponsorship piece says flatly that there is no parking and sends you to a public lot by the university. The restaurant plainly has no lot of its own, so the two may not be in conflict at all, but we could not settle it. One writer notes you ask for the ticket when you pay.

Getting there

Getting inside
Nobody mentions the floor. The registered address ends in '1F' and the check-in widget prints it, so the characters appear in most of the twenty-six posts — but not one writer says anything about stairs, or about which floor they were on, in their own words. Two describe a main-road frontage with the room visible through the window, which suggests you walk straight in off the street. That is as far as we can go.
Nobody writes about a step at the door or a ramp. The words wheelchair, pushchair, ramp and threshold do not appear once in twenty-six posts. Two describe the entrance, but only what it looks like — a tidy front, the room visible through the glass, the hours and menu posted outside — never whether there is a lip to get over. This is not 'there is none'; it is 'no one looked'. It is a ground-floor unit on a main road and thirteen writers call the room roomy, but we will not infer a flat threshold from that. High chairs (three writers) and children's cutlery (two) are things people did see.
Nobody has looked at the toilet. Across twenty-six posts, not one says where it is, whether it is inside the restaurant, or what state it is in. Two posts do contain the words separate men's and women's — but in both cases inside a single line lifted wholesale from the Naver listing, alongside group bookings, wi-fi, takeaway, high chairs, delivery and parking. Copying is not looking, so we have not counted it. It may well be separate. Where it is, and what it is like, we do not know.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 26 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- It is an easy place to reach by subway — though one sentence is repeated twelve times. Twelve posts give five minutes from exit 1 at Pusan National University station, and only a few describe the walk in their own words. One says to take the lane directly outside exit 1, follow it to the end and cross at the lights; another puts it at three minutes from either exit 1 or exit 3 and notes a bus stop directly across the road. The clearest landmark is a building — two writers say it is straight across from the Burger King, and one notes that waiting at the crossing puts the sign right in front of you. Estimates of the walk run from three minutes to seven.
- Not one writer reports queuing. One arrived at six in the evening and found three tables occupied; another walked in to an empty room. Two did watch it fill — one saw the place go to full after she sat down, another saw students and groups arrive as evening came. Filling up and waiting outside are not the same thing, and nobody describes the second. One writer recommends it for a lunch hour you have to be back from, and three say the food came quickly. But almost none of the twenty-six went at the peak of lunch or on one of the midsummer chicken days, so we cannot say what it is like when it is busy.
- Three posts disclose a sponsorship. Two say nothing in the body and put a single tag — #sponsored — at the very end of the hashtag block; the third states plainly at the foot that the food was provided free. One writer declares she paid her own way. The remaining twenty-two say nothing either way. One more thing worth knowing: one of the disclosed posts carries a banner from a blog-advertising platform at the bottom — and a post that discloses nothing carries the same kind of link from the same platform at the top. With no word of sponsorship in it we have left that one as undisclosed, but we could not establish what the link is.
- The opening hours differ from post to post, and nearly all of them are copied. Twenty-one give hours; almost none reads like something the writer checked at the door, and most sit in a header block. Eleven say it closes at nine in the evening; nine say eleven. Four of the nine split the week — eleven on weekdays, nine at weekends — while one splits it the other way round, nine from Monday to Saturday and eleven on Sunday. The eleven-o'clock posts cluster in March 2026; the nine-o'clock ones are spread evenly from September 2025 to September 2026. Opening is eleven in the morning except in two posts, which say half past ten. If you are going late, ring first (0507-1378-6013). Two things do not vary: nineteen posts put the afternoon break at four to five, and fifteen give the closing day as the third Thursday of the month — one day a month, not every Thursday.
